The first boss can be hard, I'll give you that, but you didn't need to grind for it. The game actively discourages it.

You only needed to grind one or two levels, which at the beginning of the game is really fast.

Get fucking good. gryphon is nothing. Lost Odyssey is GOAT. It's a JRPG that understands that combat needs to constantly change the circumstances to be engaging. Your roster changes all the time and I love it. GOAT JRPG.
Funny thing is the rest of the game is no where near the difficulty of those first two or so bosses.

I cant remember but the boss is weak to wind.
I didn't have too much problem with bosses until that battle with those guards on horseback. I went in, thinking my immortals were gonna steamroll these idiots, but all of a sudden their normal attacks were taking 80% of my HP. Last time I underestimated any fucking thing in my way.
