I don't think a better or worse game will come out at the end just because A, B or C-Team is working on it. It still takes a good director, art director and all that for a good game. Maybe Kamiya had a nice idea in his head, but it seems like it doesn't translate well into videogames. It is no coincidence however that the cult of the watchers was created in the aftermath of the disaster. A church and followers allows the androids to act as angels, allowing changes to be made without direct intervention. In one of the endings of drakengard we see seeds or eggs which fall from the sky and people dying everywhere to watcher monstrosities. This could also be seen as a cleansing though. Perhaps even a reset button for the world, the watchers could choose a hundred humans to save for repopulation, and then wipe out the rest. There's no evidence for this, however it would be such delicious irony if over the millennia the androids which are doing all this to preserve humanity, inadvertently cause the divergence that is the Nier earth.
