Easily the best FF on the PS1 (or better than VIII at the very least) shame we'll never get a sequel/remake but on second thought it's better than Squeenix leaves well enough alone for once.

Alright guys. I'll level with you. I never played FF9. I purposefully avoided it when I was younger and rounding out some FF games because I thought it looked silly. However I hear from a lot that it's actually really good. Underappreciated.
So I ask you as a fan of FF7, FF4, and FF10 specifically why should I okay this game? Note I am a story/character person.

you fight her 3 times yet you can't beat her even though she's fighting against a guy who is able to turn into a literal angel of destruction when motivated hard enough
she's never punished for her war crimes, she and her soldiers annihilated two nations completely and caused unprecedented genocide

It's a relatively lighthearted story with lovable characters that's loaded with callbacks to older Final Fantasies. I think it's the most outright "fun" FF game, myself, which is part of the reason I love it so much.

Story does a lot of classical story telling things. A street wise hurculese an adventurous princess, a doll learning what it means to be alive, and a knight who learns what true loyalty means.
The story also does what other final fantasy stories do, peaceful kingdom goes to war with a strange tactical advantage. Arms dealer is pulling the strings and turns out there is much more to this than meets the eye.
Main character isn't moody
and the rest of the cast really stands out from one another.
