I actually downloaded it a week ago to see what it was about.
Lot of furries. Lot of single mothers. Lots of traps.
I started just teleporting into peoples' homes and acted like I belonged there. I would put my feet up on their tables and start conversations with them like we were old friends. Some found it amusing while others yelled or barked (literally) at me. Got ejected out of a lot of properties.
I also got banned twice for bumping into people. People ingame are incredibly sensitive.
Overall, I found the community boring. The conversations were usually about food, youtubers, and sex.

Depends on what you are looking for.
SecondLife is a lot like EVE in that it's one of those old as fuck MMO-esque games that refuses to die because it lives in a very specific little niche that has zero meaningful competition. SecondLife is one of the best generic online sandboxes available even a decade later, and is honestly the best Adult content chatroom environment on the internet. People talk up WoW's moonguard server as being some kind of den of deep dark internet depravity, but compared to SecondLife it's nothing at all.
SecondLife also has very powerful content creation tools and it is surprising how good some things look in this ancient as fuck browser based environment that looked worse than PS2 games at launch and sometimes still does. You can sell shit to people, manage your own business, and the creative communities are actually pretty good. If you are good at scripting you can do quite well for yourself just modifying things for other people.
I find SecondLife to be really charming, yeah its filled with crazy shit-eating furries, but so is 4chan, honestly it is no worse there than it is here and to see that it is still going after more than a decade is pretty neat.
For the perverse out there if you're twisted enough to hang out on /d/ you'll probably find something to enjoy about SL.

Apparently Linden Labs is working on a VR-centric SL "sequel" no idea on how that will actually pan out.

Yeah, that basically sums up GE Gor these days. BtB is pulling hard for mainly Roleplay over pew pew. Most sims have at least two days a week where raids can't happen just to give people more time for RP, or have in their rules that there needs to be an IC reason to raid, instead of just popping in to attack randomly.
Also, think direct only is bad? You should see the new kool door features that can be turned on (Can't lockpick in mouselook, can't have run on, can't have a weapon drawn, and a few others.) GE are using those along with turning their sims into even worse fishbowls.
If you decide to peek back into Gor, some decent BtB places I've seen are: Turia, Svago, Besnit, and Laura(Which is still growing due to coming back)
I had some fun times making a big boss character and repeating everything they said as a question, the only time i had fun in that game.

If people are harassing you with RLV, use a relay that checks on if you want to allow something or not. Don't use TK's stuff or whatever get's passed around. Hell, the relays in Open Collar's gear would be better then most of the others out of the sheer reasons of safeword + the ability to check what is trying to interact with you and will you allow it or not.

Linden Labs promoted Second Life as some kind of amazing new digital frontier filled with early 2000's optimism about where the internet was going, where MMOs were going, and where digital goods were going.
