What I think that Aonuma meant with "the balance of the triforce" is that the triforce of courage and the triforce of power are tied to a male hero and male villain. The only one that actually changes quite a bit is Zelda, but that's just because she has a personality. Having Zelda be playable isn't really that hard. Hell, just take an example of Wind Waker. If they could have done the whole explore under the ocean thing, then it would have made perfect sense for Zelda to explore down there while Link explored above the ocean. And things Zelda did below would open up new dungeons/triforce pieces for Link to find. Could have also made story related events for Zelda in TP and SS.

You miss my point. It's not that it would stop existing, but changing what body the Spirit of the Hero goes into defeats the whole cycle idea from Skyward Sword.
There are 3 set characters that are coming back every game; Spirit of the Hero (an established male as of Skyward Sword), Spirit of the Goddess (Goddess by definition is female, and established female as of Skyward Sword) and Spirit of Demise (an established male as of Skyward Sword). Those three spirits are destined to each return at the same time; Demise's spirit to fuck shit up and the Hero's and the Goddess' spirits to stop him.
What this means is that each time coming back, it's intended to be the same people. As such, the only time where it could canonically make sense for a female Link would be in a game where these spirits aren't present. At which point that character wouldn't be the same Link, it'd be basically an entirely different character and wouldn't just be "FemLink" anyway.

The entirety of the tower of the gods was to prove that he was worthy.
