Once upon a time, I did a few DJ gigs at a furry club.
During my time there I saw something I just couldn't comprehend.

It was a mod that let your "master" have complete and total control over you. They could make you deaf to anyone else's messages. They could mute you. They could, at any point in time, freeze you in place and leave you on a pedestal. And these were settings that would be saved - you couldn't just turn them off, so you could turn off Second Life, then come back, and still have it on.
Way I heard was that there were versions of the mod that could be removed, but there were also rootkit versions that could re-open Second Life if you closed it, or prevent you from removing the mod altogether short of doing whatever it is that you typically have to do in order to remove rootkits, which to my knowledge is a fairly painful process.
I didn't get it. I didn't understand it. I felt you should always have ultimate choice, to refuse at any time, but the idea of mods that would take away your choice of refusal scared the fuck out of me all the more given that it was my first run-in with BDSM mods, and I really wanted to ERP fuck the latex dragon but I'd need permission from the master and then it was a pedestal and totally dead to the world and it freaked me out so bad that I had to cut the DJ session short and leave for a bit to calm down. It's called RLV and it just lets things in SL control your viewer, this is actually useful for things that automatically teleport and making custom huds to change outfits at the click of a button. But it can't actually do anything genuinely bad to you and you can literally just turn it off, restart your viewer and it won't work anymore, assuming you even turned it on in the first place. If you were worried you were going to be a statue for a week, you could just make an alt, let it mature for a few weeks and then use that for erp, when you were a statue you could just leave a text only viewer open on that avatar and use your main for other things.

Finding people who even interested in attempting it has always been the hard part. I don't know why. You still have everything you get from playing over a tabletop-centric program, plus full 3d models/animation, plus added automation of mechanics through coded HUDs and gadgets.
