You know you have to battle a Pokemon blind first, right?

This is a vast improvement, it's not gen 1/2 where every type is basic, so many are ambiguous because of all the dual types.

Look at Flygon, you have a Ground/Dragon type that looks like Flying/Bug.
>>
>>341667925
why? FF tells you enemy weaknesses since the nes era. Same with SMT and others. It's convenient that's it.

>>

>>
This is the most autistic thing I have ever seen. Pokemon is a game designed for CHILDREN. Many of them have never played a proper pokemon game before. This helps them learn the system so they can get by in the game.

"They don't deserve to be good"? What are you, stupid? It's a single player game. You don't like it, that's fine, you'll literally never see anyone else playing the game from your parents basement anyway. You won't get triggered.
>>

Do you have any idea how many role playing let you check weaknesses as a basic feature?

It probably won't be enabled in online matches to avoid that issue, but competitive players have moved on to simulators long ago anyway.

>>

Story mode is fine to help memorize type advantages for new players.
>>
>people are actually complaining that a children's RPG is being dumbed down

When you realise that you're not the target audience for the game you will probably be a lot happier

Like their are deeper JRPG's out there with battle systems that aren't just highest SPD attacks. If it's the monster collecting and shit could you not play SMT if you're upset with this?

I used to love Pokemon as a kid and I'd probably play one if I had a 3DS or whatever but I wouldn't complain about them adding something into the game as an unobtrusive aid.

It doesn't say super effective and shit if you not encountered the mom yet anyway.

Really silly thing that people have blown out of proportion

>>
Can someone explain why this matters?

Surely you already know a Water move would be more effective against the opponent's Fire-type Pokémon than your Pokémon's Ice Beam attack would be?
>>
I wonder if this will apply to every move.

It would be funny to see a move like Thunder Wave being listed as super effective.

Sure, plenty. Thing is, you don't always have the chance to check right in the middle of a battle (without using an item, ability, and/or wasting a turn, at least). Here the game just tells you what attack to use, instead.

Have you played Pokemon lately? The single player is easy enough as is. You don't even need to hit opponents with super effective attacks to win. Why make it eaiser? If this was any other game, people would be rightfully shitting over it, but Nintendrones are A-O-fucking-K with dumbing down yet another Nintendo franchise.

As someone who doesn't give a shit about playing pokemon against other humans, this means nothing to me, and I'm okay with that, Veterans of the series should know type advantages by now so why is it even a big deal?

For new players coming to the series with this entry, it only shows the "super effective" text if the pokemon is already in the pokedex, so again, not a big deal.
>>
>>341671593
Becuase as you siad it's made for kids, kids aren't smart.
>>
>>341671131

>>
>>341667925
Fire Red and Leaf Green let you do this already. Now it's just streamlined
>>
It's to make the entry into the series easier with probably 800 Pokemon by now. Especially since such a huge market as the Chinks are getting Pokemon for the first time ever.
>>
So now you don't have to do a 10 second google search! That's so casual!
>>
What an absolutely trivial thing to get upset over.
>>
>>341670193
>This helps them learn the system so they can get by in the game

To be fair, this only does the opposite. You literally have no reason to learn type strengths and weaknesses now that this exists. The game just straight up fucking tells you
>>
>>341672201
I'm sorry, but when it comes to difficulty in Pokemon, I'm more concerned about the following

-Gym Leaders being allowed to use more than 3 Pokemon
-Challenge Mode coming back
-Having an actual postgame and not just a barebones tower clone and a circle to bike around for egg hatching

than a feature that has zero effect on me because I already know the fucking chart. For any new Pokemon that appear, I won't see any prompts the first time I encounter them anyways, so what has changed?

>b-but kids these days

They would've used their smartphones to look shit up anyways.
>>
>>341667925
>It's okay when SMT does it
>>
>>341672352
But what specifically makes nintendo think kids are less smart now or that catering to such kids will be an improvement in something?
This isn't a "why is a kids game dumb" problem it's a "why is this kids game getting dumber than the previous kids game" problem. I just don't understand it.

Guess it's their circular logic solution to the newer Pokemon designs being completely disconnected from their actual typing.
Also, people who try to act elitist over being "good" at playing Pokemon should have moved on to games not made for kids at least a decade ago.

Gen 1 was filled with poison, ground and normal type Pokemon. It wasnt that hard.

There are going to be over 800 Pokemon now, Anon. Even if you don't literally encounter all of them in battle during the course of the game you're still dealing with much greater and IMO better variety. Also, other modern day RPGs have this same system and no one is bitching over them.

The funny part is "learning through example" is a much more effective form of getting someone to understand the type chart compared to the "trial and error" style of blindly figuring out which move will be effective, so kids/newcomers will probably learn the matchups easier than genwunners did.

No because people who are still in love with Pokemon buy it anyway. College kids, manchildren etc will buy it without fussing over every little change and the dev team doesnt have to waste time splitting their efforts making multiple games to appeal to a smaller market percentage. If you split the dev team you're either going to end up taking longer to complete either game or end up with two mediocre ones due to budget and time constraints. You really want something worse than XY? Where after the 3rd gym it feels like all effort in making the region just comes to a standstill?

You also have to remember when it comes to making games the publishers see most of the profit, not the developers. If Gamefreak were selfpublishing and seeing all that money themselves they'd be able to take as long as they need to cater to every autistic whim if they saw fit and the money kept rolling in.

I would completely write you faggots off too. Trying to cater to nostalgiafags, manchildren and self proclaimed "hardcore" Pokemon players is an unrewarding chore. In fact from Gen 5 onwards it's been nothing but streamlining the breeding and training process so that people can play competitively online to get that challenge and I say that as someone who hasn't actually bought a game since Gen 4 and just plays difficulty hacks to get my fix for a "challenge".

Similarly, no new players will go out of their way to learn something that the game will always tell them.

The notion that this will help as a learning tool for new players is retarded because its whole point is that you don't need to learn shit anymore.

Itt:
Manchild upset his little kid game is made for little kids and he thinks he's a big boy now.

This literally changes nothing but helps little kids play the game. it doesn't effect competitive play, it doesn't change how you play the game, it gives hints for newbies hints that don't in any way interrupt the game, I like pokemon too but grow the fuck up.
>>
>>341669947
>I can see the shit storm for competitive players
Why?

If you're a competitive player you know the type chart already, and if you're actually trying hard and don't recognize a Pokemon for some reason you're just going to look it up
>>
>>341676838
>>341677861
You would have to already beat the Pokemon for this to show up. Literally a non issue
>>
>>341677948

>>
>>341677657
It's pretty redundant but it's there for you to mark something as seen so you can track where to catch it.
Perhaps there will be some randomization in wild Pokemon habitats so the entire feature won't be entirely pointless.
>>
>>341677948
And if you look to your left you'll see the classic manchild that has to assert how grown up and mature he is while acting as autistic and childish as the manchildren he hates so much.

>this children's game has children features

Nevermind the fact that the game has the same braindead gameplay complexity, 20 years and 30 games later. A notifier for something you've learned in 1996 is the real issue.

Nevermind that you've been sold a game cut in two pieces with 5 exclusive pokemon artificially gated out for seven generations.

Nevermind that the entire main quest has the same atrocious pacing of a gameboy game in 2016.

Nevermind that a turn based cartoony game game with flat textures and 2 models total on screen has framedrops to the 15s.

See, this is why every pokemon game is garbage. The OP is your generic pokemon audience. They keep getting abused and lose their shit over the pointless stuff.
>>
>>341678159
>Some pokemon appear in appropriate but different regions based on a random roll for your game
That might be pretty neat.
>>
>>341667925
SMT and EO both do this, I don't see anyone complaining, nor the games are easier because of it.
This kind of shit won't make Pokemon any more for casuals than it is, but gym leaders with 2 pokes, only "important" enemies getting to use megas, exp share on at all times, enemies with much lower levels still giving shittons of EXP and stupider AI that doesn't switch pokes or uses battle items or anything of the sort will.
>>
>>341667925
So this is what tick "hardcore gaymer" fag off their seats.

I don't need it but there are casuals who do. (like 10 years old kids, the MAIN audience) If you don't like it turn it the fuck off.

Blame the 3DS hardware and gamefreak not wanting to spend 6 years making new models for each new game
>>
>>341678707
>Every single person owns a device that can google one word in three seconds.

So why put it in the game?
>>
>>341678660
That's because it was an old game and old people played old games so it was designed for people who would be adults in the future.
Science, yo.
>>
>>341677672
>Single save slot in the current year.
That's so people don't mass clone Pokémon.
>>
>>341678660
Because you couldnt add these features to a gameboy game due to memory issues.

Remember how you could pull up the type chart anytime you wanted in FRLG?
>>
It's absolutely arbitrary to memorize this shit.

It's like when teachers say you can't keep formulas with you for the test when in any functional environment you'd have all the resources possible to resolve problems.

Also just spamming what's super effective isn't going to win every battle, especially against other players. Your precious tourney world is safe.
>>
>>341667925
I'm indifferent. On one hand you're screwed by that point if you didn't prepare for the battle, so it's not like you can change your movesets on the fly. On the other hand, it takes the fun out of forgetting the typing of some Pokemon and being surprised/confused when something didn't hit the way you expected.

Isn't part of the value of game immersion? As autistic as thus sounds, before, I "was" the trainer, since I couldn't be in the virtual world of pokemon, the trainer sprite was only a vessel for my decisions, everything else was my responsibility to remember. Every victory hinged on my abilities as a trainer and my knowlege of the games mechanics. By adding this shitty notifier, it takes away part of the little skill from the game that is already there.
>>
>>341677675
Does it? I there proof that abilities are counted in? That should not be included.

>>
>because it's a game for children
I hate how it's the norm to say that here about many different games, usually Nintendo. I would say "it's a game for everyone". I don't play children's games and would never admit to it either. A children's game is Dora Learning Explorer.

>>
>>341680075

That's the most autistic thing I've read regarding this feature. I'll argue that Pokemon was never inherently difficult at any point and simply knowing super effective moves isn't enough in higher levels of play against better AI in Battle Facilities and against real players, which is the focus now.
>>
This is called a quality of life change. Stop making these threads, autismo.
