They killed final fantasy the second they strayed from the traditional rpg format and started pandering to current media trends only relevant in Japan.
There's over a decades worth of good will and fanbase built up around the first 10 games and maybe 12 at a push although It was to much of a deviation for me personally.
And they trample on it with every mainline sequel, mmo and spin off that they're too scared to not include in the ff umbrella purely too get as much money out of it as possible.
Rather than continue to improve and add onto the system that the majority were more than happy to keep paying for and playing they totally uprooted it and replaced it with a progressively uglier simplified parody of the gameplay, stories and character designs it used to have.

Go into games with realistic/low expectations and you'll either not be surprised when it's not that good or will be pleasantly surprised when it is, and it'll be that much better. The only time this strategy didn't work is with MGSV. I followed almost no news and went in with very low expectations and still somehow ended up disappointed.
I haven't really followed FF XV news. I read some stuff here and there, but not much. I don't even know much about the battle system, only what I've seen online and lately have been thinking it looks kinda fun. Still cautious though because I don't like most of what Square-Enix puts out.

Didn't effect my opinion of the game at all but I was disappointed at how shit they made the Titan demonstration by having someone do it that couldn't hold up under the pressure of performing in front of a huge audience.
