How come there's no thread discussing this? This is the best game to come out of e3 this year
>tfw already pre ordered collectors edition
I fucking hate you Todd. But I loved the first Dishonored so much.
>Zenimax-published games are okay
>Internally developed ones are garbage
I wonder what the fuck is going on there.
>>341769539
Bethesda is stuck on an ancient engine because it just makes things easier for them.
Just keep piling shit on that engine like Call of Duty
We've had a dozen threads about it already.
It looks great.
Dishonored 1 was excellent, easily the best game of the year and one of the best games of the last generation, if not THE game of the generation.
Looking forward to the sequel.
Still sucks that they're re-using Corvo and Emily rather than going with new characters with their own story
Delilah is back, what the fuck?
Etc
>Show gameplay for a game
>It comes out 6 months later
Why?
>>341770323
Did they add fun to non-lethal playthrough this time around?
>>341770573
Non-Lethal was always fun, but they're adding in gadgets to go Non-Lethal like in the DLC. You can also drop choke people now.
>>341770573
Looks like it.
Also, no-power mode
>>341770656
No power mode seems like complete tryhard bullshit for people who absolutely despise fun in their video games. But then again, having more choices is always good and Dishonored has been pretty easy anyway.

> Is this ability also usable on terrain to pull yourself to it?
Yeah, functionally it's a slightly slower version of blink that can be used to pull shit over.
>>341770717
Emily was a pretty tough kid in the first game, and she's been raised by Corvo. I don't think it's out of the question to assume she'd be pretty cool herself.
>>341768624
>Tell The Outsider to fuck off with his mark and its powers.
Alpha as fuck.
As for the storyline:
>The Outsider is the source of all the magic in this universe.
>The whales of this universe feed magic to the The Outsider.
>Demand for whale-oil skyrockets so they're killing tons of whales.
>This results in The Outsider dying from lack of magic.
>You replace the The Outsider at the end.
There must always be a The Outsider.

Shut the fuck up. I'm so tired of being disrespected on this goddamn website. All I wanted to do was post my opinion. MY OPINION. But no, you little bastards think it's "hilarious" to mock those with good opinions. My opinion. while not absolute, is definitely worth the respect to formulate an ACTUAL FUCKING RESPONSE AND NOT JUST A SHORT MEME OF A REPLY. I've been on this site for 4 years: 4 YEARS and I have never felt this wronged. It boils me up that I could spend so much time thinking and putting effort into things while you shits sit around (probably jerking off to Gardevoir or whatever furbait you like) and make fun of the intellectuals of this world. I've bored you? Good for fucking you. Literally no one cares that your little brain is to underdeveloped and rotted to comprehend my idea...MY GREAT GREAT IDEA. I could sit here all day whining, but I won't. I'm NOT a whiner. I'm a realist and an intellectual. I know when to call it quits and to leave the babybrains to themselves. I'm done with this goddamn site and you goddamn immature children. I have lived my life up until this point having to deal with memesters and idiots like you. I know how you work. I know that you all think you're
"epik trolls" but you're not. You think you baited me? NAH. I've never taken any bait. This is my 100% real opinion divorced from anger. I'm calm, I'm serene. I LAUGH when people imply I'm intellectually low enough to take bait. I always choose to reply just to spite you. I won. I've always won. Losing is not in my skillset. So you're probably gonna reply "lol epik trolled" or "u mad bro" but once you've done that you've shown me I've won. I've tricked the trickster and conquered memery. I live everyday growing stronger to fight you plebs and low level trolls who are probably 11 (baby, you gotta be 18 to use 4chan). But whatever, I digress. Source?
From my understanding it's more like
>Outsider is a magical/evil-ish entity with really strong powers
>Whales are related to magic somehow, but they sure as fuck aren't helping the Outsiders.
I remember an audio diary or a book in the first game mentioning that whales are actually guarding the world buy blocking evil entities (including the Outsider?) from entering it.
>As humanity keeps slaughtering whales, Outsider's ability to manifest himself becomes stronger. He imbues people with superpowers so that they spread chaos, making him more powerful.

I mean, him betraying you was pretty much obvious since the beginning and the twist really was that the betrayal only grew up on him along the way and that it was just him seizing the opportunity. It was expected, frankly I thought it would happen earlier, I even thought ''well it's about time!''. It was fair game, but he got carried away and failed to plan enough ahead.
Samuel betraying you would have been great and unexpected.

Chaos Emily for some fuck shit up fun and learning the levels once they are devoid of all life, then Big Bossing through was Corvo for some proper completion.

I am. I'm ridiculously obsessed with the first game, I played it a few months after its release and ordered the tarot cards and whale oil lamp just because I'm that autistic. I have the normal edition + DLC, Game of the Year edition (for the sick poster that comes with it alone), and the Definitive edition. I have platinum trophies for both PS3 and PS4. I even got the Dunwall Archives "art book" which is just in-game art copy+pasted next to in-game notes.
No way I'm missing out on the Collector's Edition of the sequel, or the comic miniseries or short novel series.

>>341780146
I'm planning on
>Emily, High Chaos and stealthy
>Corvo, Low Chaos
>Emily, Low Chaos
the rest is probably just how I see fit. I've played through the first game 20+ times so I'm sure I'll eventually try out every permutation and combination. I'm very interested in the "Only Flesh and Steel" run that they've announced, where you can literally tell the Outsider to fuck off and go through as a human.
So one thing I never understood about this game - is the Outsider god, or just some weird aphysical spirit?
>>341789667
The second thing.
>>341787421
Dunwall City Trails are pretty fun in my opinion, if you're a completionist then getting three stars on all the challenges and getting every trophy is a huge pain in the ass but if you just want to fuck around with the game mechanics then it's excellent.
The Daud story DLCs are usually considered superior to the main game gameplay-wise. It's harder, Daud's powers are more interesting (his Blink and Pull are very fun), and I personally prefer the level design. Delilah's Masterwork is my personal favorite mission in the entire game, the level design is completely unlike the rest of the game and Delilah is an interesting and intimidating target. Dishonored 2 sounds like it'll be taking a lot of what people loved about the DLC such as the voiced protagonist and additional non-lethal options, so it'll prepare you for D2.
>>341781587
Harvey seems to be a cool guy who doesn't really give a fuck about playtesting or making the game accessible to everyone. He's been vocal about not "dumbing down" Dishonored and adding more of what people enjoyed.
My only fear is that it will be even easier then the first game. Obviously the first is easy, especially once you get Bend Time 2 or Agility+Blink 2, but playing on max difficulty still made you go down in about two gunshots, making enemy mobs very dangerous. Emily's Domino power seems like it could make taking down any target trivial, just connect the target to a waitress and toss her out a window. But I suppose the same can be said for Bend Time so who knows.
>>341790078
>the level design is completely unlike the rest of the game and Delilah is an interesting and intimidating target.
Also, the witches and ghost dogs are strong enough to make it feel like you're actually in danger if you get detected. This is something pretty much every other Dishonored level lacked. I have very high hopes for the robots in Dishonored 2.
>>341789667

I find it hilarious how every game with a female protag still needs to have an alternate male protag because of all the insecure boys who don't want to play as a girl.
>>341791209
Right, that's what I mean. While the gameplay itself isn't necessarily hard, the game doesn't hold your hand and lead your to exactly what to do. The only example of playtesters being too retarded so they had to change the game is Harvey talking about how some players refused to go upstairs during Lady Boyle's Last Party because the guard tells you not to. So during that level NPCs constantly talk about sneaking upstairs to find clues, which is a pretty heavy-handed way to tell players to sneak their ass upstairs.

Go away, Anita.

Not when both protags and their storylines end up shallow as a result.
>>341791837
Same thing with Assassin's Creed Syndicate, instead of committing to a female protag they had to give her a twin brother or all the dudebros would have refused to play the game.
>>341792087
>but there are like 2 other games where this happens!
Yeah, and way more where it doesn't. Just fuck off.
I just hope it has more interiors.
Dishonored 1 had a nice amount, but so many doorways were just blocked off.

storing bullets would make them slower or too big to sneak around.
The question is why the fuck doesnt tall boys use a rifle alongside their bow.
>>341792250
Name a popular game with a female protag and no male alternatives that isn't Tomb Raider.

>>341791654
what game? like tomb raider, heavenly sword, siberia, nolf, metroid or bloodrayne?

Nah that's the whole reason you can still play as Corvo, so insecure boys don't have to feel uncomfortable.
>>341792645
>mfw it actually sells less because no Chloe
>>341792768
Never even heard of those except Tomb Raider, where Lara Croft is marketed as a sex object so hard specifically to compensate that, and Metroid where you originally play through the whole game thinking she's male (and she might as well be afterwards too).

Look we can meme back and forth all you want, but being serious the truth is it's still hard as fuck to sell a story-heavy game with a female protag, or even to get someone to publish such a game if you develop it. For instance all the publishers wanted Dontnod to change their protags to male for both Remember Me and Life is Strange, and if you've played LiS you should know how retarded that is. And publishers don't do that out of sexism, but for commercial reasons. Are you seriously going to tell me you don't know the kinds of gamers who would refuse to play as a female protag because that's gay bro?
This is obviously the reason why games like AC Syndicate or Dishonored 2 go through all the trouble of offering an alternate male protag.
>>341793265
Let me guess. You've got a $100 razer brand gaymer gaming mouse, don't you?
>>341793898
It presents the classic situation of whether or not killing someone is justifiable in the long run.
>>341793898
you're telling me that branding the inquisitor who'd mark people so that they become untouchable nobodies with the very same mark isn't more satisfactory than killing him?
>>341793898

>>341793886

Removing the Pendelton brother's tongues and throwing them in their own silver mine is some how more justifiable than not straight-up killing?
>>341794493
Yes, because you didn't kill them and Jesus says that's okay :^)
>>341793898
>mark the tyrannical leader of an oppressive, militant religious faction with the symbol of an outcast, leaving him to wallow in an abandoned part of town and slowly die of plague
>have rich twins be kidnapped and shaved, their tongues cut out and put to work in their own mines for the rest of their lives
>have a powerful aristocrat kidnapped and used as a sex slave by some maniac "until her clothes turn to rags and her hair goes grey"
>reveal the crimes of the throne's usurper and leave him to rot in prison for her crimes
>escape custody and infiltrate the base of one of, if not THE most powerful and dangerous person in the world and literally steal his wallet, so when he notices it's gone he knows that you could have easily slit his throat in like five seconds
The non-lethal paths aren't mercy, you're literally making your targets lives a living hell. Some of them deserve it, but honestly the Pendletons and Lady Boyle probably don't.
>>341794023

>>341794023
history proved that it doesnt work
and to this day, it still doesnt work. Nobody care about rise of the tomb raider or bayonetta reagardless of their quality.
It's publisher's greed that make them refuse fem protag and studio's stupidity that make them refuse to see the reality of female protag.
But nevertheless the market is more open to a serious female protagonist than ever before. The problem is nobody want to make a woman with all the weakness and advantage of a woman. It is either shallow power fantasy or shallow drama.
>>341795108
If you really feel that way, you now understand what everyone else feels when talking to you.
>this thing that only applies to 3-4 games is totally in every single game with a female protag
>people bombard you with games where it isn't the case, since there lots of well-received games with female protagonists

>>341795630
Story-heavy games with female protags that aren't just eye candy or have their gender hidden from view and with no male alternative? I can literally only think of the two by Dontnod, and it was a huge hurdle for them to find a publisher who wouldn't force them to change that. Well and Lara Croft was a decently fleshed out character too, but like I said she was marketed purely as a sex object to ridiculous extremes because that was the only way to make dudebros feel like it was ok to play that.
>one of the last few genuine stealth serious out there

SPOILERS OF THE DLC BELOW
>Saving the daughter of the Empress he killed totally doesn't count though, right?
Plot told in the last minute of the dlc ,Daud is obsessed to hunt Delliah from the beginning because she wants to kill him for no reason(or because HE began hunting her)
And then she said she wasnt expecting him, sounds logical.
>There are maybe 5 witches in the second level of the second DLC and zero in the first
I have no complaints about those missions,i liked the hatters/pirates setting.
>Complaining about enemies that actually pose some challenge
Stabbing at the back of the butchers was a piece of cake ,but i dindt even had to because i had mines and grenades.
Hounds were more difficult to fight than witches, until you learn how to easily kill them .
But they are mot difficutult to begin with,Overseers with guns and magic boxes were more dangerous .
>>341769786
TES and Fallout's failing have far more to do with Beth's complete and utter incompetence.
I wish there were more options to confront targets after stealth. When i was in the high protectors tower before you get betrayed i wanted to just stand there in his room and wait for him to turn around.
>>341796895

>>341797220
See, you have to try something else if you want a different reply. With that, you're still expectedly evasive.
>>341783692
It's actually less difficult than you'd think, and exposes you to the level design a lot. On my first powerless run I found so many parts of the levels I would never even try going to when I had blink that gave me access to rooftops/high ground through climbing.
It forced me to see more of the levels without the utter tedium that is a 100% run.
>>341796495
>we went from " every game with a female protag" to "what I personally consider story-heavy, what I personally consider popular enough, and the girl can't be what I personally consider attractive"
>he actually believes Dontnod's bullshit guilt-tripping marketing campaign that has no evidence whatsoever; and they had the business sense to pull it off twice in a row because it easily gets SJWs riled up and is just a victimless lie
Go ahead, name some games with male protagonists in popular story-heavy games who aren't attractive, their gender isn't hidden from view, and there's no female alternative. I'll enjoy this.
>>341797524
Why are you evading the question?

Because the Pendletons arent the slavers and the guy wants to hurt her so bad and didnt love her ,right?

This has the potential to be one of the best video games of all time in my opinion. The first Dishonored is up there, but if they improve on some of the flaws of the first game i.e. the rather short length of the main campaign (granted, the absolutely fantastic DLC makes up for this) and the slightly too easy difficulty I'm sure it will go high up on my list of favourite games.
Also, my first playthrough will probably be as good ol' Corvo. On a side note, wouldn't it be fucking cool if it turns out Delilah tricked Daud into trapping him in the painting in the void instead of the other way around and you can find a painting of Daud somewhere in Dishonored 2? Maybe you can even free him or get the choice to kill him as Emily or Corvo to get revenge on the murderer of the Empress or potentially gain him as an ally.

Because the outsiders thing is that he never directly influences anything. Just gives people otherworldly powers and advice on what they could do.

I hope upgraded Far Reach lets me do something similar.
>likes to spread chaos around the world
Made up bullshit. His intervention is reduced to minimum like giving powers to a few selected ones. In fact, Dishonored 2 will feature even less these people unlike Dishonored 1
>demands more killing only for his amusement
Never demanded that. Show me a single proof.

wrong he gives powers to people who interest him and they do with it how they will and he observes.
Who wants to bet that the Void is fucked and the Outsider may or may not have been weakened in some way, allowing Delilah to take control of the void after having been sealed in it because low chaos is canon.
>>341814104
Literally what.
First of all, Daud kileld Delialah.
Second, you can't "weaken" the Outsider, he is part of the Void itself and the Source. Even if you somehow manage to do that you will weaken your own powers (provided you have any at all).
>>341814313
>Daud killed Deliliah
Nah
>>341814391
>"Daud interrupts the ritual and battles Delilah, with two possible options for elimination: Daud can kill Delilah outright, or force the ritual to go awry by replacing the painting of Emily with a painting of the Void, trapping her there."
We won't know (if it ever will be addressed in D2) what is the canon choice but either way Delialah is fucked.
However, it does bot matter. He is nowhere close to the power level Outsider is on. He finds her fun to watch but no more.
Oh boy. Thanks bioware! :^)

>>341818737
Because if people here had the attention span to read more than the headline, they'd know he was just saying that gay people would be more than background NPCs or journal entries. And if people actually played the first game, they'd know there were already gay people whose homosexuality meant something to the setting of the game. Like the Curnow guy who had to abandon the love of his life to avoid getting killed, or the conscripted zealot who has a huge dilemma between his religion and his sexuality. Neither of these are things you would know unless you bothered to read the books or use the heart.
Of course, /v/ wants to be /tv/, so people are of course acting like both protagonists are fifth gender whalekin who talk about their flaming homolust constantly and that this is the game's main selling point.
Yes, I mad.
>>341818737

They would never make a live action movie, but if they were to do so, Tilda Swinton is LITERALLY Delilah from Dishonored 1.

>>341821768
Because Erica Luttrell is The Rock of video game voice acting. She can do pretty much every race pretty well, and she can do both crazy and calm.
Laura is only good at white girls, which isn't bad, but was a poor choice for that particular character.

How blind can one person be?

I hope we run into a retired, meditative, sort of grizzled veteran Daud in D2.
Spent 15 years feeling like shit for what he did and mostly lives quietly in a modest home, using his powers here and there to help people for free as a sort of vigilante seeking redemption.
Then, Corvo and Emily are in a jam. Say, surrounded by 12 people playing the overseers music, bound to chairs, about to be killed.
They start to get picked off one by one but you can't see what's doing it.
Then the lights flicker and you see one figure silhouetted, walking towards the two of you and this song hits
https://youtube.com/watch?v=cM5sj4fcT7o
>"Hello bodyguard"
Then he helps Corvo & Emily reclaim the throne. Bonus points if Corvo never told Emily Daud killed her mother. For some intrigue and deception along the way, maybe with Emily finding out and having the option to kill Daud or not.

If the High Chaos ending from the first game is Bioware's canon, then there's no way Daud could be alive because Corvo would have ended up killing him in the duel.
>>341823618
Could be the antagonist
Could be a tertiary antagonist
Could be a cameo
They're picking a canon continuity for 2.
Fair to assume that means Delilah was trapped in the painting.
In this world full of outsider magic and whale oil energy, is it such a fucking stretch that someone that was trapped in a painting through a ritual could also get out? No, its not.
Calm down and stop overreacting about a game that isn't released yet, you absolute mongoloid.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just saying it's not fair to discredit what they're doing with 2's continuity because Invisible War did the same thing poorly years ago.

Non-lethal as Corvo for playthrough one. Lethal as Emily for round 2.
>>341827468
I like the story itself, the dialogue is dry though. I feel that's an important distinction.
The lore, setting, plot and atmospheric are top notch. Its just the interactions between characters could be done better.
Im sure that'll be somewhat ameliorated by the fact that the protags are voiced now and Corvo is voiced by THE FUCKING TAFFER HIMSELF.
Also like how D1 was meant to look like pastel drawings and D2 is reminiscent of an oil painting. Next gen but sticking to the aesthetic and finding a way to make it fresh.
So jolly
Since the thread is full of stealthfags, I gotta ask.
Is anyone here able to bring themselves to be a lethal fag on their first playthrough of stealth games? I always reset if I kill anyone on my first run since it feels like I'm playing it wrong. I have no problem being a murderer for reruns though.
>>341828129
Stephen Russel's voice will fix any filth Arkane could produce. All of the world building is great, but all of the performers sounded bored when delivering almost anything in the first game.
>>341828234
I try reserving no kill runs for subsequent playthroughs. Anything goes on my first run of a game.
>>341828360
You better be forgetting Michael Madsen right now. Him voicing Daud was the standout performance of D1. He did such a good job of portraying that character.
>>341828559
I just got done replaying the DLC. His performance is one of the best I've heard in a game, but there were still a few lines that sounded like they needed one more take. But hell. He even saved the few scenes he appeared in in The Walking Dead S2.
>>341828846
Sure, but I feel that's the voice director's fault, not his. If a take isn't perfect it's their job to have the VOs try again. I suppose that speaks to your point though, they need to crack the whip in terms of dialogue and the way it's expressed in game.
At the same time though,"I know a great deal, body guard. You're a mystery, and I can't allow that.

I did ghost the last level in Dishonored though on my first playthrough.
