I'm bad at probabilities and don't remember much. How about-
Let's call T1, T2 the variables of the two tosses.
In the first case,
P(T1=Heads)=1, so (T1=Heads) is a complete system of probabilities or however you call that.
Therefore by complete probabilities
P(T1=heads AND T2=heads) = P(T2=Heads Knowing T1=Heads) * P( T1 = Heads)
= 1/2 * 1 (T2 is in this case independant from T1).
50% chance of survival.
In the second case, T1 and T2 aren't independant. P(T2=Heads KNOWING T1=Tails)=1, ¨P(T2=Heads KNOWING T1=Tails) = 1/2
So
P(T1 = Heads AND T2 = Heads) = P(T1 = heads) * P( T2 = Heads KNOWING T1 = Heads)
= 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/4 which is exactly the same as if your guardian angel didn't do anything.

I would write down the formula but it would just look a mess, original poster here.
Basically, the possible scenarios form a S group made of 4 elements:
HH
HT
TH
TT
We are analyzing the event "Victory: double heads", wich makes the group E made, obviously, by just one element: HH.
Since every coin toss has the same chances to be heads or tails, we can safely use the classic conception of probability, which says that P, as in probability, is:
P=#E/#S
So we have 1/4 chances to win the game, easy enough.
Now those 2 powers are merely restrictions to the S group.
The first restriction says that the first coin flip will be heads. This eliminates 2 elements of the S group: TT and TH, meaning the probability of victory is 1/2.
The second restriction still removes something from S, that is the element TT. Which means that the scenarios HH, HT and TH are left untouched, meaning the possibility of victory is just 1/3. So having your first flip coin heads is the correct answer.
This and the monty hall problems are just some examples on how probabilistic is a way more complicated and austic mess than it appears, and that even the slightest restrictions and previous knowledges about events may truly make the difference in so many things.

You can't use values from prior the restriction to apply them in your formula. Let me put it this way then-
You're obtaining the values by giving yourself two independant variables (T1 & T2, Where T1 and T2 ~B(1/2), and X~B(p) reads "X follows the independant variable of Bernoulli of parameter p")
You then say " P( Y1=1, Y2=1) = 1/4 (true, they're independant)
P(Y1+Y2>0)=3/4 (also true)
But then you insert that in a formula which uses two different variables, let's call them Y1 and Y2, where Y1~B(1/2) but Y2 ISN'T independant from Y1 because of the restriction.
You conclude by saying

There was absolutely no reason for Phi to resemble Santa storywise, and Uchi wasn't terribly concerned with it either. It wasn't even meant to be a red herring. She just looked like Santa because the character designer liked Santa's design and wanted to reuse it.
