Console wars are good for marketing. Sega was the pioneer in this regard, although it's existed forever outside of video games. Sega just sort of accelerated console warring as a thing, this was back when Nintendo literally was console gaming since Atari left console gaming in a mess only Nintendo fixed.

/v/'s response to E3 in general this year has been very hateful and negative. More so than the last few years.

During E3 every single topic on the first page was about how shit or awful something was. And the ratio of people attacking vs defending a game was very one sided on the attackers side.
Normally it's a few attackers and shit loads of defenders/fanboys.
