I worked in for the last year or two. Honestly m8 it changed so much in that time that we were just a reskinned Game. To the point where they were bringing in Game managers and staff in to shops to mould them more like Game. And suprise suprise they were all cunts.
It's an insignificant thing I know, but the one thing that pissed me off the most was changing the music. We would play game soundtracks (because, you know, GAME shop, and all the customers fucking loved that) all the time, management came in and forced us to play top 40 chart shit. I know it's not a big thing, but it was just a small part of how much they really ruined the culture of the place.

On the last day we were open a bunch of employees from Cex came into the shop and started picking up the reduced stock and saying 'wow, its still cheaper in our shop'. Then they started fucking chanting like football hooligans. Ordered FF8 for PC from them, I can remember it arriving and playing the shit out of it (it was summer hols) from about 11am to 11pm.
I actually ended up getting FF7 by accident. Went into an independent game store near to my house and was looking for Baldur's Gate. They didn't have it but they did have FF7 for PC so I picked it up and it became one of my favorite games of all time.
This same game store was owned by a couple of bros who were pretty interesting, I can remember them showcasing the Voodoo 2 3000 card to me and my brother, showing off Unreal 1. We both thought it looked godlike.
