Instead of being a total 100% healslut like Mercy, he throws out a weaker passive heal to someone and then can throw a 50% defense reduction onto one enemy at a time, and can be attacking while doing all of this. So you trade raw healing potential for having a debuffer/another damage dealer on the team. With good teammates/teamwork, it's very effective. But bad players like OP need a Mercy to hold their hand the entire match and resurrect them when they run into a group of 6 enemies alone and complain about everyone else being bad.

I'm the other way. I love playing as Zenyatta, but if anyone else switches to another healer, I'll switch off. Sometimes if it's a mercy, and the team loadout seems good for it, I'll stick to him, but not often. He's fine my himself. Most people just don't treat him like the backline healer that he is.
It also makes a big difference what map, and what we're going up against though. Sometimes Zenyatta is just a bad choice.

Playing Rein can be frustrating at times though.
You're helpless without your team making good use of your shield but they never really try to push with you so you usually end up being the initiator which isn't necessarily a good thing.
Rein with a good team is a blast, you can your tank job perfectly and disrupt with a charge once it's safe enough for your allies.
With a bad team, it's just hell, that soldier isn't even shooting at that basion/torb turret eating your shield, junkrat/mcree are so close and unthreaten he can lob mines over your shield and every nigger can just come and punch you. At that point I just switch to Zarya.

While true, the range on his heals are insane and the orbs will stay on the person as long as they are within that range or stay within LOS of Zen, same goes with the debuff. If they break LOS the orb stays on them for three seconds before it's automatically removed. Mercy has to actually be relatively near the target to heal them, granted, Mercy heals faster (50hp/s as opposed to Zen's 30hp/s). I more or less play Zen as a healing sniper.

Telling someone they are going to have a hard time playing Zen into double Winston or against Tracer+Widow+Genji does not make me an asshole, it makes me the only person in the conversation with common sense.
Zen is fragile beyond belief and requires not only the person playing him to be exceptionally good (which most are not) but it also requires the team comp to be able to support him, generally Reinhardt is a must have. It's in no way enjoyable for someone on my team to pick Zen as the solo support and then for us to lose the game because of it, it's also not fun for someone to pick Zen and then force someone else to switch off their hero to Mercy to cover for him. I have heroes I want to play but I don't go out and pick them just for the hell of it while totally disregarding all semblance of team balance, situational strategy, or common sense. I'm not going to purposefully bring my team down so I can be a total dunce and play my special snowflake hero waifu/husbando.

Sure Zen can win games but as it is quite obvious he isn't as durable or useful as the other supports, he cannot solo heal and he dies to anything that sneezes on him. If you try to play a game without another support paired up with him it means you are more often than not going to get steamrolled by the opposing team. Picking Zen means that someone else on your team HAS to switch to another support or you are pretty much going to lose that game unless the enemy team is just flat out awful. I'm not sure about you but I'm not playing this game so that I can sit back and get rolled every game because teammates refuse to pick intelligently, I'm not a babysitter and I'm not here to waste time so children can get their giggles off.
I want to play the game and enjoy close competitive rounds where I can feel the joy of winning and use losses as learning experiences, I am not here to pick up your slack.

It's kinda tiny, at long range the LMB is your obvious choice, you will fire three shurikens continuously for a short second in which you can move your aim individually for each of those shurikens. So learn to move your aim to follow moving targets. You always want to aim a little ahead of where they're about to move because the shurikens are slow.
Go for bodyshots if you're not confident, but three shurikens to the head is almost 170 damage so that's obviously great.
At close range use RMB since it's faster, and every shurikens comes out at once so it's perfect for cancelling the animation into a melee attack for an additional 20 damage. Also be aware that the swift strike will cancel all of his actions, so try to not use deflect without a swift strike ready. If you use a deflect at a bad time you can at least then swift strike behind your opponent and try to RMB them in the back. Or just get out of there if needed. Cancelling is also perfect for maximizing your damage output, especially during the ult since the strikes can be a bit slow and leave you vulnerable. Also if you sneak behind an opponent standing still, like a sniping widowmaker, aim at head, press LMB and immediately swift strike into her. You will probably land the swift strike at the same time as the shurikens hit her head resulting in instakill.
And never use deflect without baiting first. Most people will want to bait YOU into using your deflect on nothing. Shoot shurikens, forcing them to retaliate then reflect. Use a group of enemies targeting you to your advantage, 4 people shooting at you means you deflect a shitton of damage, so direct that at one of them to probably kill them outright.

Zenyatta can use his orbs while healing since it's a tag instead of tether that he has to physically maintain (only stipulation is that they stay within line of sight). Combined with his orbs he can do a shitload of damage. His only real negative points are low HP and slow movement speed.

If Zenyatta is the only support then I'll usually just pick whatever I want, but if it seems like we won't be able to win after I die one or two times I will switch and play 2nd support. No reason to play support if I don't need to, especially in solo queue.

Is it me or the standard healing in Overwatch feels infinitely weaker for it's TF2 counterpart. I mean Lucio and Zenyatta both have other decent skills but non of them provide enough healing to matter. Then there is a mercy, who can't overheal, meaning that squishes will die under enemy fire as fast as before anyway, and who's ult is the single, most boring shit you could have ever came up with. When I pop an UberCharge I feel like a god, pushing through enemy's most dense defences or saving everyone from an ambush. When I ult as mercy I revive 2 tards who die anyway since they are stunned for few seconds and I feel nothing, and in general mercy is boring a fuck and this comes from TF2 medick main. The only think that came close was Zenyatta's ult, but still not as good.

I don't mind the idea of turrets, but when you can turn a corner and die in half a second, there's a problem. If Symmetra's turrets did incredibly low damage, were a little harder to kill but mainly just slowed you, that would be... annoying, but fine.

I'd say the Mercy is in the wrong there. If she's not ready to use Guardian Angel and you jump away, she's basically stranded. For a Winston, you have to trust them to be able to jump and shield to relative safety and only heal if it's clear he's going to die. And even then, only do it if you're not going to die in the process too.
Although honestly it becomes much less of an issue if you had voice chat or something. Guardian Angel refreshes very quickly, so it's really just a case of the Mercy being caught unaware and not clicking Shift in time. Give her a heads up so she can prepare and it's totally fine.
Mercy and Winston isn't a bad idea though. Mercy's damage boost makes Winston's lightning gun a force to be reckoned with, especially since it goes through Reinhardt's shields and Genji's deflects.

Zenyatta is one of those kill or be killed characters. I remember back in the beta I captured the first point on Hanamura all by myself as Zenyatta by rapid firing Discord Orb and mowing 3 of the enemy team down.
I have never played as good as Zenyatta ever since the game went live and I'm likely to just get shot and die in 5 seconds.

Discord is easily the best thing about him, make tracers die in 2 seconds and make tanks like paper
His ult could be improved by increasing the AoE
But I find him top tier now and don't really think he needs a change but he will always be one of the least picks due to squishy he is and how he actually requires aiming

Zen is good in a team that can heal itself. If you're rolling with a Mei, Tracer, Soldier 76, Roadhog, etc, don't be afraid to go Zen. The team would be better for that.

I tend to die before killing them though. Zenny shoots slowly after all and his attacks have less spray so they're easier to dodge. All a Tracer or Genji have to do is move fast and shoot you while you're turning around. And Genji's stab dash will probably kill you or come close anyway.
Personally I use Zenny to fight tanks, and even then only if that tank is pre-occupied with someone and won't return fire immediately.
