Since Nintendo took the time to fund Bayo 2 then put Bayonetta in Smash Bros., it's likely that they see it as an IP they should protect and nurture on their hardware, especially since it fills a niche they have no clue how to make. Platinum probably gave Nintendo some kind of topping right for any future games in the series.

Bayonetta 2's dodge system was a bit more lenient, but the combos and weapons felt snappier.
I enjoy Bayo 1 for different reasons from 2, but like most of Platinum's good titles, they never lose their luster and the gameplay carries on with age.
