the guardians are from a war with robo ganon long ago

It would be cool if you could take control of the guardians later on in the game.

It's because it's a post-apocalyptic version of Spirit Tracks' Hyrule

Squidward Sword is the first in the timeline, and that game featured ancient technology.

That's pretty much a given seeing as how you see the ruined Temple of Time right from the beginning.

you can go an virtually straight up walk to ganon after you wake up. good luck trying to bead the end boss with an stick tho

Spirit Tracks Hyrule takes place in New Hyrule, where there is no Mastersword.
>>
>>341827383
>It's because it's a post-apocalyptic version of Spirit Tracks' Hyrule
Nope. It's very obviously the original Hyrule. The Temple of Time is the same one from OoT.
>>
>>341827616
They never said that. They just stated that it is possible to get to the final boss without uncovering the story. There's still probably gonna be prerequisites to finishing the game.

Aonuma never said this.
He said you can beat the game without experiencing the whole story.

Why is there the Bridge of Eldin there

What about the Temple of Time

Koroks are pretty damning evidence for post WW

It seems like it could be the timeline converging

>>341827870
I'm pretty sure that was the Great Bridge of Hylia.
Anyway, the existence of Koroks isn't proof that it's in the Wind Waker timeline. The Kokiri do not appear after OoT in any timeline so there's nothing that contradicts them becoming Koroks there.
>>
>>341827870
>Why is the Bridge of Eldin there
The Bridge of Eldin could have always existed in many of the games, just not TP. The geography of Hyrule is mostly malleable with many geographical landmarks changing place in relation to other landmarks. Or maybe after OoT the Bridge of Eldin could have been made by Hyruleans or whatever in every timeline.

>What about the Temple of Time
Temple of Time existed in OoT where all three timelines split from. So I don't really understand your point considering every timeline from that point would include a Temple of Time

>Koroks are pretty damning evidence for post WW
Yeah they do, along with the sea salt rocks. However, Kokiri could've evolved into Koroks in all three of the timelines, not just WW.

Basically, y'all need to stop looking into this so seriously. It's fun n shit to theorize, but at the end of the day Nintendo is gonna do whatever they wanna do and justify it.

So if this link has been asleep for a long time, which timeliness will this fit in? I'm guessing the majoras mask timeline. That futuristic ruins remind me so much of megaman legends. I fucking love games set millions of years in the future when humanity went back and lives among technology

During an interview, Aonuma said the Shiekah symbol on his shirt was the same as from Ocarina of Time and that Link was asleep for 100. Then he said "I wonder what that means?"

Right now I'm assuming that they don't think the Hero of Time has suffered enough yet.

>>
>>341827870
>Koroks are pretty damning evidence for post WW
Why? So sure we know this is the case in Wind Waker. But Kokiri have yet to appear outside of Ocarina of Time. I feel, as cart before the horse as it would be, that the Koroks are infinitely more likely to be the natural form of the Kokiri than their mutated descendants.

My reasoning as follows:
1) Kokiri call a magical demigod tree their dad, and it calls them his children. Everything else that acts this way is a member of the same genus: Great Fairies to Tatl, and Jabu to the Zora. And when the Zora start being birds, they start worshiping something that flies.
2) The Kokiri being an adaptation to fit into the human/hylian encroachment like in OOT's timeframe sure seems to me to fit better a transformative event than "We lived in a forest for a long time and became trees" since Kokiri were presumably living in a forest since their creation.
3) This lends to explaining the Kokiri's symbiosis with fairies in an ass backwards way. Why would Kokiri need guides to side around in the designated safe zone their whole lives? Why don't Koroks, who travel the world to seed plants in Wind Waker have them? The only point I can draw is the mechanical one that is worked into the tutorial in Ocarina of Time. That Kokiri need fairies to do things approximating human movement, like turning your head at an angle away from the front of their body.Something the Koroks can't do because they don't have necks.
4) If the race exists outside of the enclave the Deku Tree made, (which yeah is not a safe bet for BotW) I have a hard time believing they would be anything like the Kokiri. Playful, or lazy children dressed in green, who are assigned a guardian at all times.

>>
>>341827034
It's in the fallen hero timeline.

Link dies, the sages put him in a resurrection chamber and contain ganon in hyrule castle, the country falls into decline and leads to the NES games.

Aonuma has been going on about similarities to OoT and laughing about it so it's likely directly after that, and if Link has only been in the process of resurrection for 100 years there's no way WW could have happened in that period.
>>
>>341826590
A robotic Ganon would be a neat twist, but this appears to just be pure speculation.

Not to mention Aonuma strongly hinted that the game is also connected to Twilight Princess and that he recommended that people play TPHD and previous Zelda games in the series in order to find the "aha! now I see" moments in Zelda U's plot.

Not to mention there's murals like this in castle town. Each tile representing a timeline, which should be fucking impossible for a game that takes place AFTER the split, in the child timeline.

I bet that's the reason they removed towns and NPCs from the demo as well; too many familiar faces and locales hinting at a timeline convergence. Only the koroks managed to say in.

Despite a official timeline, zelda universe is fuck too open, its ages from game to game, like, SS is the beginning of time and WW is 100 years after OoT. The official timeline doesn't make any sense and it is there just to pease the fandom.
>>
>>341832064
Doesn't the child timeline lead to him leaving Hyrule following Ganondorf's banishment to the Twilight Realm? I thought that's how he ended up in Termina? And the Links aren't descended from one another, they're reincarnated. It's fully possible for a new Link to appear even if the previous one died without ever having children.
>>
>>341831810
Maybe this one is the Hero of Time's replacement for dying/disappearing in the downfall or adult timelines.

Guys, guys... What if this involves some time travel fuckery?
Like, you get sent back to OoT by the Sheikah to kill Ganondorf at birth or something and whatever you end up doing causes OoT Link to fail and die?

>>
The Koroks are the exact same as in WW
There was a great sea once
Ganon was sealed 100 years ago
Link has slept for 100 years
Everything is in ruins

I think that this takes place after Link fails to defeat Ganon in OoT
BOTW Link is an imperfect clone, created to let the spirit of the Hero be resurrected without having to wait for a "real" Link to show up again, but the process took one century
Hyrule is in ruins because of the Imprisonment War
Koroks are there because it happens at the same time as WW does in the other timeline, and Hyrule was temporarily flooded to try and stop Ganon but it failed so the goddesses let the waters evacuate, however this still led to most people leaving Hyrule for mountaintops & other nearby land while the sages fought to seal Ganon

The reincarnation doesn't happen every 100 years though. I think it has been 100 years a couple of times, but otherwise the amount of time is unspecified and implied to be much greater than just one century.

They'd need a clone to have a new Link to defeat Ganon before the seal on Hyrule Castle would break.

There's only been two Ganons bruh, he just keeps getting revived. Ganondorf from OoT is resurrected in practically every game after, except in one where he is reincarnated. Look up the actual timeline page from the Hyrule Historia. It specifically says he is resurrected/revived, not reincarnated. That's why Ganon has such a huge fucking grudge in TP and WW.

The route to Gerudo Desert is closed off, none are around, their leader was known to be executed, and one of their holy temples has been turned into a prison (which is empty and full of ghosts, skeletons, etc.) by the time you get to it in TP
>>
>>341834037
It basically went like this:
>Zelda 1, 2 with Link defeating Ganon then defeating Ganon's minions trying to revive him
>ALTTP introduces the Imprisonment War
>OoT shows the Imprisonment War, but adding Link to the lore, then the timeline splits at the end: in the future Ganondorf has been defeated & sealed, in the present Ganondorf gets imprisoned before he can do his coup d'état
>However, instead of letting the adult timeline be the original games and the child timeline be Majora's Mask and whatever they'd do next, they decided to have Wind Waker be the adult timeline instead, putting the original games in an unespecified bubble
>Things get even messier when TP goes off the child timeline and PH & ST go off the adult timeline while the original games make less and less sense to put anywhere, especially since Ganon's origins in ALTTP don't actually coincide with OoT anymore

>>341834539
A male Gerudo is born every 100 years but no one said he would be a reincarnation of Ganondorf. Ganondorf himself has always been the same guy except once. In OoT he first appears, in the failure timeline he remains Ganon and keeps getting defeated, sealed then returning, up until Zelda 1 where he dies for good. In the child timeline he gets imprisoned, then returns in TP, where he dies but is reincarnated in FSA. In the adult timeline he gets sealed, comes back, Hyrule is flooded, etc. and he eventually dies and never returns.

Let's not forget that two Links and two Zeldas can coexist too. The Hero's Shade in TP is OoT Link, while Zelda 1 and 2 feature the same Link but different Zeldas (Zelda 2's being the ancestor of Zelda 1's).

I actually wonder why BOTW can't happen after Zelda 2.
>Hyrule Historia implied Hyrule's decline which started with Zelda 1 would end with its people fighting each other for the Triforce, and the country is as desolate as possible in BOTW
>No Ganondorf, only Ganon, and he's become ridiculously powerful and more like a mindless evil entity much like in the first two Zelda games
>Game's logo is the same as the one for Zelda 1 in the Japanese release
>Master Sword is all rusty because no one has used it since ALTTP

>Regardless of his efforts, Link got killed in Zelda 2 and his blood was used to revive Ganon
>BOTW Link is a revived Link from Zelda 1/2, after the Sheikah retrieved his body, but the process took one century

What about the people praying for a savior and Link never coming, thus massive flood?
>>
>>341826471
If this is a drained hyrule from Wind Waker then what caused said draining?
>>
Let's make this clear: it happens in the failure timeline. This is Ganon, not Ganondorf.
>>
>>341836031
Hmm that's an interesting thought. WHY didn't a new link appear like usual before the flood?
>>
>>341836339
Because the Link of that time period fucked everything up by going back in time, stopping Ganon from taking over Hyrule, and basically making a new timeline without a chosen hero. This is why the Link from Wind Waker has no actual ties to the reincarnated hero of legend: he was just some random schmuck that the King of hyrule found who happened to look like the hero.
>>
>>341836316
Wait, there are three timelines?

>>341836060

ganondorf wins in this one

The Downfall timeline.

It's the dumbest of the lot and the reason why so many people hate the Zelda timeline now.

Apparently its a "what if" branch-off of Ocarina of Time, where if the Hero of Time is defeated by Ganondorf, it results in the failure branch.

Just read up on it via google or some shit.

>>

How is that any different from child timeline, though? I mean the outcome is still the same. Wouldn't the Goddesses flood Hyrule regardless?
>>
I was thinkin the old man was the king of hyrule from windwaker

. But if you think about it, the Ganondorf from windwaker was all tired and weirdly sentimental. Maybe the old man is both Ganondorf and *not* the badguy because hes been separated from the demise spirit after he was defeated.

And now, somehow, we're back in flooded hyrule where he was abandoned.

>>341837254
In one of the IGN streams, you can hear the Hyrule Castle theme when he approaches you to talk about calamity Ganon.

It's the King.
>>
>>341836957
Adult timeline: Link defeats & seals Ganondorf then goes back to his time. Ganondorf comes back, the spirit of the Hero does not exist in this timeline anymore, Hyrule is flooded.

Child timeline: Link comes back from the future, and reveals Ganondorf's intentions. Ganondorf gets imprisoned.

Failure timeline: Link dies while fighting Ganon. Ganon ends up being sealed by the sages anyway.

The failure timeline is necessary because although OoT was supposed to represent the Imprisonment War of ALTTP, it ends up being too different (Ganon goes back to being Ganondorf, there was a hero to fix things up in the first place, etc). Wind Waker also decided that Hyrule would be flooded after Ganondorf's sealing by the sages, effectively undoing ALTTP and Zelda 1&2, so to let these games remain canon a third timeline had to be made.

Ganon couldn't exist before Ganondorf. The timeline went like this:

>Zelda 3: A Link to the Past (prequel to Zelda 1)
>Zelda: Ocarina of Time (prequel to ALTTP, shows the Imprisonment War)
>Zelda: Majora's Mask (direct sequel)
>Zelda: The Wind Waker (sequel to OoT but happens in the future or "adult" timeline)
>Zelda: Twilight Princess (sequel to OoT but happens in the present or "child" timeline)
>Zelda: Skyward Sword (prequel to the whole series)
>Zelda: Breath of the Wild (???)
>>
>>341838992
In the lower left corner of the Zelda 2 World Map is a region that purposefully was designed to evoke the Zelda 1 world map. It's to show that that entire game was just a fraction of the world of Hyrule, since Zelda 2 was all about being a "bigger and better" sort of sequel.

In lore, it also makes sense since Zelda broke up the Triforce of Wisdom into 8 pieces to hide it from Ganon. That area fits such a role: it's secluded enough from the majority of populated Hyrule so as to not endanger her people, but small enough that it would be believable she could accomplish her goal.
>>

I really want to like Skyward Sword. I want to finish it. I always think about trying to get into it again, but the faults just keep me away.

I really like the IDEA of Skyward Sword. I like the upgradeable equipment, the different shields, collecting materials on your way to the dungeon, solving people's problems in those mini sidequests, and the concept behind the motion controls and even the art style. I like all of these things when I think about them.

It's just that the actual game surrounding these things is just so flawed I cannot bring myself to finish. It's so mindnumbingly boring and hand-holding. Fi is one of the worst partners in terms of her dialog. The tutorial and the forced and funneled story segments are so grating. The back tracking is unbearable. It's Zelda on rails. Which is a shame because it has some of the better design choices in the series (and removed some of the best design choices in the series).

I don't think they cut something out.

I think it's intentionally left in there to indicate that this Link's memories have been wiped, or that he has amnesia of sorts.

Because we see a second cut like that later on in the trailer, with a guardian eyeing Link down.

I mentioned this in another thread, and it's REALLY head canon but, I theorize it's because of the Triforce splitting, rather than just time shenanigans.

Each line is caused by one of the Triforce wielders.

Downfall Timeline caused by Ganon killing Link

Child Timeline caused by Zelda sending Link back in time.

Adult Timeline caused by Link beating Ganon.

Makes some sense to me, but hey I'm just a simple dude.
>>
>>341833138

The things he did as a kid weren't known to hyruleans, only to whoever followed him and he saving it from Ganon was part of the future timeline which was essentially made null once he exposed ganon as a kid, he besically went from hero to "that testimony kid".

My guess is that it has something to do with Calamity Ganon.

Fi couldn't contain the remnants of Demise's essence and it was released out of her, result in the Master Sword's decay and Calamity Ganon's power to a certain degree.

Nintendo tried to break the Zelda formula and failed miserably because they were too afraid of alienating their core audience. Hence the whole Fi hand-holding bullshit and tons of boring repetitive puzzles that are little more than point A to point B bridges.

I don't think Nintendo is going to figure out the free roaming open-world design correctly with BotW, but it's at the very least a complete dedication to a new style instead of the half-hearted attempt in SS.

But Koroks!
What if the Koroks were ALWAYS going to take that form, and this game just happens to take place at roughly the same time as Wind Waker?

The Sheikah, obviously.

Actually, ever since BoTW's reveal, people in the lore threads have been claiming that the Sheikah are pretty much becoming Zelda's version of Illuminati.
>they created the Lanayru desert ruins

>they mined and crafted the timeshift stones

>Hyrule Historia states that the Ocarina of Time is made out of timeshift stone, so they created that as well

>Sheikah tech in BoTW looks a lot like Twili tech in SS

>you can find a Sheikah eye symbol on the back of the Fused Shadow

>this means that they created the fused shadow and that some of them branched off to become the Twili

>they then likely created Majora's Mask as well since both it and the fused Shadows came from a "shadow" tribe and share similar eye designs

>the tech also looks like the strange tech from used to create the Temple of the Gods and Ghodan in WW, so they were responsible for that as well

>and don't forget the Sheikah stones, the Lens of Truth and the Mask of truth, all items created to keep an eye over Hryule's people...

>Oh yeah. And the Shadow Temple. That was also their doing in lieu of working with the Royal Family during the civil war.
>>
>>341841212

Kinda implied that in my last point, but okay.

Makes me wonder if their kinship with the Royal Family is just a facade.

And that they were never really extinct.

Sure, there were pockets of them that managed to live in secret villages like the ones on TP, inevitably forgetting about their pasts as a race of ayylmao magi-tech people (kind of like the Twili)... but that the majority of them are still out there.

They're just living within different plane of existence entirely. Always watching. Always backpedaling the cycle and ensuring the hero's success or the disasters of the world for whatever reason.

Either way, it's all starting to add up now.

It gets better, but it does take its time at points. Certainly a lot more.. cinematic and wordy at times than Wind Waker.

>>
>>341842532
Time is convoluted in Hyrule

it's the remnants of some other Link's gear, or what happened 100 years ago.

Actually I'm pretty certain now that the game will have some kind of Dark World mechanic where we travel 100 years into the future or the past, and its accessed by that goddess statue in the Temple of Time.

This would explain why Aonuma removed the towns, why there are ruined guardians everywhere (they'll be active and well in the past) why the temple of time is in ruins and the like.
>>
>>341842774
>I played it up to the first dungeon and it's just unbelievably boring.

It's because Link himself is Shiekah technology or at least magic, his essence flows through it so hard it breaks. He does more damage with enemy weapons than the enemies do with them. You can confirm this by watching the videos and checking stats.

I'm not buying it, the old man seems disappointed that you didn't recognize the woman's voice.
The clothes you get in the Resurrection room are just slightly too small for you, implying they used to fit at some point.

Nothing really lines up with the whole clone/robot/creation/etc. theory I keep seeing.
>>
>>341842407
At the very least this is clearly a post apocalypse game because of Link's awakening.

I mean really, his being locked away until woken up in a time of need just indicates that by this time, major players (sheikah, the royal family) are 100% wise to his necessity to defend the land from Demise, and so the current incarnation (for whatever reason) was locked way until he was required.

This is blatantly obvious, especially by the inclusion of the Koroks, who were the ones to 'remake' the land via the subquest in WW.

I'm half-imagining that Ganondorf personally got into Hyrule Castle to seize the Triforce, fatally wounded or even killed Link in the process, and then with no hero to fall back to, the Sages evacuated the town as best as they could (god I don't want to imagine what the build-up to the final dungeon would be like if there's still people trapped in there) before sealing him in it. 100 years later and with his power ever-growing due to the Triforce of Power, we still don't know if he shed his mortal body to become Ganon as a raw force of destruction, or if he may've split himself off from his power to escape and perhaps become the Old Man as people are theorizing.

Sure, you should. But keep in mind that it's opening segment is horrible and that the wolf segments are bother. It gets better later on.

Aside from that, it's pretty good.

I also recommend ALtTP and MM. Ocarina of Time too, but that might come off as dated to you; it didn't age as well as MM in the game department, or that's what I hear younger players and fans say.

Basically, only bother with these:
>Ocarina of Time
>Majora's Mask
>Twilight Princess
>Wind Waker
>A Link to The Past
>Link's Awakening
>A Link Between Worlds
>Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seaons
>Zelda 1

The rest aren't worth bothering with.
Oh, and if you're gonna play the N64 ones, emulate them. Make sure you get the original uncensored version of OoT as well. The 3DS remakes ruin the tone and atmosphere of those games.

Thing is, this being WW makes sense because Ganon was sealed in Hyrule in that timeline. When the Oceans dissipated for some reason, he may have escaped and became that spiraling evil circling Hyrule castle.

I imagine someone might have used a triforce wish to resurrect Hyrule or something, and that in turn revived both the King and Ganondorf when it unflooded the kingdom.

More and more it seems like aliens made hyrule to test life. But the life they produced rapidly evolved to quickly (time shift stones) so the triforce was dangling on a string infront of hyrule which put then in a perpetual 'dog chases tale' where nothing ever progresses and the land stays as it was.

The shiekah actually have no strong link to the gods, they just fantasied up the real story. Hylian family are merely a sheet to cover themselves over so people don't grow suspicion.

All of Zelda is just aliens fucking around like people fuck around with ants.

Aren't Gerudos also suppsoed to be known as super bad asses with bows too?

And horse back riding?

But they are?

I fucking love Monolith Soft. I loved Xenoblade Chronicles, and I had mixed feelings for Xenoblade Chronicles X, (although I eventually forgave them and accept the flaws) now we get to see what they're capable with in this new Zelda game.

Also, WHEN ARE WE GETTING A NEW MONOLITH SOFT GAME? WILL IT BE A SEQUEL TO XBX?
>>
>>341845212
i remember SS having demos in store and from that someone ripped all the text from the game

the entire story was known before the game even came out

naginatas, twin scimitars, archery, horseback...

they're feared for a reason

But what does that make Hylia/Zelda?

Zelda is the incarnation of a goddess. Sure, not nearly as powerful as the main trio, but at least she is of demi-god status and comparable to Demise.
>>
>>341827034
I like Skyward Sword as a better placement. Maybe add some contuity between it and OoT while stretching out that part of the timeline even longer.
>>
>>341845318
looks like a wiiu game.
>>
>>341845406
only the first zelda was hylia's reincarnation

the rest only share the "blood of the goddess" since they're all descended from the original

STOP!

It's not a sequel to Zelda II, and here's why;

The Master Sword in the end screen of Skyward Sword matches the clip at the end of the trailer. It's just that the temple has eroded.

It's obvious that it's a sequel to Skyward Sword, if the art-style didn't give it away.

The Koroks are just Kokiri before they took on the form of children. They give you seeds so that you can plant their trees somewhere, which I'm guessing will become Kokiri Forest or Minish Woods.
>>
>>341845424
Ganon is confirmed and OoT was his origin. Has to be post-OoT unless you want a retcon.
>>
>>341845405
Well... look at BotW link, how easily he can handle spears and archery and horseback...
And other weapons too...
>>
>>341831767

Yeah, and its retarded because nintendo only made it because faggots like you kept arguing about it.
>>341831786

Sure. Thats why the BoTW eldin bridge is different to TP's. I guess they rebuild it many times and gave it a different name LMAO. And koroks have the same exact appearence so I guess they are immortal. Nah, theres no logic and no timeline, faggot.
>>
>>341845532
as much as I want the series to move away from OoT I think I'd prefer it over being so close to SS
>>
>>341839845
Those were mostly stable time loops. OoT was just multiverse theory made by changing the future result.
>>
>>341835901

>>
>>341845651
yeah but link the chosen hero of the goddess who wields a triforce piece

maybe the triforce of courage is what allows him to master all weapons so easily
>>
>>341826471
Great plateau is the kokiri area

The Temple of Time was in the lost woods in TP, and that's right outside where you start in BOTW

Hyrule Castle to the north, Death Mountain in the north east like in all zelda games
>>
>>341842289
That's some assassin's creed bullshit
>>
>>341832060
They are arguing about shit though. Instead of accepting that each game is disconnected and the official timeline is bullshit. Sure, you can come up with many illogical theories to prove that a timeline exists so whats the point of discussing that? To prove that one bullshit theory is better than the other?
>>
>>341845780
Thats the problem.
We know nothing almost on what happened to the triforce in BotW.
>>
>>341842407

>>341842407
>All this SeekerTech makes it seem like the Zelda world was always post-apocalyptic

A good deal of the games pretty much are post-apocalyptic though? Or at least take place after an era of great calamity and destruction.

TP - after a golden age of Hyrule's History
WW - post-apocalyptic, after the flood
LoZ1 - post apocalyptic thanks to Ganon's reign
OoT - just 10 years after the Civil War
MM - is literally a catastrophic apocalyptic event
ALtTP - takes place some time after the Imprisoning War
SS - post-apocalyptic, fallout after Demise ravaging the surface
ST - took place hundreds of years after Malladus ravaged the land
>>
>>341846306
in the failure timeline ganon obtained the full triforce, turned the sacred realm into the dark world, fought a war against hyrulian troops got sealed in the dark world by the sages

doesn't fit
>>
>>341846306
He also said that it would have direct connections to TP.

...which is in a different timeline.

This is the game where the timelines converage ala Lothric form Dark Souls.
>>
>>341843053
Sure, why not. He always just appears in places and he never seems to have any parents around. The exception being Wnd Waker where lion boat actually says that this link has no connection to the hero of old.
Link being planted in places as a sleeper agent sounds cool. This time around they had no option to let him blend into some village due to the calamity.
>>

There's an official timeline that may or may not be bullshit depending on who you ask. But you have to accept that there's a fanbase who likes talking about timeline theories and lore stuff, and they have no impact on you and you have no impact on them. There's no need to try and tell people "stop trying to solve this puzzle." If you are right and the puzzle truly doesn't exist, them trying to solve it cannot possibly have any impact on you or your enjoyment of Zelda now can they? Live and let live.
