Serviceable gameplay, generally good graphics especially for an open world game on consoles, a decent story with well written characters, many side quests that manage to feel unique with dialogue and choices, actual consequences for small/big decisions, fantastic music, and an alright conclusion to a trilogy for once. Also, if I remember correctly its biggest competition was Inquisition. If anything it did blow that out of the water.

They did just about everything related to a PC release near flawlessly, even with the downgrade (support patches that actually fixed shit and added options for gameplay and menu features, modding, free DLC, paid DLC that's actually worth the money, even patching in a new control setting that fixed the weird floatyness) while the story itself was a blast to play through, even if the combat was merely okay (and even then, it's not really bad, just has a shitty leveling system that makes everything a breeze past a certain point in the game.)

Well said, in fact I agree. At times I almost feel the 'game' gets in the way of the story but I still feel it helps with immersion and gives it a total score of around 7 or 7.5 which is honestly quite good. The Story is very well done and the graphics are pretty as fuck.

I wish people wouldn't use good games to shitpost or push platform war bullshit; The Witcher games are RPGs (CPGs?), and Souls/borne are 3rd person action with character progression elements. There's really nothing going on in the way of dialog, choice, or role playing. The story in Souls/borne is part of the setting, just an element of the backdrop. The Witcher is an RPG telling a story through the player's choices.
IDK why I'm explaining this, everyone on /v/ should and probably does know this. It's ridiculous that we have to have these kinds of discussions.

I started it yesterday and I love it. I still have to get used to the new combat and crafting system but the gameplay seems good and every side quest so far has been really interesting. I see a lot of criticism against it on /v/ but I feel like a lot of these people are either contrarians or haven't played the previous games (I don't know why someone would play this one first but I can't imagine they'd feel the same attachment to the characters or involvement in the story)

I'm really not surprised. I love Bloodborne, but it's not the kind of game that gets mass appeal awards. Anybody can get through a Witcher game, it isn't about challenge. It's about role playing. But very few of the people are into this kind of shit are going to bother to beat Bloodborne. They'll put it down as soon as they get stuck. People don't like having to learn from their mistakes and get better.
Dark Souls only got the amount of attention it did because of memes. "Prepare to Die" and DaS being the hardest game evar just kind of carried into the spotlight. Great metacritic, great reviews, lasting appeal. DeS and BB didn't enjoy such memery because they never had the hardest game ever label slapped onto them.
And before anyone starts, I'm fully aware that anybody should be able to get through Bloodborne or any Souls game with just some patience. But they won't. If there's no bandwagon, they won't bother.
