RP servers in general were fucking awful. Everyone was a mary sue, and god forbid you even try to fight or harm them in an RP battle. No one ever dies. Most autistic community I've ever encountered.

The most traditional thing I saw included Gchat being communicated through magical powers of the Hearthstone, allowing communication at all times you had that handy in the world.
Others I've seen is where the guild chat takes place in an imaginary hall, and if you were to participate in it, you'd have to announce yourself in the location, or have some sort of entrance to join in.
