Why didn't you guys tell me how much fun this game was?
I can't believe I've waited this long to finally get it.
>>342062161
not my fault that you're such a casual
>>342062161
>Why didn't you guys tell me how much fun this game was?
we did
it was the fucking gaming "media" who didn't do their jobs
We even made Kamiya post on /v/, we loved W101, you're late to the party anon.
But we did
well, atleast we tried
it was you who didn't listen
you never listen
This game came out 4 years ago and its still a good game to return to
>>342062726
Forreal? I haven't had this much fun in years . It almost reminds me of the first time I played viewtiful Joe and pikmin.
>>342062830
Don't you mean 3? It came out in 2013, right?
>>342062161
>I can't believe I've waited this long to finally get it.
I can't either considering how few notable exclusives the Wii U has. What did you buy the system and forget to buy games?
DANGER'S COMING, LOOMING LARGE

yup, he came and shitposted a bit with us, /v/ exploded that night
>>342064307
>>342064307
Keep on preachign my nig brotha, eventually them damned nintendokids will realise they don't actually have game like our fifa and cod
>>342064307
The wii u has a lot more notable exclusives than it's competition at the moment.
>>342064307
I bought the typical games made by Nintendo I normally would. This one was always on the back of my mild, as a type of last resort kind of thing I guess. So glad I finally gave it a chance.
>>342064374
Shit that must've been one hell of a night.
>>342063325
Did you find out?
>The 10 minute long shoot em up section in operation 006-B
>Which takes place immediately after a single man mission as Nelson
Holy fuck that stage still gets me pissed. The Nelson thing is cool but hard as balls and then it just slaps that monstrosity on the chapter.
>>342070139
>The Nelson thing is cool but hard as balls
?
Just spam A button, and recruit enemies, my man
One man missions are all super easy than full 100+ missions
>>342070390
>spam A button
Then you lose all your battery, meaning you can't dodge or shield.
>>342064374
I was #30 on that post.
>>342070139
The shmup of 006-b was one of my favourite parts of the game, I legitimately have difficulty understanding how others failed to like it. Hell I'd take a whole game like that.
>>342070476
well duh
obviously use your common sense
> problems with energy
in most cases people who run out of energy keep "redrawing" weapons each time they want to conjure them
pressing A conjures current set weapon instantly and with consumes no energy
more over -- ATTACKING also doesn't consume enery
literally just spamming A WON'T deplete your battery in any way
>>342070980
I like the alternate gameplay sections but they're fucking frustrating when it comes to trying to get Pure Platinum ranks. Especially when you have to re-do several normal fights because you messed up on a shmup section that came before a checkpoint.
>>342071162
Spamming A before you have any units to draw a unite morph with will drain your energy. The item that turns the dough-goos on your side doesn't drop until he's taken a healthy amount of damage, which is the section I'm talking about.
Once you can draw a unite morph, the battle becomes fun. But until then it's not. Having to take down a diedough-goo by yourself is not fun.
>>342071543
>Having to take down a diedough-goo by yourself is not fun.
But he literally dies after three hits?..
Do you realize you can do Guts in one man form as well?
Diedough-goo are easier to kill as 1 man
>>342071773
>But he literally dies after three hits
No he doesn't.
>Diedough-goo are easier to kill as 1 man
No they aren't.
>>342070980
As someone who loves the vast majority of the entire game and considers it the best game the Wii U has to offer, I can tell you a few main reason why that SHMUP section annoys me.
First, the camera angle. There's an invisible wall perpendicular to the direction the stage is laid out that keeps you from going backwards, obviously, but the problem is that said wall is invisible, and there's still a corner of the stage visible there due to the isometric camera. The first time I played it, I got caught on pillars once or twice and died because I got squashed against, from my point of view, absolutely nothing. It also prevents you from seeing enemies coming in from the corners of the stage, which can lead to cheap hits with no Ukemi to save you. It would've been better if it had just been a pure side scroller like Gradius, or a vertical scroller like Touhou, but they tried to do it their own way and it just doesn't work.
Also, it's slow as fuck, and there's no way to go faster, so you're just floating around half the time waiting for enemies to pop in or obstacles to overcome. So it seesaws back and forth between mind-numbingly boring and jaw-clenchingly aggravating.
I've been thinking about replaying it. It's such a good game and has so much love and thought put into it.
>>342071940
i dunno, man
you do know that you can do all special moves in one man form too?
stinger, cyclone and rising?
you can also do Red Hot Kick but it's only forRed vs Bluefight
>>342071971
I've been thinking the same. The only thing really stopping me is that I've got so many other games that I haven't beatensome I haven't even openedthat I feel I should be playing instead.
>>342073092
I feel like I should just do it now since the next few months are jam packed with games.
I didn't like it desu. There's a lot of questionable game design choices like those parts where the screen goes to the gamepad and camera control is nearly impossible.
>>342073542
>screen goes to the gamepad and camera control is nearly impossible.
just press L button
>>342073285
I want to too, but I'm still knee-deep in Hyrule Warriors Legends and Xenoblade Chronicleswaiting to play XCX until I beat the first, among other games.
And then in a month Monster Hunter Generations comes out and I'll sink another three hundred hours into that.
>>342073542
I won't deny that the camera during the Gamepad segments can be frustrating. Most of the time, though, I don't think it's a deal breaker, especially when you find out you can hold R to use the right stick to move the camera freely.
Just finished replaying iton Normal.
Was going to do a Hard run but the rust was real. At least I managed to avoid consolation prizes and only had 4 bronze. My first time was a consolation prize run.
>>342073867
Sounds exactly like me.
>>342073867
The first time I played the game, my only consolation prize was on 006-B.I died like 6 times during the SHMUP section due to getting squashed by walls, my own stupidity with opening the doors along the way, my general lack of ability in SHMUPs, and everything here >>342071961
>W102 never
>>342075083
Just gotta believe, man. If Kamiya wants to make it, he'll find a way.He did express interest in doing a Wonder-Blue spinoff of some kind, IIRC.
>>342075083
If the NX is a way bigger success than the Wii U and Wii U games were available for download on the NX I hope more people will be exposed to The Wonderful 101
>>342062161
We did, faggots just were full of bullshitit was godhand all over again
>>342074113
>>342075207don't stop
>>342064374
I was too late to post my copy of the game.
>>342075436best girl
>>342075237
I think a bigger problem than exposure is that the game is pretty tough until you learn the mechanics, which typically takes an entire playthrough of the game due to being pretty complicated compared to something like bayonetta and definitely compared to god of war, the most mainstream game anywhere close to this style of game. Your average person isn't going to want to put up with a playthrough of constant consolation prizes just to be told "well the next time you play through you won't be such an embarassment and can actually have fun." W101 is just too niche to find the sort of success that would make funding a sequel worthwhile. Even if there ended up being a resurgence of people finding out about and playing the game on NX it's just going to lead to complaints about it being too hard to understand or play.
>>342076061
Part of the problem was that games journos were fucking garbage at it and didn't take the time to get better.
Or they were just retards.
Or both.
>>342075612
>>342076298
Any other industry and this guy would have been laughed out of a job. Who/what website was this anyway?
>>342076061
>game due to being pretty complicated compared to something like bayonetta
Except W101 is very simple especially compared to Bayonetta
Core gameplay system are is all very slimmed down version
It's not the complexity (which is actually on the lower side), it's how unconventional that is
Bayonetta's combat is very complex and is merges both DMC and NG approaches with a healthy helping of original ideas
BUT
It relies on the same action-adventures tropes and control scheme that normies have been exposed for decades now and thus they are more receptive to them compares to systems that throw it out completely and recreate combat from scratch
>>342076298
I hope to god after DOOM that more people realize most reviewers can't play video games for shit. This shit is just unacceptable. I'm still fucking pissed about the guy who reviewed some beet em up and gave it an awful score because he hates the genre. I want to say double dragon neon.
>>342076298
>>342076898
A lot of journos trashed DKC:TF for being "too difficult" as well, when it's a fucking Donkey Kong game
>>342076898
imagine a literary critic who hasn't read classics and can't barely read words for shit let alone analyze text, subtext and form, appreciate references and allegories
imagine a movie critic who hasn't seen his Hitchcocks, Kurosawas and Bergman
>>342076898
It was either DD Neon or Dragon's Crown, but yea. He admits almost immediately he hates the genre, then proceeds to list off why he hates it.
>>342076703
I've never been able to find out, sadly. Probably Polygon or Kotaku or something.
Part of that problem, though, is that 'professional games journalists' are virtually useless nowadays with the advent of Youtube and streamers/LPers. People who are interested in a game can go find footage of someone playing who either knows what they're doing, and/or is entertaining to watch, and get a handle on whether they'd like the game that way, rather than relying on walls of textor actual gaming magazinesRIP GameFan
When a purely internet 'e-celeb' like The Completionist can land interviews with guys like Miyamoto and Reggie , what need is there for people who don't care>Personally I think that's part of why a lot of them are bitter and angry nowadays and that's why all the gamergate bullshit snowballed out of control like it did
>>342076061
The problem with games like God Hand and Wonderful 101 is that if you don't learn the mechanics you just kind of stumble through using brute force and it feels like a crappy brawler, the games really need to actively make sure that not using the mechanics fully means you can't proceed, then you won't get idiots who played the whole game making things as hard as possible for themselves and then complain.
>>342077593
>Youtube and streamers/LPers
That may not be such a good thing because then you get people like this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6xFveKMBpE
>>342062161
It was pretty damn fun while it lasted, especially taking turns with someone elsetfw I can't finish it, because my friend who I played it halfway through with died
>>342077968
Granted, for every 'good' 'e-celeb' there's a thousand terrible ones, but even the terrible ones are still getting the games exposure.
Guys likeNostalgia Critichave said that his reviews of bad movies tend to result in higher sales, just because he's got a wide audience.
>>342077804
The only problem with that is that instead of beating the game and complaining they'll just fail to beat the game and complain.
>>342077260
So all of them ?
>>342078465
This. That one critic couldn't best the final boss in Metal Gear Rising and gave the game a 4/10.
>>342078849
To be entirely fair, there's always going to be some personal taste involved, no matter how much people try to be unbiased. Some people might just not mesh well with the gameplay or some other aspect, and will rate the game lower because of that, even if it's just them failing the game instead of the other way around.
But there's a difference between personal taste and shit like this. >>342076298
>>342079137
it's not about tastes or biases or whatever
the one and only function of a game review is to help potential customer to make an informed decision
if one is a dragon dildo connoisseur looking for a new item to add to their collection, why would they waste their time reading review from someone who clearly knows shit about topic in question and has never used them
>mfw I love Platinum, love Bayonetta, love Viewtiful Joe, but absolutely hated W101
>>342079753
W101 is Platinum's objectively best game
>>342077804
I just started playing and this is really the first Platinum game where I'm constantly getting my ass kicked.
I mean, I wasn't doing too shabby in MGR:R or any of the Bayonetta games, but I keep getting consistently low scores for this game
Any pointers on how to git gud?
>>342079879
from any objective level nobody could forgive the shitty gamepad minigame segments that are in every single mission.
>>342077008
Dong Freeze is no joke, my dude
>>342079902
>MGR:R or any of the Bayonetta
that's because they're extremely casual friendly, MGR especially having been made for people who never saw an action game before in their life
>>342079941
objectively there are like just five of them in entire game and none of them take more than 2 minutes in a 15+ hours game
literally just L shoulder button if you have problems with camera
>>342080290
Any game that has that fucking step on buttons to move the ship SHMUP section is unforgivable.
objectively Platinum's best game so far is Bayonetta 2.
>>342080290
I guess that's what I get for being a low test faggot
Best thing to do is probably look something up somewhere and just play the fucking game.
Oh well.
>>342079941
Except they're not.
They're not even in every Operation.git gud
>>342079902
The main thing to keep in mind, especially against new enemies, is not to rush things. Learning an enemy's moves and how to counter them is immensely useful, so keep both visual and audio cues in mind, especially the tanks with their cannons and lasers.
Since the penalty for getting hit is not only taking damage and reducing your score, but scattering your party, you should concentrate on not getting hit first and foremost. Once you've got that in mind, then you can concentrate on taking enemies down one by one.
Also Guts and Spring are your friend, but Drill Spring is an impostor. Don't trust it.
Also also possibly find combo videos online to see some of the cool shit you can string together once you're good enough.
Also also also, use Gun a lot until you unlock Gun Stinger. It's amazing for racking up combos and stunning enemies.
>>342080372
>Any game that has that fucking step on buttons to move the ship SHMUP section is unforgivable.
except that part was fucking great and not hard at all
you're not just pressing buttons you also fighting enemies inside while controlling the ship
It's probably the best implementation of "inside-outside" idea that this game is based on
If you can't deal with such a basic fight, well you know what they say...
>>342080570
And it was also the most annoying shit in the game.
Just like Star Fox Zero, I absolutely cannot fucking stand when I'm forced to look between two screens.
>>342080667
So hit the select button a few times so it's all on one screen.or just fucking git gud and stop blaming the game for your lack of skill
>>342080784
Or maybe Kamiya shouldn't put terrible minigames in every game he makes.
I mean those first person water segments in Devil May Cry were SO FUN.
>>342080667
>I absolutely cannot fucking stand when I'm forced to look between two screens.
It's not that hard
Kill enemies fast, do a quick glance to check on ship outside, press a button to dodge once in a blue moon
>>342081053
>I mean those first person water segments in Devil May Cry were SO FUN
Same thing.
There are literally four water segments in total (including secret mission) and they barely last a minute each
It's a complete non-issue
>>342081053
The punch out sections in W101 are great though so I'm glad at least those are included.
I played the demo and thought it wasn't very good. Is the game different than the demo?
A while ago, some kind anon used solid works to model the wonder pendant. I made sure to save that shit and. Got it 3D printed. If any anon wants the file, point me in the direction of someplace to upload the file so I can post the link here in case any other anons want to do the same
>>342082631
The demo is just 2/3 of the first main stage in the game. There's a ton of new techniques to learn, allies to recruit, and ridiculous enemies to fight after that. The whole game takes about 12-15 hours on a first playthrough.
So I guess it depends on what you didn't like about the demo. If it's the combat, it tends to take a while to really click with most people, so maybe play through the demo a few more times, try to get better ranks and such to see more of how the game really works.
Actual best girl.
Want to 100% it, but can't do a flawless fight against Gigga Goojin in boxing.
man i completely never thought of playing this game - it simply never occurred to me. i loved picmin 2 will i love this game?

>>342083001
It's only, like, 5% Pikmin, in that you have control over a squad of people most of the time.
It's more comparable to something like Bayonetta, but with Okami's drawing mechanics for switching weapons on the fly.
>>342083057
>hardest part for me was reading when he was going to use his kick compared to just punching
He turns your back when he does both kick or back hand punch
But the animation is very sliiightly different when he's doing back hand -- i think he slouches more

One of the best review i think was gametrailers.
The minuscule amount of rule 34 of the girls from this game is fucking tragic.
Also can everybody agree that the English dub for this is fantastic? Usually you expect a game like this to have shitty anime level voice actors but these people fit the whole "thunder birds/comic book/power rangers" feeling.

More like it got drowned in notable Wii U exclusives.
Social inepts couldn't spin it as censorship because Pink kept flashing her panties in every scene (although calling such games "inconsistent censorship" seems to be catching on with that loud little group these days), so they just port-begged for it instead.
>>342070476
>You can platinum the game without dodge or shield
>>342089549
Depending on what exactly you mean by 'platinum' the game, that's probably untrue.
If you mean getting everything in the game, there's at least one achievement for reflecting an attack back with Guts, plus another for buying everything the shop has to offer, I think.
If you just mean beating everything with high rankings, while technically possible, doing so would be absurdly difficult. Even Hoedowns are tough to beat without reflecting their cannon shots back at them.
One of the GOAT. Easily one of the best action games ever made, even for all its flaws.
I listen to its OST regularly. I should go back to it honestly. I still need to beat 101% Hard.
Alice MacGregor is an underrated vidya girl.
>>342087504
Yeah I really wish Nintendo would put this much effort into all their games with voice acting.
If BotW doesn't have good voice acting all throughout the game, I will be severely disappointed, especially since that's supposed to be their big major title of the next year in one of their biggest, most iconic IPs.
>>342088339
