It's very apparent that the 2014 screenshot was prerendered or something, even without the extra bullshit in OP's image.
My biggest gripe with the game's graphics is half the time, there appears to be some hideous brown smog that muddies up the whole image, as if they're trying to go for some sort of realistic look. However, what it ends up doing is conflicting with the cel-shaded art style. This game is nice to look at when it's not present, but that doesn't occur very often.
If they removed the shitfog and maybe increased the contrast, and gave the grass more definition, I think it would look really close to the 2014 screenshot.

People were upset that Watchdogs looked undeniably ugly AND they promised "YOU CAN DO ANYTHING" and you could only actually do a couple things and it honest to god felt lazy. People were a little perturbed at the Witcher 3 downgrade but it still turned out to be a legitimately great game with some great visuals where the love and care from the developers really showed because of how high quality mostly everything was. Also the game was pretty much was they said it would be so no one really felt lied too. I don't think anyone didn't expect a downgrade for Zelda and while I'm not saying it's okay to to that, the game itself looks really really cool and fun so people are looking forward to it.

It was actually working in real time. The difference was, they didn't have any other processes eating performance. No enemy AI, no tracking, none of the mechanics that make a game a game. they had a very tight shot, of a controlled area, with canned animations. By trimming all the fat, they were able to fit more detail on screen.
The "downgrade" you see, is when all the gameplay aspects start coming into play, and they need to sacrifice graphical fidelity, in order to keep performance stable.

Dunno. Horizon for sure looks more pretty to look at, the animations were really well done too, and combat seems alright.
The footage we got kinda implies that's all the game has to offer at its core. Go place X -> shoot robots -> go place Y -> shoot robots + story. And I doubt there's anything for you to explore in between outside of crafting material. I imagine there's also gonna be a lot of generic side-content Far Cry style.
Game looks great though, but I still need to see more footage than a 9 minute video specially made for E3.
Zelda had a lot more to show. It doesn't do anything new, but it mixes a lot of elements we've seen before. Climbing, stealth, gear, exploration is actually a thing, combat looks fun, puzzles, dungeons, ton of other small stuff.
Zelda had more showtime though.

1. The first image is edited from the original, heightening the saturation and fucking around with the colors. The overall colors of the screenshot below look grayish and washed out. I'm not exactly sure why, but looking at actual screenshots from press releases, they game still has the fidelity of bright colors that it had back in the 2015 trailer. I'm gonna chalk up the lower screenshot being washed out due to the face that the building he is on is already gray/brown, and that the things off in the distance are behind a kind of smog or mist to give them depth (you can see the same kind of smog in the background of the top screenshot.
2. The top screenshot is taken from an official screenshot that was rendered at a high resolution, while the below screenshot is taken from either directly the stream or a youtube video where it has been compressed and the quality has been massacred. Hardly indicative of the graphical fidelity of the game.
3. The above screenshot has many complex objects close in the foreground, whereas the screenshot below has simple stuff on the top of the Temple of Time and the rest of the shit is far off in the background, so naturally the graphics will degrade.
I know that the post is clearly bait and the picture is cherry picked, but I feel the need for an actual response is required in case anyone who reads this actually falls for this shit and believes it.
I don't know for a fact whether or not Nintendo has degraded the graphics, and neither does anyone else. The only way to tell will be to go to the area in the top screenshot from the original E3 2015 showing once the game is released and compare the two. From what I can tell looking at direct screenshots (pic related) the game looks the same.
That being said, I've actually always thought that if a company needed to downgrade graphics in order to make room for more content, I'm fine with it. Graphics are hardly the most important thing.
