I've never finished a horror game and never played a Resident Evil, should I buy the HD remaster of 1?

12 bux on steam and I got $3.75 in me wallet

RE1 is a great game, even if you're not into horror. I've never been a fan of the Amnesia / Outlast approach, where the gameplay borders on that of a walking simulator. But the early RE games have tense combat, some clever puzzles and great atmosphere. Maybe wait for a deeper discount if you don't know what you're getting into, but I'd absolutely recommend it.
>>
>>341745019
yeah its great, a lot of RE fans even regard it as the best. Its basically a super atmospheric game where you and your team are stuck in a beautifully designed mansion and have to make sense of all the shit that is going on in and around it.

Also I remember it was quite scary as a kid but I dunno if it holds up in adulthood on that front, but its still a great game
>>
>I've never finished a horror game and never played a Resident Evil,

might as well start with a zinger

do it

You're picking the best one to start with.

Those are actually the horror games I quit on, good to hear that this is different.

Welp

have fun

Save infrequently, and rotate your save files too. It helps.
>>
>>341745937
those games suck ass and they follow the philosophy to leave the player completely defenceless, which imo is utter shit

games like RE and Silent Hill give you weapons, but you'll still shit yourself with the horrors you'll encounter
>>

Thanks, anon.

>Infrequently
Man the RPG player in me is gonna have trouble with that.
>>341746363
Hopefully I'm more compelled to finish this then, sounds like I will be though.
>>
>>341746363
KEK people act like amnesia is oh so scary because you cant fight but having to deal with a crimson head (dont google it OP) for the first time was FAR more fucking scary

Hell yes.
Best RESI game, a brilliant remake of best kind, and the port's fine too.

consider giving the Silent Hill games a shot too. The best ones, 1-4, are on PC:

SH1 NTSC DDL:

SH2 DDL:

SH2 torrent:

SH4 DDL:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

I'm in the same position. It's 12 dollars on PSN too. Only problem is I'm a little bitch when it comes to horror. Should I just face my fears and play the fucking game?
>>
>>341745019
It's a great start and one of the best Resident Evil games ever made, yes,buy it, anon.

I recommend playing Silent Hill 1/2/3/4 too if you can or Resident Evil 0 first.
>>
>>341747545
yes.
>>
>>341747107
Yeah, saving is tied to a limited resource you need to find, so don't go waste them every 10-20 minutes of gameplay
>>
>>341747107

Ammo is kinda scarce, you probably won't run out unless you're firing all your bullets into a wall but you probably shouldn't be too gung ho.
Also when the game asks if you want the backgrounds in 4:3 or widescreen, pick 4:3 because widescreen just stretches the fuck out of them and makes them look assy.
>>
>>341747504
I'm still mad we never got a Silent Hill 1 remake made by Team Silent.
>>
>>341747545

it isn't that scary

Silent hill 3 didnt work for me on PC with windows 10

Collecting ammo didnt register. Just a heads up

>>341747545
Dont be a fag, RE1 remake is glorious. Wish i could play it for the first time again
>>
>>341745937
sale next week mind
>>
>>341747107
play as Jill for a more forgiving experience

though, I'm not sure if they tweaked the difficulty modes on this re-release
>>
>>341747725
Ah that explains it, thanks for the advice then.

>>341748087
It'll be on sale again probably but I doubt it won't be the same price, I haven't seen that happen before.

Fuck it. Downloading now.
I'm waiting til it gets dark to play it though.
>>
>>341747872
why?

it's still a solid game and in terms of game mechanics and controls, it doesn't differ much from the ps2 games
>>
>>341748320
Only because of the dated graphics, something like REmake for Silent Hill could be awesome.
>>
>>341748549
I actually like the outdated visuals of SH1: It helps the uncanny atmosphere of the thing.
>>
>>341748204
They only added a very easy difficulty, everything else is the same
>>
>>341745019
This is the scariest game I've ever played.

t. a total wimp when it comes to horror.
>>
>>341748204
Playing as Jill allows you to explore the mansion and kill most monsters as long as you're not shooting at the walls.
Playing as Chris requires that you know at the start where most of the items are, where to go to fight as less enemies as possible, and to avoid most of the slow fuckers rather than killing them, as otherwise you will have to risk cutting your dick with the shitty knife.
