The problem for Nintendo is that there is no blue ocean left. Sony, Microsoft, and PC have the core audience locked down, and the "new market" that Nintendo courted with the Wii all defected to phone gaming. Nintendo has no-where left to run, and now they seem to be hitting the self-destruct button.
The NX is likely going to be a re-branded Wii U the same way the Wii was a re-branded Gamecube. They will market it as a "budget-friendly" system, except this time they will replace the Wii U pad with a different gimmick that lets them keep the cost low. It's probably going to fail but they don't really have any other option, because they are such a technologically inferior company to Sony and MS.

You're 100% right, but the idea that consoles are going to be measured by how many teraflops they can push is stupid. Teraflops are very rough approximations of power, and just because one machine has more than the other doesn't mean it's more powerful.
When nVidia and AMD release specs for new GPUs they literally mean nothing because you can't predict their performance based on clock speeds, core count etc. You have to wait for reviewers to benchmark them to see how powerful they are.
The same applies to consoles. The cost of the console is a more accurate way to determine it's power.
