No, it's not really an accurate representation of the genre, but then again, nobody will agree on what an accurate representation of the genre is.
I'd say grab Perfect Cherry Blossom, but also look into emulating stuff like DoDonPachi, Battle Garegga, Darius, etc. If you want stuff that's easily accessible (e.g. on Steam) then you could look into titles such as Mushihimesama, Ikaruga, DariusBurst Chronicles, and Mecha Ritz: Steel Rondo.

It also depends on how replays work. As far as I'm aware, ZUN just saves a seed and then saves your inputs. It might be more difficult to do that if the inputs keep having to be erased because you died to Clownpiece for the 78th time.
Not to mention, the patterns don't come out the same way every time you redo a section, which as far as I'm aware must mean it's generating new seeds. A hypothetical LoLK replay would have to keep track of a shit ton of seeds.Note that I have next to no knowledge when it comes to programming.
