For a franchise that big I find the silence around ti deafening. Even TOR for all the infamy it got, at least got it's existence acknowledged.

After TOR big MMOs failing is the norm, it is not news.

That being said, I'm seeing companies take it in stride. They are starting to realize that they can't compete with WoW, but there is still enough market space to make steady profits off a dedicated customer base. They won't break the bank, but they'll break more than even, and it keeps copyright fresh for just the cost of running a server.

Really, if the game industry crash doesn't fuck everything we might see a return to smaller, more player driven MMOs. PS2 is actually growing in subs and is not tied to a big existing IP like Halo or CoD, it lives because shooting other people in huge fuck off battles is fun. Haven and Hearth got a graphical overhaul and is making cash for the guys that run it because making everything you own out of nothing scratches a primal itch.

Perhaps we'll see an MMO based around owning and running a business. BDO already has some elements of that.
