I find that people who play Nier first get kind of ruined for the rest of the series. Going from Nier to Drakengard will have you expecting a way different game. Well, this boss footage has better patterns than any of the bosses I remember from NieR already. The bullet hell stuff in NieR was neat but wasn't really much of a challenge. The bosses in general were more about the spectacle than challenge.

At the start I was more interested in Scalebound because it is Kamiya's project, and being a fan of his works, I automatically gravitated toward it, the game is also an Open World ARPG with high-octane combat, something pretty damn rare.
But Automata is quickly winning me over, mostly because they have showed much more footage for it, and said footage exhibited a higher level of polish than all Scalebound gameplays did.
I'm still excited for both games.

I sort of agree with this. If you've watched his GDC talk, he has some really unique ideas and thoughts on game-making and videogames in general. A game might be considered art if it's emotional or fantastical or whatever, but Taro's games feel way like way more "authentic" experiences. No amount of fancy graphics and expensive voice actors crying are ever going to make me feel as emotional as this single song does.

I would recomment EDF2017 instead, but it's really dated by now.
So you're kind of stuck in the middle. More content (including classes) but fatal errors such as frequent unplayable framerates and not being able to aim with any vehicle, or a better but older/simpler version of the game

EDF4.1 is a remaster of EDF2025 with even more content, such as more missions and the lovely giant mechs you see in pic related, and with a lot of fatal flaws fixed and well as a sweet and dramatic lighting system where a big explosion leaves the whole place in burning warm colors with contrastic shadows, it really adds to the enjoyment.

Same thing happened to me, it isn't a problem with your hardware just the emulator itself. PCSX2 is far from perfect and all those glitches are a result of that. I don't think software mode fixes the stuttering audio but I think it fixes the vertical lines.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret...
If you REALLY want to get into the series, hardcore, you need to see Yoko Taro games as an experience, rather than something you play to feel engaged. The real binding nature of these games is Yoko Taro's madness creating some really unique shit you don't find elsewhere in the gaming industry with that level of purity. I am the kind of person that values gameplay over story immensely, yet when it comes to Yoko Taro, it doesn't matter how often the game drops into the single frame rates, it doesn't matter how shallow the combat is, it doesn't matter how tedious fishing or farming are or how absurd the RNG rate is on the egg, I'll play them through to 100% completion every time, because his is a setting that is worth it for the madness alone.
Frankly for a short time there it was some kind of perverse mark or badge of honour for Yoko Taro fans when his games weren't given particularly high grades by reviewers - he basically has a cult following, so his games will always have a consistent measure of success so grades don't matter much.
Nier had serviceable gameplay at best, but what really sold it to the mainstream was the EXPERIENCE. A lone parent fighting to save his daughter in a tragic world to a absolutely wonderful soundtrack, and the ultimate realization that even if you do recover your daughter, tragedy is still inevitable.
D3 had the ideas for good combat, but the optimization and level design was so poor that it suffered as well, but ultimately everyone was still there for the absolute batshit madness that would inevitably occur.
This may very well be the first game where we may be able to fully appreciate the combat aspect AND Yoko Taro's madness on full display.

Nope, I tried looking for a solution online and got nowhere. It's possible I missed one but I really couldn't find a solution. If you absolutely want to fix it then you have to buy a PS2 and the game. There really aren't very many FMV's and they are usually pretty short, most of the story is delivered in game and there were no audio issues in game so you can at least take solace in that.

Visceral feedback. Blood and lights help to tell the attack has hit, but hitpause makes the attack FEEL like it REALLY HIT.
Obviously it depends on the enemy and the weapon and the game. In Monster Hunter for instance, the effect is used sparingly, for really devastating attacks like Greatsword Level 3 or Smash Charges, but not for individual weaker hits.
For a gigantic enemy made of metal though, two slabs of metal striking together, it can feel that teensy bit more visceral when hitpause happens because you really get that feeling of CLANG.

If it isn't enough for the characters and the setting to draw you in, if it isn't enough to get immersed in the utter madness that is the Yoko Taro experience, you may be better off playing other games that better suit your tastes than diluting what is ostensibly a cult fanbase.
Then again it may be interesting to see what happens when a cult fanbase gets diluted by people who are drawn by actually good gameplay, but I get the feeling it'll mostly boil down to constant repetitions of basic questions about the lore because people can't be arsed to play earlier games for the story rather than the gameplay, and the fanbase getting divided into people who came for the Yoko Taro's madness, and people who would like to enjoy the madness but can't understand why the games can't also have good gameplay.
And this is coming from someone who typically values gameplay over story. Yoko Taro's games are the sole exception to me.

Is it really a twist when it was done in the first game? If they do go the same route, I doubt it will be used as a shocking twist and more just glossed over before we move on to whatever the REAL twist is. Like perhaps normal humans are still on Earth, but have regressed to primitive caveman tech, worhsiping the robots as gods.
