Who wants some NX leaks?
Scott Moffitt was being extremely misleading. Wii U is being phased out, but NX is NOT replacing it in the way you might imagine. Instead, NX will be an 'improved' Wii U with a gamepad slick enough to carry around with you and insert cartridges into. It is NOT a hybrid system, as you can buy the console and gamepad separately and have them work just fine. The main focus for NX is to make carrying console quality games around with you practical in a post mobile world.
In other notes, Wii U and 3DS WILL continue to be supported, well into 2017. Zelda is not the only cross platform game for the system, as you will see when the NX is revealed this September. Star Fox 02, the upcoming 2D Mario reboot, Pikmin 4, Endless Ocean 3, and Animal Crossing, Alethea (Retro's new IP) will ALL be cross platform. You will continue to see new Wii U releases until the end of 2017. Longer than that, if you include digital releases.
There is no console Metroid game currently in production. Nintendo believes that there is no audience for that sort of title, as Fusion and Zero Mission did not perform to expectations. Federation Force will likely be the last Metroid game if it doesn't do well. Note this is after a long string of not performing to expectations. The Prime Trilogy did not do as well as they had hoped either. DKCR did better than all of them. Nintendo knows that Metroid 'fans' do not buy their games.
Nintendo is in negotiations with Platinum for a real second party partnership. Following the development of Scalebound, which is NOT going well, Platinum has warmed up to the idea, although they're fighting hard to be allowed to keep a lot of their creative freedom. And yes, Itagaki's studio Valhalla is in the same boat. The Wii U version of Devil's Third bombed, but they started work on the sequel immediately. The PC version is doing relatively well, the focus for the console version of the game is improving the single player.

To put it simply, they are rethinking the way 2D Mario games are played by rethinking the formula. The general idea is that it has an 'open' map like 3D World where you can walk anywhere you like... but you're not exactly sure where Peach is! The idea is to surprise players with surprising changes to the map and levels you've already played, sort of an expanded version of what SMW did. I'd describe this as the 'real Super Mario Bros 5, going by what I've seen. The idea is to give an air of mystery about the world you find yourself in. Lots of new environments in this one.

Star Fox 02 is being made specifically to try and put out a quality sequel in a relatively short amount of time. Miyamoto was actually very annoyed with Zelda being delayed, and is actually taking steps to prevent that from happening again.
Of course, now that Nintendo has successfully made the jump into HD development, you can expect delays to become less of an issue for the near future.

Look. I'm not here to start a shitposting festival here, but there's a pretty good reason why traditional metroid isn't huge.
But the Prime series has everything people want. The only reasons it doesn't sell well is because of the following:

>Prime 3 was one of half a dozen games for Wii that was actually "hardcore" so it didn't sell well either
The problem is that Nintendo keeps on ignoring what westerners ask for. It's just typical idiotic Japanese business sensibilities. If there had been a Metroid Prime for Wii U that release in the first 2 years of the console's lifespan, I fucking guarantee it would have been a million seller within 18 months and probably would have done a lot to move consoles. Most of the people I know who held out on buying a Wii U were waiting for something like BotW or a new Metroid.

Don't forget, Nintendo was also depending on third-parties to fill the gap. Rayman Legends was an exclusive set to fill the spring window for a little bit and then got fucking delayed 6 months and unmade an exclusive 2 weeks before release.

They should have delayed them in September or October before the machine even released. I'm sure it's not some sort of situation where they only realized at the last minute in December that they couldn't ship the games in time.

Either way, until something has a concrete release date, I don't think it should be held 100% accountable considering the regular amount of delays games receive nowadays.
But yes, Nintendo messed up and admitted they did. I don't see that as a crime. I'd say it'd be tough to believe them if they claimed Launch Window for any NX games.
Also, The Wonderful 101 isn't a Nintendo game, only a published one. Iwata's Nintendo is not known to rush third-parties, or am I wrong?

Thinking a Prime game in the Prime series will have any affect to the main series. If Federation Force fails Nintendo will just kill Prime not Metroid, just stop.
