The Risk system is kinda confusing. But hold shift, making a move while under Risk puts you at the start of the next turn or something. The higher the bar the more likely you'll fuck up and take more damage the next turn. I'm still trying to figure it out myself.

I played this game for a few hours yesterday, and while initially enjoyable I think there are some problems with the pacing and progression.
You get some choices early on but there doesn't seem to be much significance in your character other than the first few cutscenes. Battles involve just hitting enemies in melee or ranged and getting lucky with crits and risky attacks.
Once you get the first 4 characters, you run out of slots and can't recruit anymore. I missed out on recruiting a mushroom guy, an ifreeti, a crocadile guy, and a sasquatch cause I already maxed out the band size.
Most levels require doing every puzzle in order to finish them and unlock the next path, meaning you can't skip anything and have to do all the optional things.
I read that you can use the blacksmith to upgrade items by using two of the same item, so I bought 2 swords, 2 shields, and 2 armors from the trader and took them to the blacksmith. He claimed he would work on them but they just landed on the ground next to him. When I left and came back, all the items were gone.
At that point I just quit because the initial mystery was gone and I lost confidence in the mechanical design.

You can only have a party of four, but you can recruit many more people. The key is to recruit a laborer and claim new strongholds. AFAIK, you don't need to do every puzzle. As for the Blacksmith, it seems like he'll only upgrade identical items of the same tier. So anybody reading this should try to get duplicates of any weapons they really like.

I'm sorry but that's just you being retarded.
I think you hit 'done' rather than 'forge', and then, seeing that the items dropped on the ground, and knowing they would disappear when you left the map because the game told you this, you decided to leave anyway.
Anyway you can attempt to recruit the same enemies again when they respawn when their maps turn un-secured later on, or when you find them again. What you need is a stronghold big enough to house your band, then you can recruit as much as you want.

I guess this is my fault but I did not see a user interface button for forging, so I guess it's not possible for store-bought items.
As for the times on the the ground, I didn't have inventory space to pick them up and put them one-by-one into the quartermaster's stores. It's ridiculous that items left on the ground inside my stronghold with the quartermaster right there don't get cleaned up and put into his inventory.
I'll keep playing later but I'm soured on the game's initial premise based on how slow it is to upgrade the stronghold.

Tried this twice. First time I get along to the multiple paths to get out, get killed by stocks officer. No savegames so its done and over. Try again today make a more combat oriented character and check if there is a way to save, doesn't appear to be. Again die and since there is no save its just over. This must be really fun when you have played it for hours and that happens.

Have one guy in front. If you get hit, defend. Have your partner attack. If your risk gets too high, attack normally without risk. If you are a mage, or your partner is, just have the non-mage defend all day long and have the mage blast him to fuck.
I've got 3 different characters and they all beat him on the first try. If you can't even manage basic tank and spank tactics, you should stick to Overwatch or something because SRPGs are obviously too complex for you.

I started as a necromancer with my reanimated guard. Literally all we did was have him rush to the center and defend, while my mage dealt all the damage safely. Guard barely took any damage, mage took none and couldn't give a fuck about fumbles. This continued for the first few maps until we found more party members so we could do the same thing but with more characters.

Outside of the risk system, combat is simple so far. I'm still early in the game.
Normally, if nobody used risky moves, everyone would get one turn to perform a single action, and then another round of combat starts. But by using risky moves, a character can do multiple actions for each round of combat. But the more you act recklessly, the more likely you will fumble and end your turn. So you want to act recklessly until the risk is too much. Then you do a safe action and end your turn.
You pretty much have melee and magic attacks. Unless you have a weapon that lets you attack from a distance, you have to get in close to physically attack.
All magic is ranged. The starting magic spell is non-elemental, and has no benefits or weaknesses. You can equip accessories to change it to one of five elements, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.
Most of the combat will involve your tanks getting in close, and your mages and ranged fighters attack from afar. Nothing too intense. I haven't played a hard stage yet, besides the tutorial (because I didn't understand the risk system) and the fucking dullahan stage.

You can put a few points into an off-tree skill though. Like Hunt and Dodge are useful for practically every character, so it doesn't hurt much to put some points in it since they'll passively raise Fight/Guard or Blast/Ward as well.

Depends. Probably situational. I imagine a few builds are viable, like guard/ward tanks. Something like fight/blast might be doable, but depending which stat is higher you might prefer doing that instead. Say, if you have higher fight than blast, you're probably better off using your turns closing the distance to melee rather than shoot for lesser damage, unless your target is coming to you anyway and you're softening him up until he's close enough. Hunting is compatible with both fight and blast though.
What I'm wondering is whether a full magic/guile/physical build is possible. Mages with many ranks in blast, ward, and weave, or only two of the three. I'm not quite 20 yet but it feels like I'm spreading myself a little thin trying this.

Customizing Character Sprites
Any character with a unique name can have a fully customized sprite.
Create a 80 x 64 png file with hard alpha (no soft fading). Try to keep the character well-centered within the space, and aligned to the bottom of the frame.
Give the png file the same name as the character whose sprite you want to replace, and place it into the "PCCustom" folder in your Bastard Bonds install directory.
The mod is temporary, and will only work for as long as the file exists in the PC Custom folder. To revert the sprite's appearance, just remove the file or rename it.
See "Baako.png" for an example of proper format and placement.
This works with any creature or character, as long as the names match.
If you intend to use a mod with your main character, you may also want to create a nude version of the sprite for use in select cutscenes. Best way to start is to have labor recruits from Treasure trail, Small forest clearing, roadside stop.
So go into the char template maker and make bunch of laborers with max labor. Keep rerolling areas until you have 3-4 labor units. Get the grotto for 1850 man power. Then just keep recruiting labor units till you can get those 10k+ strongholds.
On my first play through I ended up missing out on alot of chars because their was no more room in my stronghold.

No, cheat engine only modifies numbers in a sense. I'm no expert either so I'm going to give it a shot, But the most important part you need to level up. you will need one skill point for this
1) Open process, the computer thing, and pick bastard bonds
2)Input the value you want to change and click New scan (this is in 4 bytes) lets say 24
3) Some values will start to appear then switch to your Bastards window and add a skill point
4) Search the new value (using as an example 25)
5) More numbers will appear, then refund a skill point and make it 24 again
6)repeat the process until you only have one address then click value and change

This game is fun but I can see it becoming a bit repetitive and boring after a while because of how shallow the gameplay is. I really hope the dev makes a sequel where he expands on the depth of the game. It's a rough gem now but with a bit of polish it will become a real gem, easily.
