I think it does work however from role-a playing perspective.
Notably whatever you pick Adam will have a different reason on why he picked it depends on how you play the game.

That was aug huge focus frist mission and the tie in Comic so I remember being ridiculously excited to get it.
It looks really cool and useful but really isn't. Especially when you still need to get special ammo for it which takes up a inventory slot.
Damn useful for taking out bots thought.
