I tried out the Vive yesterday for 20 minutes at Microcenter. If you're curious about VR, ask me about my experience.
>>
describe your VIVE experience with one word
>>
>>342015937
Motion sickness how bad?
>>
>>342016019
JUST
>>
did you get self conscious knowing people were watching you move around like a retard
>>
>>342016043
Not him, I tried the Vive at Curry's PC World. No motion sickness on my end because it was running at a decent framerate and resolution, no motion sickness for my 3 other friends either.
>>
I keep almost buying it but I stop myself

It looks like it has VERY few games
>>
I tried the oculus a year back so you can ask me something as well.
>>
>>342016190
If you tried it a year ago, you probably did on an obsolete low res piece of shit.
>>

Ill just leave this here
>>

I came from the era of nes and snes and when I was younger I never thought I would see this type of tech in my life.
I was happy with it piece of shit or not. I wanna try both vive and oculus again on both of their consumer products
>>
>>342016019
Frenetic.

>>342016043
Considering I'd done some work with the Rift for a few university projects before, no motion sickness whatsoever. This wasn't my first VR rodeo.

>>342016140
Not really. They could see what I was doing on-screen, so I assume it wouldn't look all that strange.

>>342016174
Don't. Not yet. So far it's all just neat tech demos. Fun to be sure, but there are no worthwhile games out for it. Only get it if you're a famous Let's Player, or you're looking to develop for it.
>>
>>342016423
Yeah
We need a dev from the modern generation to make a game that is like super mario brothers for the nes

Easy to recognize
Fun
Challenging
and accustomed to VR
>>
>>342015937
did you get conjunctivitis or any other disease from putting in your face something that many people used?
>>
Have you used the vr headsets for phones, and if so, how much better is the vive visually?
>>
>>342018414
Nope. They wiped 'em down after each person used them.
>>
VR is okay, tried one a few days ago at a friends, wouldn't but one though cause I know I'd be bored of it within a week. All the games specifically made for it are kinda crappy, and the only games I'd use it for can be played completely fine without it. It's cool technology, but it's gonna be at least a few years before it has a more practical place in video games beyond gimmicky shooting gallery type games.
>>
>>342020009
And porn! Don't forget porn!
>>

>Microcenter
You lucky piece of shit.
>>
>>342020193
I know. It's like the Wonka's Chocolate Factory of PC-related tech. It's where I got both my rig and my laptop.

>Phone VR
Jesus Christ. I tried it once and it physically hurt me with how slow, unresponsive and unfun it was. The Vive is the best thing out there for a reason. Hardly any "screen door" effect, comfortable fit, consistent frame rate, being able to physically move around a physical space and have it still track you, the twin Wiimotes that actually work, all of it is so much better than the phone stuff.
>>
>>342020713
good to know, thanks anon. My only experience had been with phone VR and I wasn't all that impressed. I'll have to give the vive a try.
>>
>>342020713
idk seems fine for some

https://youtu.be/V0MOacoTV0A
>>
>>342020952
Do it. It is very much worth trying and, when you do, really put it through its paces. Since I knew that I had a limited time with the Vive I was sure to really push the hardware. I was ducking down, looking under virtual tables, turning quickly, jumping, dodging, waving the remotes around, doing my best to de-sync it and I simply couldn't do it. It really is something.

>>342021142
Oh, sure it looks fine there. That's because you're not actually seeing what HE'S seeing. You're seeing a STREAM of what he's seeing. Catch my drift?
>>
>>342021475
It is what hes seeing? If anything the stream would be a lower quality than what he's seeing. I just think its cool for anyone who wants just the 1st person 3d effect without the gimmicky motion control games and all that. If you have a good quality phone screen it will look fine and cost 30-100 for a headset+the app required than 600 for a rift or 300 for the razer one.
>>
Not OP, but someone who suffers from vestibular problems and gets motion sickness very badly

Vive and Oculus had no adverse effects on me. Genuinely amazing too.

>>
>>342019554
Gear VR is OK. Google cardboard (and its ilk) gave me nausea that lasted literally a week.

>>342021996
(me) btw
>>
>>342015937
Got one last week (ordered late Monday night during E3 and got it Wednesday to the not-america country I live in. Huge kudos to Valve/HTC) to this small tech organisation I'm a member of. Sadly they only got crappy macs so we couldn't get it to run at the time, but we are getting a ~$2k Win-PC any time now so I'm just so excited I can't breath properly.

Thank god for taxpayers and gov-people who gives you whatever you want as long as you mention integration.

Some authority you are.
>>
>>342022049

You are weak. That is an objective fact.
>>
>>342023194
no
>>
Dont fall for the vr meme, i spent many dolla on a Oculus Rift and use it once a month and can only use it for about 30 minutes at the time couse motion sickness.
>>
>>342024059
When did you get it and what version is it?
>>
ask a guy who bought OSVR before they announced their high-res display anything :^)
>>
>>342024232
Its the dk2, but from what ive hears its not so different from the newest one. Got it last summer.
>>
>>342024457
The Vive is a lot better. Better tracking, better software support and it feels better on your face.
>>
>>342024592
Ye if ive heard, but it costs way more and i dont really have the space for the set up it needs.
>>
>>342024059
Funny, I have similar situation, except I don't get motion sickness, instead I'll start up one of the games where you dangle in space and they always scare the shit out of me. Just played Zero-G VR, only completed one easy level and I already was covered in cold sweat.
>>

How did you survived?
>>
>>342024946
Try to play subnautica, that shit is scary.

>>342025020
Yes
>>
>>342015937
When you wear the headset, does it actually feel like you are in a virtual reality? Do you see any part of the headset while playing? Or is it that immersive
>>
Has anyone tried The Lab that valve released a little while ago? I'm wondering how it is.
>>
>>342025536
No blind-spots here. It's about as immersive as you can get from what I've experienced. One of the first demos I was given was an underwater scene where you're standing on a sunken ship. You could look out over the railing and see the sea floor far below you. It was pretty intimidating, desu. Then the fucking blue whale showed up and swam right by me. It was very nice and the tracking was very responsive.

>>342025734
No, but I did get to try Google's Tilt Brush and a shooting game called Space Pirate Trainer. Both were very fun and I wished that I could have spent more time with both.
>>
I want a Vive so bad, but I feel like that there isn't enough content for. Should I wait for the price to drop anyways? Do you think the price will drop anytime soon?
>>
>>342026393
Yes nigga wait. Vive has nogames
>>
>>342026393
Like I said before. Only get it now if you're a YouTuber who can bank off of it, or you're a developer. If you're a consumer, wait.

wew m80 you sure showed those stupid VR kids how wrong they are XD
>>
>>342027612
Well the resolution is a bit better but there really isnt any thing big and new with the cv compared to the dk2. Its better yes, but its not as big as the oppgrade from dk1 to dk2.
>>
>>342027612
at least say the k-word you pussy
