My solution is to just refuse to support a game if it has any microtransactions at all, including Battleborn and Overwatch, and sadly I'll have to add TF2 to that list soon.
Do you know why? Not because it afffects online balance in these games, but because it fosters an egocentric community of children who refuse to play the game and instead would rather jerk off to their reskins and cosmetics. Look at how many threads occur here on /v/ about Overwatch. None of them EVER discuss gameplay, and it's always posting SFM porn, or posting skins as if that constitutes any good discussion of the gameplay. And of course I need not mention how it's affected TF2, and how many idle/trade/minecraft servers I've had to add to my filter.
Microtransactions will forever be a bad thing, and I've seen enough evidence to know that this will never change.
