ITT: Games that came and fucking went
>hey guys, you know how some muliplayer games give you one life and have you trying to eliminate other team?
Yeah, like gears of war 1 or tf2's arena mode?
>you know how it can be really annoying to wonder around the map in circles looking for the last guy?
Yes, that's usually why they have objectives that open up.
>what if we made a game that was ENTIRELY that annoying part?
>knew at least 5 people that dropped $70 day one on this game.
I even fucking warned then that they won't get their money back.
Then they go and buy some other flavour of the month. And then next gen came and they dropped half a grand on the consoles.
Seriously, video games are a cancer.
battleborn
>>342196765
Thought the world and graphics looked pretty alright.
Regardless of how much of a shitfest it turned into open beta was fun as fuck
Bioshock Infinite
Had a lot of fun in alpha and beta, mostly played as the Kraken and raping hunters over and over again.
Since blunderborn is already posted.
This came and went, came again and died a slow, painfull death
>>342197710
>friend buys both a ps4 and an xbox one
>doesn't own any exclusives, only games that are avaliable on both platforms
hmm
Even it's release was irrelevant after a few seconds.
>>342198626
This one makes me sad.
>>342198676
>Group of guys all live together
>They all buy their own console, and their own copy of a game and their own television set
>Instead of Sharing a screen they play in local games in their own rooms playing the same multiplayer game.
nexiuz
though it never really came
>>342198758
I had fun famalam
>>342196765
>Friend blows this games dick
>LOL ITS DIFFERENT XD
>Literally just a side mode in other games turned into a fucking main game with no side modes other then itself
>Almost no content on release
>Over price the fuck out of release content.
Its also one of the most boring games in existence. One person playing cat and mouse and the others trying to kill it before it levels up so it can effectively come back and rofl stomp people as they flail around it trying to kill it with 100x the effort back.
>>342199040
Lies, you dont even remember it
>>342198941
Is this game out?
>>342198758
I was hyped but I just wasn't in the mood for that style of games any more.
Overhead pixel combat? No thanks.
The setting looked cool but then I realised I just wanted to watch Evangelion, so I did and never played it
It was fun but trying to make 5 gamemodes out of hunt didn't work and the fact that the maps just turned into chasy rather than actually using any of the wildlife or areas to your advantage was shit.
it it released for like 20 bucks it would probably have been a decent success.
>>342198418
That's kind of how all story based shooters go though. You play it a few times, then move on
>>342199068
Fucking this
The retards that paid 60-70 dollars probably only played for 3 hours before dropping it completely.
>>342198941
is this game out yet? Haven't heard much about it.
>>342199140
Came out a couple of weeks ago.
>>342198976
I lived with a friend for awhile and we had 2 tvs set up right beside eachother, with our own consoles and games. We didn't play multiplayer games, but it was fun
>>342199126
This was a happy release to me.
It was like watching Anthony Burch swallow cyanide. Gearbox studios is dying and I couldn't be happier
>>342199026
>That fucking terrible netcode
>Literally only two weapons worth using
>Point blank rocket doesn't even do much damage well 2 splash damage grenades kill base life.
>Only fun was with the fucking modifiers
Fuck man i was hyped for that game and then it comes out and a game can barely start and finish.
>>342199415
honestly im already bored with it
I don't want more heroes, I want better balancing and map updates
>>342199415
God i hope so. The only reason it even has a lasting presence on /v/ is because of all the porn and autistic waifu faggots.
I had fun with Evolve. It's a shitload of fun if you play it with friends that know what they're doing.
>>342199415
>all those 9s and 10s

>>342199126
>people praise the humor of the game
>it's all patented Gearbox "swearing is funny rite guiz" humor
>>342199640
Its just not that great. Its gunplay isn't very fluid , its balance is okay at best and usually you see the same top tier team comps , and aside from maps sucking too their isn't much depth to most characters.
Its one of the most mediocre games i've seen people rave about. It combines the two things casuals eat up nowadays team based yatta yatta and easy to master low skill ceiling gameplay.
>>342196765
As shit as this game turned out to be (I played the beta and it was god awful), you gotta admit that first trailer was hype as fuck.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1HTGJcvTUk
Uncharted 4
>>342199126
Is the 'comedy' of the game even up to par? Because I could have sworn that one line in the game was
>Attention all units! Feminism is awesome!
And that worries me.
>>342199140
>>342199287
>>342198941
It's out and it's bland as fuck. They don't even care anymore. The game should've never happened because it has nothing of the original. Even the soundtrack, despite being made by Solar Fields, is in fact pretty shit.
>>342197710
wait a minute
when the fuck did Evolve come out and next gen come out for that sequence of events to be possible
>>342199126
I wonder how many of the developers cry themselves to sleep each night
>>342199497
Really a lot of the maps just have so much underutilized space. All of the China stages have so much shit in the background that there is no point in going to.
>>342199415
This is the sort of game that's fun as a beta and when you only play it for limited time because it's more like shock and awe type of fun but quickly wears off.
>>342198174
I think Evolve at least managed to build up hype and trick people into buying it for a while.
Battleborn released with nothing but the whisper of gas escaping from a bloated decomposing pile of garbage.
>>342200568
I miss battlefront 2
>>342200568
Literally a testing ground for BF1.
>>342198418
Idk senpai no Bioshock experience will ever come close to Bioshock 1, I don't even know why I didn't like Infinite so much. It had all the things that made 1 great, it maybe was the fact that I played and beaten it on the hard mode (not the 1999 mode) first try and just didn't feel the need to play it ever again
>>342199126
This is the big fish, king kahuna.
Out there surfing waves. Brah its just like. Dude you get the best barrels ever dude. You just like, pull in... and you just get spit right out of em. You just drop in and just smack the lip. WUHPOW! Drop down. And say BWUUAARRGGHH. Then after that, you just drop in. You just ride the barrell and get pitted, soooo pitted.
>>342200332
>Even the soundtrack, despite being made by Solar Fields, is in fact pretty shit.
what a bummer
>>342200916
Honestly, as much as I knew that the game itself will be trash, I was hoping that at least the soundtrack will save it. I could literally listen to it on it's own but it appears that it's not even gonna be released separately. The chvrches song is shit compared to lisa miskowsky
>>342199206
Add a 0 to that 20 and you got yourself a deal! Because as we know, if you don't sell your half assed video game for 200+ dollars you can't put food on the table... I honestly feel bad for the poor souls that bought into this game

>>342200653
>that metaphor
delightful
>>342198316
it's still fun as shit anon
unfortunately it's dead as fuck and you almost need to premade to win or find a game
I bought it on sale for $40 and it is def worth that, not 100 though, they fucked up good trying to be ultrakikes
>>342199415
haven't played it since the first week it came out
I would still be playing Evolve if it wasnt dead on console. I mained trapper and played the game for around 500 hours.
>>342200107
The character who has that line says it when he kills a class that's a girl. I don't think it's meant as an endorsement or anything.
>>342199415
>tfw played it for 3 months FOR FREE
I had my fun, but I played it enough
Can't believe there are people who bought it
>>342200107
It's only said if the guy kills a female character. Saying that this is what feminism pretty much is, equal on the battlefield or some shit.
Either way it doesn't excuse the shit game that it is with all that horrible gearbox writing.
>>342196765
what's REALLY funny is Dead by daylight is their entire gimmick but actually successful viewership wise on Twitch.
>>342201958
tfw never got in the beta
tfw had to leave the weekend of the open beta weekend
>>342202393
Did they fix toolbox squads yet.
Every ubisoft game
>>342198758
Still hugely popular among indie game fans.
Every Denuvo game ever released.
Not even joking.
>>342203271
Total War: Warhammer is a massive success.
>>342202393
Dead by daylight works because of the feeling of hunting the prey, and fleeing the monster. Evolve tried to have both players hunt the prey, but that failed when you give hunter and the monster a way to fight back.
>>342203271
And yet people are still crying about MGSV
>>342200107
>>342201763
>>342201976
That's pretty edgy by gearbox standards.
>>342200486
Never has a game had every feature sound so cool and yet be so horribly executed in every possible way.
Usually it's just one or two aspects of a game that brings it down, but this game fucked up literally single thing.
>>342202393
>Left4Dead
>Primal Carnage
>Depth
>Evolve
>Dead By Daylight
All pretty much the same game. Basically turned Juggernaut gametypes from FPS and made it into its own game. Some are team based, with a team of Humans vs a team of monsters, or a team of Humans vs a single monster.
Same shit.
it was FUN
>>342203406
L4D is fairly different but the rest blob together.
L4D only vaguely inspires the rest, the goals of the gameplay are fairly different.
>>342203396
I'm still mad I wasted a disc to burn it to for my 360.
>>342203374
being shit.
Denuvo became the seal of mediocre AAA titles.
>>342203634
MGSV wasn't shit because of Denuvo.
>>342203697
Denuvo is a certain indication of a game being shit though.
>>342203271
Actually piracy gave games more publicity and recognition.
>>342203374
Notice how denuvo was actually cracked for this game. Pirates played it so the game gets more recognition and more people are mad.
Far Cry Primal
>>342200910
It lacked the thrill of the first two: being unable to scape an underwater world with the remains of a mad society.
Bioshock infinite was like Disney's version, princes and all. No one is insane, you are just followed by random police men and any mystery that the first could have was dumbed down to a pseudo intelectual "lel, alternate universes" plot.
It was a great shooter, I really enjoyed it. But it was very lacking for a bioshock entry and should have been an entire new ip instead.
>>342204176
That's a good one. Not even my friend, who's a huge Far Cry fan, talked about it
>>342202401
Its fun but nowhere worth the price, specially since all the cosmetics are behind a paywall... in a fucking 60 dollar multiplayer game

For a game thats focused on the campaign and single player gameplay, its the first game I would say that definitely beneits from denuvo (dev wise of course)

Yes, still has a large player base. Just not talked about much here because there is nothing to talk about.
>>342196765
I feel like shit admitting this but I fell for the hype. I thought it was going to have more maps and game modes but nope.
I also felt the same way with Titanfall. These games have so much potential.
>>342197710
i only buy games that are at least 35% off and are recommended by /v/.

>>342205286
Titanfall was a game with great potential. It should have been more focused on mechsinb4 >titanfall >mechs :^), had no AI, and had larger maps capable of supporting at least 12v12.
>>342205335
I was going to post Nosgoth but I feel like posting cancelled games is cheating
>>342205303
when people use the "Voted best MMO" line.
It should read:
"Convinced most users to brigade a yearly poll hosted on a dying, irreverent, SJW hellhole."
It's as relevant as the game faqs poll and Undertale.

It's okay.

They have been there since launch.
They are "kind" enough to give you a loot box with 4 things that may be graffitis, voice lines, after-game poses, play of the game and, if you are lucky, a skin.
The chances that you can get the skin you want from this shit system are null since there are a lot of recolors and you can get the SAME fucking one twice. The best ones (legedaries), of course, are more expensice and harder to get in loot boxes.
Fuck this game, really.
>>342197710
>Worrying over $70 and half a grand

>>342204903
I'd have to disagree. Take away the WAD scene from the pre-reboot Doom games and you lose so fucking much.
>>342205286
If this came out on Steam with mods n shit nobody would shut up about it.
>>342205335
I really miss this game, it was fun as fuck and most of the people were just dc fans so the community was heart warming and hardly full of autistic tryhards like the rest of the mobas
Too bad the devs fucked up the management of the games so bad after launch.

With very good reason.

Nah, one of the most popular games on steam atm

I heard videogames with female protagonists dont get as large marketing budgets as male ones, so probably that.
Oh and it's a "7".
>>342199415

Face it, it is fun, especially with friends.
>>342205528
man i completely fucking forgot about this game after archeage came out, that game was actually pretty good especially pvp

>>342206016
Holy fuck this, as far as /v/ goes. I was keeping it in my periphery until that drama with the beta price tiers happened. And the threads slammed their brakes hard a few days into the beta

every fucking "microsoft exclusive"
>>342206050
The only reason AC4 didnt flop was because being a pirate looked fun as fuck, but after the massive let down AC3 was pretty much everyone stop giving a fuck about the franchise.
>>342206308
Is this the game that released the character creator before it came out? People really seemed exited about it. Its kind of sad how dead the genre is.
>>342206735
TES is on steam and it flopped because they failed to see what made skyrim good and they tought it would be easy to just mash multiplayer in it, that and mmos are dead.
Battlefront failed because its the worst multiplayer shooter to come out in like a decade.
Mirrors edge might be more popular but all the bad critics its receiving is making people look away from it.
Titanfall and destiny would be great hits if they came to steam. Overwatch is actually succesful.
Titanfall 2 looks good but since EA are massive jews and hate giving money to Gaben they will probably keep it origin exclusive even if it hurts their games longetivity and popularity.
>>342207430
Is there even any reason to own an xbox one? like does it actually have any exclusives left at all?
>>342206308
Oh, it died?
>>342207430
Very few games that severly limit their audience came and stayed.
Denuvo, no steam, no multiplat = 95% of the potential audience will never play it and thus wont talk about it on forums.
One good way to have people keep talking about your game even if they didnt play is push progressive agenda so people will at least shit on it, uc4, mafia3 and suchlike.
>>342207430
>tfw halo wars 2 and gears 4 are dead on arrival because of the fucking windows store BS
>>342206730
It's called planned obsolescence. EA doesn't want modders making free new content, they want all the marks to buy the same game twice for scummy money.
So the "idea" of Titanfall is forever sealed behind a $60 a year paywall. Oh also don't expect the second game to have any of the maps from the first one even though there's no reason not to from a consumer/design standpoint lol :^).
>>342207415
They deserve it for pandering to people who dont play games.
>>342207679
Now that 90% of their exclusives are coming to windows 10, not at all.
>>342206983

>they failed to see what made skyrim good
as do I
>>342207946
If a company goes the Denuvo route they also go "modding never ever" route.
>>342207946
Titanfall was on sale for as low as $3 many times and all the DLC was made free. All the dlc for 2 is going to be free from the get-go as well. Also the first one is over 2 years old now so it's hardly a $60 yearly fee
>>342205559
Nosgoth was pretty fucking fun from what I played, but it ran like sweaty ass on my computer even on lowest settings for some reason. Also had major balancing issues. Still sad to see it go, Id have loved to watch it grow and develop a little more.
>>342207951
I'm not even opposed to the idea of buying an xbox, but with scalebound and any other game i want, except sunset overdrive, coming to pc, I seriously can't think of a single reason to buy one
>>342208046
And yet Total War: Warhammer has both Denuvo and steam workshop support.
>>342207963
Before mods banned the topic most threads relating to uc4 was about invincible god niggress beating white guys without a scratch.
Prime example of marketing gone wrong.
>>342207964
Mods and visually pleasing open world. After the release of skyrim everything is trying to be open world, even zelda.
And the reason its still played a lot to this day is because its basically a modding sandbox at this point were you can just add almost anything you can think of.
Its interesting how a game with a gameplay and story so mediocre became a game changer in the industry.
>>342199415

Same. I mean I recognize that its hypocritical to refuse use Origin when I have like 300 games on Steam, but I can't be arsed to use them both when Origin just has mediocre games that Im not THAT keen on acquiring.

Evolve is the bastard son of Left 4 Dead's Versus mode. If people are complaining about Evolve, then it's their fault, when there's games before it that could've gave them a taste of things to come. Left 4 Dead's Versus mode is a unbalanced mess. So it shouldn't be a shock that Evolve is the same way.
>>342205056
I'll be honest about this. The first run of this game was great fun, I played with a friend and I was a robot that charged my enemies and beat the shit out of the aliens with my Robo-fists. Much fun was had first play-through, but there was zero re-playability. Endgame is atrocious, all bosses are bullet sponges. Last game I ever bought Day One. Then came the DLC info and announcements, absolute cancer. gaming industry is dead.

>The first run of this game was great fun
Which is all you should have done really. Grinding for bullshit isn't fun in any game.
>>342205528

Its not hypocritical, EA deserves it for refusing to sell their games out of origin just because they refuse to share sheckels with any other digital platform. I mean, they tried to work around paying the fees to valve and created origin when they were busted and penalized for it.
And I will never forget how they used their fucking "store" to scan all your computer and use it as a bot to spam pro EA shit.

Yeah, I enjoyed all of the Resident Evil games up until 6. I only really enjoyed RE5 because I played through co-op the whole time, and game is built from the ground up to be a co-op action shooter experience... Which STILL couldn't save RE6.
Although I fear I might be "missing the forest for the trees", so to speak, because the real issue is that Capcom thought that Resident Evil should be a co-op action franchise instead of a horror franchise, and based their game 'atmosphere' on the Milla Jovovich movies.
At least they're getting back to something atmospheric and disturbing again with the RE7 demo. If Konami's not going to make Silent Hills, someone should. Also, I never touched Operation Raccoon City because god dammit, I knew better.

I don't know if you realize this, anon, but feature bloat is a project-killer. SC is using these resources to create the largest feature bloat experiment in history. They can keep it going until the money runs out, but it's guaranteed to be a buggy, half-finished mess when they finally take a squat and dump it onto the market.
>>342199497
Yeah, too many map sections with only one way to the objective. Hanamura on offense is a nightmare.
>>342216818
feature bloat in most games, over runs a budget... however they have something around 120 million dollars to throw at any issue, feature creep may have fucked double fine games, but star citizen has the money to deal with it.
>>342216132
>People say piracy is killing pc games

Not a chance. They're going to burn through that money, constantly adding absurdly complex new features, and at the end they'll have failed to work out the bugs, balance anything, or give any of their features sufficient depth to be engaging. It's 100% guaranteed no matter how much money they have - they're trying to create a space game that has everything in the universe. Anyone looking at it objectively would tell you it's doomed.

How can a game get so much praise before E3 and during BETA but then get instantly shit on on release? This is why reviewers and Youtubers are scumbags
(example, Hutch and Seananners talking great about MW3 when they played it and then shitting on it shortly after release)
>>342205056
Only reason I have the game is so I could get the albino PS4. This was before it was announced you could buy the white version individually.
Was super dissapointed because my housemate want to play co-op with me. She ended up playing further into the game than I did, but didn't find it as fun without a couch buddy
>>342221367
Who are you quoting
>>342213252
It's a harvest moon game. It's very niche especially for today.
>>342204349
>No modding
That's probably why it's not that talked about
Fuck you nu-id and bethesda. Doom needs mods.
>>342214720
I think it's more the fact that Risen 2 was so horribad. The game is better than R2, actually.
>>342227162
Because PR people will do and say anything to get a famous person to praise their product, including payment through money or gifts, offering special exclusive access to their shit, throw lavish parties at big venues, dumping alcohol down people's throats then making them give a review, throwing hot girls at them, etc.
Sometimes the hype is too much for people and they just can't contain themselves so it skews their perspectives.
>>342227162
Because they got paid
Pic related. And I really liked the game, but I can't even remember if they tried to advertise it.
>>342227508
>battlefield series was built on mods
>hasn't had them for 10 years because of shitty frostbite and EA shit
Fuck this shit.
>>342201096
I think Solar Fields said it's coming later.
I'll never forget those comments on steam
>WHO BOUGHT THE MONSTER RACE EDITION XDDDD
>I DID!!
>DIS GUNNA BE AWSUM :)))
>>342226995
Alien Isolation managed to get released earlier and it completely cucked them over.
That game is pretty much everything Routine wanted to be, except it's also done by a professional studio and on a decent budget.
If they release Routine now, it'll get called a cheap copy.
Also, SOMA is similar too, and it's also already available.

Shame they pulled the plug.
>>342204349
It received a lot of praise, but in the end it's just a single player game that you eventually get tired of
I don't think it's a failure

And because Anita Sarkeeeeesjewburg was a consultant on it and the mongoloided the girls face
>>342209521
How poor are you? Genuinely curious
>>342228104
I don't understand why the girl in this game gets so much praise for her ass. It is literally Lightning tier. Is it simply because of how it animates? She is like half black but has the whitest ass in all of gaming.

Amnesia: Machine for Pigs
Despite being Amnesia 2, the game was completely forgotten about within a month. Amnesia still gets talked about every now and then. SOMA still gets talked about every now and then. Machine for Pigs? Forgotten entirely.

Why would we do that? We've never made money a complex game before. We just shit out casual garbage and make money by showing only flashy cinematics and plastering it over every surface possible.

Dumbshit polack devs took forever to get on steam because "We are special independent snowflakes who don't need no steam to attract players"
Then those jews decided that it would be a great idea to remove like half of the features from the free version which completely killed what was left of the playerbase.
This gamed deserved better management than it got. It was fun as fuck and there is no other game like it.

>>342232807

How about
>so linear you get claustrophobia
>the most bland and mediocre combat you can get, Bamham without the meatiness. Holy shit this garbage
>holds your hand by pointing out every single FUCKING ledge you can grab and constantly railroads you in an already linear corridor. Its like the devs thought players are fucking mentally ill with extra chromosomes.
>>342229830
Gameplay was gutted and was shit
I so mad this game wasn't successful. It was the best version of the game. The customization was so GOOD.
And till this day it has the BEST FEMALE ASSES in the history of gaming.
>>342237608
Some people liked it a lot but I couldn't stand it and gave up after six hours or so. You need to spend a ton of time doing shit like collecting scrap metal just to progress the story. The driving is fun as fuck, though.
>>342199126
With all the talk about this game being dead or dying on this board, I just wanted to give people who were on the fence about buying or switching from PC some reassurance.
The PS4 battleborn population seems live and well. I play a lot of incursion, and id say 75% of my games take less than 1 minute to start. 20% take between 1-2 minutes. The last 5% take about 3 minutes or so.
I also see tons of lvl 3-6 players every day.
If anyone on the PS4 has a mic with good communication, im trying to form a dream team. I got really good with Oscar Mike; so im hoping for a tank; a healer; an assassin; and a sniper.
I would melt if I could find a team with a proficient Bolder, Miko, Deande or Rath, and Marquis.
Fight well my friends.
>>342227215
>Was super dissapointed because my housemate want to play co-op with me
Easily the worst part about the game, it's entirely based on co-op, but is single-player, online-only and has no co-op.
All Bungie had to do was take Halos feature list and slap Destiny on top.
>>342218602
I remember playing the shit out of this, and made a couple of experimental/puzzle maps. It was really neat, but ultimately unfinished and unloved.
>>342226679
>We're B'ack
What did they mean by this?
>>342236678
The game is optimised like shit. Lags all the fucking time and even threatens to screw you over choice wise as you wait for the game to catch up. The story was neat, but only worth a single playthrough.

i know one of the devs. They're still working on it, getting it polished and nice. All artwork is done, it's just sound and gameplay. Literally made by 1 guy who gets some industry proffessional friends for help.
>>342226995
Wrong. I know some people who worked on ayy as well.
They were intimidated by routine and when it came out they paniced and went "How the fuck can one guy in a cupboard outdo an entire studio!?" And then they stepped up and worked on graphics a lot more.

It had promising gameplay and a unique mechanic
When it was released the multiplayer was literally unplayable and the mechanics were executed horribly.
It took them 2 months to fix the multiplayer and gave a DLC for free as compensation but by the time they fixed it everyone left
There is a brink successor called dirty bomb and its still alive to this day but im still mad about the fact that brink lost a very good opportunity in making a great game, it's a shame

Best SP game I've played in the last decade easily. Not perfect, but it puts Doom 3 to shame. I was excited to finish Doom 4, finishing Doom 3 was a fucking chore... and then the last boss, the cyber demon! "Press q 4 times to win", cutscene, the end.
I fucking hate Doom 3. What a boring turd of a game.

I really enjoyed playing the beta with two friends.
But I had a feeling it wouldn't last long past the beta.
A combination of their awful marketing and DLC strategy, and the fact that 4 v 1, while fun, doesn't have lasting appeal because the cooperation is one-sided.
Both my friends bought it.
Glad I didn't. They stopped playing entirely a week after release.
i cant imagine who okayed this launching month after ps4 launch and xbone + gta 5 launch
with no advertisements etc
