If it's game "content" like a secret character, it has to have different enough mechanics to be worth playing again, or the game has to have excellent replay-ability on its own. Just giving you a shitty skin for an RPG you're not going to play again for years is a shitty reward.
Something you can use during the game's single playthrough for getting all collectibles, like in Mega Man X feels really good for the player.
Otherwise cinematics are good. Alternate endings or bonus scenes or anything like that.

Ratchet and Clank did it best with their Insomniac Museums. Entire levels dedicated to showing off behind the scenes stuff, unused content, and random interactable things you could play around with.
Debug mode, or something similar. Pretty much give the ability for infinite health, change stats on a whim, free roam with the engine.

Depends what kind of autism you have to go through to get 100%. A lot of times a true ending is a wonderful reward if you don't have to go through too many obscure hoops. Of course the true ending has to be worth it. Radiant Historia immediately comes to mind in that regard.
