What's your favorite ARPG?
I'm really liking Grim Dawn
>>
Played an absurd amount of PoE these last weeks because of the new league and finally reached endgame with a HC character. Shit's insanely complex now and I'm loving it.
>>
>>341875504
what is an ARPG and what is the differences from RPG
>>
>>341875951
Action RPG. The focus is on action.
>>
>>341875504
same as you OP. I need an ARPG with controller support cause my right hand is fucked so pad is easier than mouse and i've put about 30 hours into Grim Dawn since last friday.

Anyone know any other controller supported ARPGs? already played victor vran
>>
I played Diablo 3 for the past week and my brain is fried.
>>
i thought for a moment, that this is mine thread xD
>>341873402
also, D2: LoD
>>
>>341875951
A stands for action, which doesn't really mean anything in itself, but most ARPGs are isometric clicking simulators with RPG elements, like Diablo, PoE, Torchlight, Titan Quest and Grim Dawn
>>
>>341875951
It should be called an Action Build Inventory game, it's not actually an RPG since you don't roleplay.
>>
>>341875951
>RPG
focus on choice, skill checks, dialogue and tactical combat
>ARPG
focus on fast-paced combat with a variety of character builds
>>
>>341876161
hidden path update? what's that? what did they add?
>>
>>341876225
also what >>341876206 said

I would't call games like Grim Dawn ARPGs. Something like Dragon's Dogma or Kingdoms of Amalur is an ARPG, Grim Dawn and others are honestly just Diablo-likes
>>
>>341875504
GrimDawn as well. Easily the best ARPG on the market. Too bad the game now suddenly crashes upon startup. I've been playing Diablo 3 the past few nights high and it's actually kind of fun.
>>
I've been playing Path of Exile for 3 years now but I personally prefer Titan Quest Immortal Throne the most

>godly aesthetics
>interesting yet simple classes
>great ost
>introduced the great mechanic of enemies flying farther the harder you kill them

I played a ton of Path of Exile. I was thinking about getting back into it again due to the recent update in content.

Thing is with ARPG's, they all suffer from pretty much the same issue. End game is just loot whoring to make your character better to no real end. Diablo II had great PvP that was insanely easy to jump into, but you don't get that in other ARPGs I've found, the PvP community is always too small and it always involves some instanced bullshit you have to que up for. Diablo II really did it right, join a game, fight anywhere you want in the world outside of town.

Path of Exile truly suffers from a lack of end game content. The maps you end up doing become the same ol shit and making a new character is only a good alternative the first few times before you realize you're doing the exact same thing but with different skills. I love ARPGs to death, but I think there's a point where you just grow out of 'em.

They are big on narrative and the helsing/ghost dynamic

I thought they were fun for a playthrough, the 3rd one isnt as good

I really tried giving it another chance before playing GD, but by the time I reach Egypt I was already forcing myself to keep coming back and when they dumped me into that Garden Area next I was already burnt and uninstalled it.

It's just so terribly paced and the items are boring

Does grim dawn have multiplayer? How is it?

I'm looking for a new comfy game to play, kinda interested but i would like it to have decent multiplayer.

>>

I would like Grim Dawn if the latest patch didn't fuck the game over so it crashes every few minutes and makes a hard reset necessary.

Shit coding to be honest, and crate entertainment seems happy to ignore people asking for a fix on their forums.

I don't play memebuilds.
>>

yeah, but it's a singleplayer game first and foremost.Multiplayer is basically just co-op of the singleplayer campaign with harder mobs and better loot, but it's fun.

I haven't played D3, but I'm having a lot of fun with GD
>>
>>341877050

I guess it does take a while to get going

Try playing it with the xmax mod and mod out the cooldowns to skills, that way it's basically 2x as fast with adequate challenge as there are 3 bosses at all times

The end game is great the first few times you get there in PoE. I would highly recommend at least getting there once to see for yourself. It's just when you get to the point where you've had several level 90+ characters, it gets to be nothing too grand.

People are finally starting to get it, videogames have been living a lie for 30 years because the ancient games that ripped off D&D and called them "RPG"s.

How's Victor Vran? I'm not a huge fan of APRG's but it looks slightly more interesting than others in the genre.

I found a blue bow 3 hours into the Greece map and it was the best weapon I found until I quit in Babylon. the loot system is absolute shit.

TQ has more content, more variation in setting and enemies, and more well-rounded classes. Grim Dawn has better atmosphere and graphics, but I prefer TQ.

Orther than that I'm ok with that list but Imho TQ=PoE, TQ is too much clunky for my likings.

Act 5 and the whole TQ was great but imo GD hasbetter atmosphere all around, mainly because of all the little details and care put into presenting the whole post apocalypse situation well.

>>

1 is very good, it's basically an open world ARPG done right.

Playing Grim Dawn right now and i feel like i'm playing it wrong.

i'm simple, so i just picked the soldier class and later added the demolitionist because i thought it would synergize well with me using ranged weapons mostly. instead demolitionist just has tons of active skills. i just want some good passives, damnit.

my combat style is now just shoot, then run away and shoot again. it doesn't feel particularly rewarding or fun.

You mean Inquisitor Martyr? How would loot even make sense there though.

Like what, you kill an Eldar - what are you even meant to get that you can use? They have nothing the Inquisitor would know how to work with or find useful. Same with a 'Nid, even if it's a X-generation Genestealer who is basically an unaware human I doubt a regular guardsman/whatever could ever have equipment befitting an Inquisitor.

Chaos, though... I know some Inquistors DO use chaos-weapons but that's only frowned-upon radicals who usually turn to chaos. That'd make sense I suppose.

It's a strange premise, for sure. All I've seen is the pre-alpha video with Enraged Pablo from last year/earlier this year where they discussed some of that stuff, and that cover is going to be a mechanic. Yes. Cover. Great.

They went over loot some, but I can't remember what they came up with.

Can we talk about how the skill descriptions in Grim Dawn are the absolute worst in any video game ever? No matter how often you read them, you'll only know what the skill does if you learn and use it.

That's why you read the Game Guide first.

i still dont know what the fuck constitiution or vitality decay really is and I've beat the game on ultimate as a blademaster

Constitution is your per-level health regen.
>>
>>341879459
I bought literally probably 10 copies of it for friends over the years

It's the most fun world I've ever played in a ARPG.

Diablo 3 plays the smoothest, but Sacred 2 was just simply a magical adventure. I used to wake up and drink coffee and hang out on the northern islands and just farm sunday mornings away. Sacred 2 was a fantastic ARPG, outside of the dogshit melee.

>only lists 4 skills per class
>descriptions are exactly the same as ingame

>constitiution
It's a limited out of combat health regen. Your health will rapidly replenish to full if you are outside of combat and drain your constitiution in the process.

>vitality decay
It's the DoT version of vitality damage, just like fire/burn, cold/frostburn, acid/poison etc.

Not the sharpest tool in the shed are you?

Read the whole thing, especially the "combat" section. If you don't understand the descriptions that means you just don't understand the mechanics.

It's not that I don't understand skills because I don't understand the mechanics, you dimwit, it's because THE SKILL DESCRIPTIONS CONSIST ALMOST ENTIRELY OF USELESS FLAVOR TEXT

>"You allow your body to act as a mortal vessel for the witch god Solael. The great one temporarily inhabits your flesh, bestowing upon you formidable physical prowess."

>"The first rite undertaken by novice Shamans is to imbue their favored weapon with the raw force of a thunderstorm. Those that survive this critical step become scions to Mogdrogen's will and guardians of their people. This attack requires a Two-Handed Melee weapon."

>"You allow your body to act as a mortal vessel for the witch god Solael. The great one temporarily inhabits your flesh, bestowing upon you formidable physical prowess."
Possesion is a skill with nothing but passive bonuses and active energy cost. The decription says it's supposed to improve your physcial prowness. it's crystal clear how it works.

>"The first rite undertaken by novice Shamans is to imbue their favored weapon with the raw force of a thunderstorm. Those that survive this critical step become scions to Mogdrogen's will and guardians of their people. This attack requires a Two-Handed Melee weapon."
Primal strike has a skill cooldown, long stun, huge damage bonuses and the decription says that i imbues your weapon. Again, crystal clear.

Not to mention the trasmuter reduces all of its effects in exchange for no cooldown, making it even more clear.

Congratulations on being super smart about this, but there is still no way to actually understand how exactly these skills behave without skilling and using them first if you're playing GD for the first time.

Mixing flavor text and skill descriptions is just bad practice, nobody does that aside from GD and TQ.

But there is if you understand the mechanics and know what all those listed bonuses actually do. I was never confused about any of the skills.

is good, but is more action than rpg.
you actially has to jump and dodge attacks, and there are a fuck ton of secrets areas, walljumping etc.

Doesn't change the fact that the skill descriptions are hot garbage.

I loved TitanQuest, and I loved Grim Dawn.

But honestly, no matter how deep my respect for those games is, I can't rightfully give the title of "favorite" to anything other than PoE.

I don't even play it anymore, but I did for a ton of time, and it did a great job of keeping me engaged and giving different things to play for. First it was dumb fun, then it was collecting cool gear for fun builds, then it was making a ton of currency on trading and wasting it all trying to craft perfect items.

Sure, I hated the devs a lot when they nerfed things, changed values, made my work and playtime worthless. But I still had fun for months, so yeah.
