I remade a lot of my levels when the checkpoint update hit to make them generally easier and while they do get more stars, I feel like some of them were kind of worse off and now I want to upload the original versions.

It depends on the kind of level and how long it is. I've played a very long and difficult level once and nearly dropped it because the beginning made you use p-switches a lot, which resulted in your having to wait a lot in front of coin walls before you could proceed.
Also, how kaizo is OP's level? I really disike real kaizo stuff.

Basically, the first part used to be a lot harder, there was no checkpoint and the top path didn't exist. The second half is pretty much identical though, hence why I'm not sure whether I should bother.

My biggest gripe is that there seems to be no quality control. For every genuinely difficult level there are 10 enemy spam levels, 500 "troll" levels, and a good thousand NSMB castle levels with single block platforms as your primary means of travel with hammer brother placement that only the worst shitbag could have come up with.
Honestly, I don't dislike Kaizo levels. Guys like Poohbear and Carl (the autistic fuck) make them seem like fun.

To be fair, if Nintendo stepped in things would be far worse, just look at the damage they've already done with random level wipes and removing the ability to reupload.
I can beat super expert when I have enough patience for it.
super expert is complete shit though and that's only 6 fucking stages.

If you beat Super Expert and have not gotten all of the costumes in normal and expert, the game can give you a costume you could have easily gotten on normal

Basically Nintendo is taking a more active stance and is going on the warpath against anyone who uses glitches. Players with lots of stars have had them all removed and tons of levels have been deleted.
Combine this with one of the patches removing the ability to reupload, and the ability to star levels from your own console (which is fair), and it's pretty clear that Nintendo is cracking down.
