He's all around good.
Decent heal, sprint is nice, gun has good range and headshots deal a lot of damage. Right click can be hard to use but is great for close encounters or slow targets.
Q is all around fantastic, especially with a Reinhardt protecting him (not that you'll usually need it, people tend to run in terror when he activates).
He's a great choice for pretty much an situation.

It is what it is. Just shoot at the ground to get lift off. It's pretty much what pharah does except she's got more air mobility without doing damage to herself. Rocket jumping is such a gimmick in tf2 whereas it's a technical skill in over watch. Junkrat is able to do the same to get higher and it's just as easy. Who would risk taking damage in a competitive match just to get in the air where you are a sitting duck? Explain to me how rocket jumping is at all skillful.

The reason cosmetics ruined TF2 was because of how they were obtained and the fact that they could be traded and sold. It then became nothing but groups of retards idling for hat drops to sell to each other.
Add in the bullshit, completely imbalanced loadout items that were gotten and traded all the same and you were left with a game that, when people WERE actually playing, rewarded paying money or wasting time, and otherwise was nothing but people wasting time.
Overwatch actually won't let you idle to gain XP for loot boxes and even if it did, you can't trade or sell items so there wouldn't be a point. It also doesn't have any items that affect gameplay or break balance beyond what the characters already can do.

That move is suicide in 90% of situations. That's why it deals so much damage, also you're likely to miss most heroes with it.
Hook into primary fire isn't one shot, it's half of Roadhog's abilities, and it requires you to reliably hit the hook

The fact that you damage yourself to get a better shooting position and kill someone, or a few of them, or maybe escape from an impossible situation and than kill them is what makes it skillful. If you take the damage done to yourself out of the equation there is no skill involved because the skill is to be so good that you can balance hurting yourself to get a kill on your opponent.

The game is already dying. It's flavour of the month, Blizzard isn't putting any content in it and is a lazy as fuck company. They've just been riding on the wave of cash from wow. The entire company only releases to keep it's stock floating, not to actually make games. When that happens you have to pray the company dies so innovation can actually occur.

You're committing to your rocket jump by using one of your 4 rockets to it and some of your hp to gain an advantageous position on the map compared to other classes. With Pharah you don't have to commit to flying at all, just press the jump pack button and you're good.

Kings Row, attacking the first point, I was Winston (the only tank on our team), enemy had two Torbjorns, a Widowmaker, Mercy, Junkrat and Mei. Balance is a critical issue in competitive games. This is because when competition is involved the playing field should be level. When it's not level due to certain metas absolutely dominating the competitive scene, it ruins the game when everyone follows absolute cookie cutters.
The only reason it is not a concern now is because everybody playing Overwatch is about as braindead as Team Fortress 2's influx of newer players. Once the competitive portion of Overwatch actually kicks into gear there will for a fact be nerfs for certain metas considered "unbeatable" or "unintended."
That is why it is a critical issue. It would not be as bad if it were not a competitive game, then it would only be limited to dumb bullshit like Dante's gun doing as much damage as his sword in DMC2 (which was also shit but I digress).
