I play a bit, get a feel for the culture, the kind of naming conventions, the character's immediate history and social status, then come back if something good occurs to me. Otherwise i just go with the deault name or Alex - short, fast,not used as often as you'd think and the general interpretation is pretty much the clear cut hero-.
