A friend told me a Zelda game could never have an older Link because the only way Ganon vs Link is a fair fight is if Link is young and inexperienced, and an older Link would bitchslap every single evil thing on the earth without breaking a sweat. Is this true? I don't know anything about Zelda's lore.
>>
>>341749448
Power levels fluctuate in Zelda, but we've never seen a living Link past like 17 years old I think, so there's no telling how he would develop his powerlevel. Virtually all Nintendo MCs are stupidly overpowered though.
>>
>>341749448
Technically you are old Link in BotW.
>>
He can still be inexperienced despite being old, especially when it comes to adventuring and fighting. What if he'd just been living on a farm for his entire life?

OoT Link had a hard life. :\

Twilight Princess has the dead Hero of Time and he'll fuck your shit up, so I would believe that he got good before he got old
>>
>>341749448
he's only strong when he's old because he gets the triforce when he's young

if he were 50+ but had never had any reason to go on an adventure and become powerful he'd just be a regular guy
>>
>>341750043
>>341750089
Yeah he was strong, but I don't really see him as an accurate portrayal of an old Link due to his undeath and ambiguity as to how old he was when he died.
>>
It could never have a old link because its a game for kids and kids can relate more to youngsters. kid link to young adult is the only link you will ever see for that reason.

I don't know.

That doesn't sound like Link at all.
You think he would give a shit whether or not people forgot about him and his deeds?
I mean he always did selfless acts of heroism, why would he suddenly start seeking fame?

I'm PC bruv but I grew up will all the Zelda's up to Twilight Princess. Hugely overrated games with one of the most autistic fanbases to ever exist. Find one faggot, gurl gaymer, or virgin weeb that doesn't lick Zelda's corporate clit brah. Zelda 2 is the only one worth a damn and at least it's too hard for the autists that like Zelda games so they leave it alone bru
>>

Even a selfless person can be regretful of the fact that despite everything he did for all those cocksuckers he met, he was likely never more than a footnote in their memories if they remember him at all.
>>

more like fangirls who make up 45% of the Zelda audience wouldn't buy the game if Link wasn't a twink.

You get old and I'm guessing if he did get with Malon, she probably left him due to his self-destructive tendencies like still looking for Navi. He was probably all alone and not even the people he had sacrificed so much for gave a damn about him. Yeah, I would lament on that shit on my deathbed.

The oldest Links have been shown to be the most battle-hardened throughout the series, with Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask Links having multiple previous titles under their belts. They tend to do a good job slapping the shit out of anything that moves as a result, on top of having an endless thirst for adventuring.

>>341751003
He had a shitty situation all around.

>lost childhood and all his friends due to plot
>saved the world and had it undone by Zelda
>Triforce of the Narc on Ganon and lost Navi
>Termina shenanigans
>somehow made it back to Hyrule to a Zelda that only had his word about what happened in alternate timelines between OoT and MM
>ends up as an undead due to regrets in life

He was basically the hero that wasn't a hero in a sense, since the time travel eliminated most things from ever happning, and the powers of the mask undid all of Majora's antics based on the ending sequences.

If Link was actually experienced and super powerful it kind of undermines the whole courage theme.
Same with Shadow of the Colossus. It's impressive because you're a boy challenging fables and legends. It'd have less of an impact if you were indeed a grown man suited for the task.

For the most part yes. Link's arc in most of the games is he is an immature and under equipped kid who goes out to save the world using only the power of courage, growing stronger and learning new skills along the way until he's finally ready to battle against Ganondorf. They especially hit you over the head with this in more recent Zelda games, with the best example being Wind Waker.

Changing this up wouldn't necessarily break Zelda, but it would be a Majora's Mask-tier deviation from the standard story structure/formula the games are known for.
>>
>>341755040
Because the point of most of these games is a game where you character starts weak and slowly gets swole, i don't think there is a game that does anything interesting with that concept

I can only somewhat recall DMC or Azura's Wrath

I'd like to see a story where Link is thrown either into a coma, or is stuck in a meditative state for a long time.

Start the game playing as Teen Link, have the player go through a small adventure that acts as a tutorial. Then have something happens and he wakes up and he's all bearded and such.

Have Ganon be no older than he usually is depicted- having used dark arts to prolong his age and such, amass power.

Link wakes up in a version of The Temple of Time where the last remaining good guys have been hiding out protecting his body. You awake to Ganon's forces having finally found your location and is killing off the priests as they battle to keep you safe.

IDK what else happens from there or how the world will be. This is all just off the top of my head. I haven't beaten many zelda games so my understanding of lore is sparse and the dynamic of time might be off.

But yeah an old link would be cool. Snake got cooler with age. I'm sure link could too.

Zelda fucked him over because she reversed time to give Link a proper childhood, meaning literally everyone but the Kokkiri forgot about him.
He stopped being a Goro, Ruto stopped having a crush on him. All his friends, all his adventures. Shit was ruff.

Everyone forgot what Link did but the Kokiri who blame him for the death of the Deku Tree.
>>341754260
Link gets over Navi at the end of MM though.
>Yfw Link was frantically looking for Navi because she's the only one who understands the deep grief Link feels.
>>
>>341759303
actually i think the tree lives in the revised timeline, or is it just that link exposes ganon?
>>
>>341759303
what the fuck happened to navi anyways
>>
>>341750828

He basically lived an impressive life and beat literally every problem he faced, saved lives, and became a hero.

Then Zelda said, "Lol u shud rly b a kid" and then somehow reverts time and shit, turning you into a literal who kid. No one knows you, you have nothing. Can't really say what she did was really a gift.
>>
>>341759554
Anything prior Link meeting Zelda still happens in his childhood timeline. Ganondorf cursed The Deku tree before Link even begun his adventure.
>>341759721
I don't know, maybe went and became a great fairy herself. Maybe tried her hardest to forget about the Deku Tree's death and ran way from the Kokiri forest.
>>
>>341756558
How did Majora's mask deviate from the structure? I mean, you lose your powers at the beginning but other than that it's a standard "grow powerful, stop evil" history.
>>
>>341759063
Yeah but they're usually buff or manly looking dudes.

Link is pretty feminine for male MC standards.
>>
>>341759867
I mean, other than losing all of your friends, fame, power and influence I still think it's pretty dope he got to keep all the experience from the adventure. You can bet Link was rich as fuck, Malon really hit the Jackpot with that kid and only because Saria has to eventually become a sage, we all know Link is a lolicon
>>
>>341749448
How long does it take to become a stalfos?

Would Link picking up the master sword and becoming older just quicken the process?
>>
>>341759975
It is exactly the same formula except this time it includes a clock.

Some things happen at a certain time, on different days, and require some kind of progression

Honestly, this and the mask quests are one of the best hings of MM
>>
>>341760084
not for the Japanese
>>
>>341759975
What, How did Link lose anything? The only thing he lost was his human form and that's just the prologue. If anything, the bosses from Majora's Mask are probably some of the strongest in Zelda lore which shows just how strong the hero of time is.
>>
>>341759303
I wonder if Link sorted out the gorons and zoras as a kid or if someone else did it. Arresting Gannondorf doesn't magically unfuck those places. Unless it does I dunno

It's been awhile since I played Ocarina of Time, so can someone explain to me why Link ever had to sleep for seven years and kill future Ganondorf? Couldn't he have just immediately shanked Ganondorf as a kid and saved the world?

What did beating Ganondorf in the future ever accomplish? When Link goes back in time, that Ganon is still around?
>>
>>341751658

that's not really an old link though that's like some dark god trapped in a mask that you can jack the powers from to steamroll majora
>>
>>341760617
>King Dodongo never revived and Jabu-Jabu never got infected.
But those things had already been done before Link gets to the castle to talk to zelda.
>>
>>341760545
Lacking depth perception is probably a pretty big disadvantage in combat.
Then again there's probably no human who could face the hero on time.
>>
>>341760839
But without Ganon providing them magic they probably died.
>>
>>341760826
He can't even use an adult shield and you expect him to wield a sword almost as big as he is?

>When Link goes back in time, that Ganon is still around?
Yes, then he tells Zelda, the King of Hyrule and Ganondorf gets executed but because the Future Ganon is super strong, he didn't got killed but trapped in the light realm for like 100 years or something like that.
>>
>>341749448
Provided he acquired the master sword and triforce at a young age

>>
>>341761209
They try to execute Dorf but because Link had the Triforce in the future it splits in the past as well, with power going to Dorf thus preventing the sages from finishing him off.
>>
>>341760545
The Hero's Shade only has one glowing eye, which implies he lost the eye while alive.
>>
>>341761209
But what's the point of going into the future and doing all that shit and sealing future Ganondorf away, when he could have told Zelda and the King of Hyrule right away as a child right before he draws the Master Sword?
>>
>>341760826
the final leap back through time was purely for links benefit, as it created a second timeline where ganon never even got the triforce in the first place.
>>
>>341760826
iirc zelda and link's original plan was to get the first 3 stones and have you fight him as a kid but you fucked up somehow and he got access to the triforce so you try to pull the master sword out of the stone but you're not old enough to wield it so you get sealed for 7 years until you have a body fit for the hero of time

It might actually be cool to have a game set with the idea that Ganon returns or comes later than intended, and by this point, Link is an old man.

His relationship with Zelda is more father-daughter, and Ganon constantly mocks Link for his age and slowness.

And then link kicks his ass anyway so he can get back to setting on the couch talking about 'kids these days'.

He doesn't marry Malon. This is never stated anywhere and TP doesn't provide any evidence for this pairing. The ranch is in the wrong place, Link doesn't own it which he would if he was Malon's descendent, they don't raise horses or cows but goats, and Link is the only Hylian in Ordon, everyone else is a normal human. So does Ilia. That doesn't really mean anything. Hell maybe Illia is Malon's descendent.

Or Link taught it to Illia. I don't really support the theory, just saying there is a piece of evidence in the game.

Nah, if anything Link is always at a disadvantage concerning power levels.
Ganondorf is an 8 foot tall muscle wizard that's immortal to everything except the master sword.
Link is a baseline athletic human who's only advantage is he's the only human capable of wielding the weapon that can harm Ganon.
There's a reason Ganon has the triforce of power and Link has the triforce of courage.
