Fun.
Considering gameplay, it is somewhat familiar to RE4. Prepare yourself to get raped by blade arm monsters, spike shooting babies, obligatory self-destruct blobs and so on. Some stages are annoying as fuck. Atmosphere is tight.

It is a good game, I did not get through it for some reason though.

An RE4-like horror shooter. The jumpscares get old immediately but repeat throughout the entire game. Lots of slow backtracking. From what I can tell, lots of people loved it, but I found it to be repetitive and boring. I suggest playing it and forming your own opinion OP.

>>342160702
Dead Space 2 is still a good game but it drops the excellent atmosphere almost entirely the exception being the level where you go back to ship from DS1 which was godtier for generic action.

Dead Space 3 just says fuck everything and gives you a generic as humanly possible co-op shooter that only feels somewhat like a Dead Space game for the first half.

A pretty good game. The second one trades a bit of DS1's atmosphere for more polished gameplay, but it's still very good. Third is by far the shittiest, forces co-op down your throat, you should only play it if you want to know how the story ends.

>>342163165
Start over, play on easy, or load a previous stage. Basically get better at the game.

It's survival horror, so your shots count. You can't just run around missing shots or getting lots of body shots. Sell stuff you don't need.Upgrade your weapons. Fewer shots to kill = more ammo left over.

You can just run in some situations too. Only time you really can't is if you're in a lockdown situation

Best weapons:
>Plasma cutter
>Line gun (mostly use stasis+mine for groups)
>Force gun (for the tiny crawlers)
>Contact beam for larger enemies

Dead Space is an original take on the space-horror theme with tons of innovations, it's a good play and an even nobler extension of the genre, but yields no promise in the realm of actual psychological horror, so its sequels don't impact fans nearly as much.

Fun game.

The PC version is broken as fuck, though -- turning Vsync on breaks the game with ridiculous lag while turning Vsync off breaks the game with fucked up mouse sensitivity -- so I'm glad I got it in $1 tier of some Humble bundle.

I can understand game play wise why cutting the limbs off necromorphs kills them, but why does it happen actually? What's the story given reason? They can lose their heads and brains and still slice at you and not die

the body is not controlled by the brain or heart, but by another living organism/infection, so destroying the brain/heart wouldn't cause much because they don't do anything anymore

so it's kinda like from the movie The Thing, or exactly like it, where the entire necromorph body is just a hivemind of cells. cutting it away piece by piece will sooner or later kill it
>>
>>342159689
Terrible horror game. Good action game.
>>
>>342168326
I personally think that if it wouldn't tank your framerate to hell and back, they'd have left the various limbs and torsos constantly twitching, i.e. you're not really killing anything, you're just removing mobility.
>>
>>342159689
If it's on PC, you need to open up the files and set the mouse sensitivity really high. Can't set it high enough in game.

Besides that, DS1 is as close to a 10/10 game as it gets. Looks great, sounds great, immersive, progress is rewarding, and the story is interesting. Don't worry too much about cash/ammo, when I got to the end of the game on impossible mode, I had over $200K. Oh, and don't hit continue game, instead hit load game, otherwise your save's difficulty might glitch and change.

DS2 streamlined movement and combat, and the aiming sensitivity was improved. Environment and story weren't as interesting. It also greatly changed Isaac's character in an unreasonable way, which is probably the main thing I dislike about it. Overall 8/10, worth playing.

DS3 fucked a lot of shit up. Worst part is enemy design and placement, you'll know why if you ever play it. Weapon building is disappointing, and you can only have two guns so variety is limited. Isaac is now a generic PTSD sci-fi protagonist, has very little personality of his own. Game tries to ratchet up the action part of it, but sacrifices everything else. 6/10, worth playing for the story, especially with a friend.
>>
>>342169158
Honestly Dead Space is better on a 360 with a controller. I've played it on PC too, and the analog sticks feel way better on 360. DS isn't designed to be a twitch shooter.. movement and aiming are supposed to be a bit sluggish.

I can't disagree more with your comments on 2 and 3. 2 shit all over the franchise and destroyed the atmosphere and characters. 3 was basically more of the same, except weapon crafting was awesome and coop was a boon. Story was shit, and your taste is bad
>>
>>342159689

Try it out, OP. It's some good shit.

If you like it, definitely pick up Dead Space 2.

Don't bother touching the third game tho
>>
>>342159689
I was really skeptic because EA and all, but 1 and 2 are solid "real" 7.5/10 games.
Dash of old school Resident Evil in space, also, it is obvious that devs did 1 and 2 game with love and pride, it looks like very little influence by EA.
DS3 on the other hand, while somewhat good game at moments, was literally like Facebook game, everything is for sale..
Weirdest part is, no one in the right mind needs that crap they were selling , i honestly dont know if anyone bought anything.
Those micro transactions were most vicious shit ever invented
