Japanese acting leans more towards theatrics, which serves animation well. On the other hand, American actors are better at displaying the subtleties required in live action. And just like that error, no, not every show startd (meant to write start) with an excessively long recap. It becomes even more obvious that they were a budget as opposed to a creative decision when you look at the fact that they all recap the same thing, they all explain the same things. It's not a short "hey if you missed last the last episode(s) here's what happens" deal, it's "let us explain the entire fucking show, week after week after week". Something that would be hard to accept in a complex show where complete understanding is crucial, but in this there is no reason to keep it aside from budget balancing.
Still frames and reused animation are very much prevalent.

Oh, I agree with this. In the beginning, I thought I was watching something fresh, different, and unique, and with a certain mystery to the setting. Somehow, the writers managed to make "plot twists" cause the show to settle into cliche, while simultaneously losing all the mystique. I'll watch the next season to see what happens, but I've already been disappointed.

A big part of it for me is the lip syncing thing. Anime and games have mediocre lip syncing either way, but it's painfully obvious in live action. I mostly watched subbed anime though, it's games I don't give a fuck about, I don't really play them for the plot or anything anyway.

Why are the VAs that localisation companies (or whoever else is doing it) hire such complete trash most of the time? I almost always play/watch with subs instead of dubs because reading and listening to unintelligible babble is vastly more pleasant than having to pay attention to the crappy English VAs.
And I don't mean that in a 'muh superior nippon acting' way either; the VAs are just terrible and wooden all the time.

They have no budget and good VAs cost money. English dubs are done with a person speaking into a mic alone in a room. Japanese dubs have the entire cast in the room for a scene talking to each other, have a much larger budget, larger talent pool to pull from and have the script writer there for the dubbing process. Japanese dubs are objectively better unless the English dubs have the same circumstances.

People really don't seem to understand that localisation is basically a business for vultures, whoever can cut their costs by the most while profiting off the actual work of real developers does the best. No that's not the same logic at all. Rpgs existed long before voice acting and they were still great. A lot of text in rpgs still isn't voice acted, only big plot points. For example in persona, only major characters are generally voice acted and even then only in story scenes. The rest of the game is fine with no VA and the entire game would be fine with no VA.

99% of the time the original VAs are superior due to them directly working with the creators, possibly as the content itself was being produced. Any dub after the fact is a subcontract of a subcontract done for pennies.
