Both Delita and Ramza were stuck in a shitty situation. Its understandable that they might try to fight against the stupid nobility. But the way the story plays it out just seems so stupid. Which is pretty typical for FF games. It would have been more realistic if Delita just became a crazed killer. Not some guy who tries to follow this elaborate plan of kidnapping and calculated revenge murders.

After playing Suikoden II, the story in FFTactics seems pretty lackluster. Jowy is basically Delita with a better motivation to want to destroy the enemy by joining them. And basically achieves all his goals.

I didn't really get the story, I really didn't mature enough to get the themes of the story.
It wasn't til later I kinda understood what happened, but I managed to beat it still.
Still, for my first SRPG, I still think it's one of the best ones I played today.
I honestly think Tactics Advance are worse just cuz of the artificial difficulty of the laws/rules of battles.

Jowy's motivations were:
-He was the bastard child of a nobleman in Highland
-After he was labeled for treason, his family used the excuse to disown him; his father did nothing to stop the execution despite having the power to do so
-All the other nobility in Highland treated him as a commoner, especially since he kept running away with orphans (Riou and Nanami)
-He had a crush on Julia Blight from an early age and said he would become leader of Highland to get recognized
-He wanted to take over Highland and abolish the nobility anyway
Later on of course, he decides that infiltrating the army would be the quickest way to end the war. But he had a long list of reasons for wanting to do so besides just helping Riou and the cause.

The Black Sword Rune wouldn't let him be all buddy buddy, pretty sure it outright manipulates his fate specifically to make sure he's at odds with Riou as Bright Shield and Black Sword are meant to clash

I've tried playing FFTactics three times. I want to see how amazing this story is suppose to be. But the translation is so bad, I can't even understand what some people are saying. And the gameplay is so slow and poorly executed, I always quit. Did the PSP remake fix these problems?
