I've actually had quite a bit of fun with some stuff from kickstarter. Shovel Knight, FTL, Freedom Planet, Volgarr, Banner Saga. Shovel Knight was pretty average. All of the bosses got wrecked by just getting in their face and spamming attack besides the final boss.

Four million, and it's using DX9 because of handhelds. Actually, that also explains why the graphics look so utterly awful. Although it's not entirely accurate considering Dragon's Crown had a budget of one million, released on the Vita, and looked infinitely better than MN9. So, you can attribute MN9's failure to both appealing to handheld devices and, more importantly, Inafune being a scam artist and businessman.

I gave the campaign $10 and it immediately taught me never to give money to a kickstarter ever again.
I donated around the time of the Call design contest.
I voted forH. About 1 month later, I received a strange email with japanese characters and the word "Call" in the subject line. Like the subject line, the email was filled with weird Japanese letters that I couldn't read (despite myself being an otaku, heh).
Well, I thought nothing of it. Then, I got another one. And another one. I kept getting more and more with more frequency.
I blocked the email but nope, the next day a new email would start spamming me Japanese emails.
Shit finally came to a head when I received a weird phone call on Skype. I was Skyping with my gf I met on Gaia, and I get a phone call from a person with a Japanese sounding name. Kaiju Inafuta or something like that. I decide to answer the call and I'll never forget what a horrible experience I had.
A middle aged Japanese man was staring at me. He was sweating profusely and seemed to be naked, but I couldn't see that far down his body through the cam. He just stared at me before saying "You vote for Carr H?" I gulped, I had no idea what that mean. "Herro, stupid? You vote for Carr H? Mighty Numma Nine? Herro?" Mighty Number 9? Huh? Then I remembered that dumb game I gave 10 dollars to.
"You vote Carr H? Fuck you. Carr H is shit. Change vote or die." He was giving me the middle finger and looked like his was jacking off below the camera. I was in tears. ERPing with my gf did nothing to console me that night. I was visibly shaken. I was just threatened by some Japanese man because I voted for a character design for some game. The harassment didn't stop there. I had to change phone numbers and move to a new place eventually. The emails have finally trickled off and I've gotten less threatening letters. Fuck Kickstarter.

Notice how the first two ways they talk about implementing this system, as basic augmentations, was the shape it took form as. They literally did not promise anything other than a system where going out of your way to defeat enemies would help you.
Only one of the "Mighty Skills" concepts from beating enemies was even shown to change Beck at all, and this just ended up becoming Brandish's weapon anyways.
