I agree it would look way better in pixel art similar to FF1/2/4 on PSP, but given that Square Enix seems to only use 3D(or shitty RPG Maker graphics) now, we shouldn't count on it. And I think that the 3DS has come far enough in its life cycle to where developers can make 3D models without them looking like trash.
But knowing Square Enix the best we'll ever get are eshop ports of the phone games.

It doesn't concern me. I shipped characters on effie7 and I still ship them now, but not in the rabbid kind of sense. Anyone can pair them however they want. I played as FeMU in Awakening and didn't marry on my first Fates playthrough. Awakening was pretty bland, but I still enjoyed some of it. Conquest was pretty good for something more recent.

Yes, take out a mechanic that has been in Fire Emblem since long before Awakening that also rewards the player for being tactically savvy enough to not only win battles, but increase a relationship, which adds insight into the characters, because now it adds extra incentive by allowing you to unlock new fully-fleshed out characters by pursuing said relationships.

Even before we take treehouse's shit localization into account the bigger problem with the supports for Awakening and Fates is that both games had a huge amount characters and most of those characters had supports with nearly every character of the opposite gender with a new support rank for marriage. It went full quantity over quality and it shows. The characters for the GBA and Tellius games were never that deep, but they had much more character than the cast of the past few games.

Unlike the Durandal (which weights like 3 tons), Hector can actually use the Armads without too much AS loss and is usually the only lord that can damage the dragon without dying or at least not being near death.

These are the ones that warranted Birthright instead of making a full complete game instead of three mediocre ones. I love FE3 for the music and dramatic turns, FE4 for its formations of tough enemies near the end balanced by overpowered Holy Weapon units, FE6 for Roy and the FE3 broad strokes, FE8 for the music and antagonists, FE9 for the characters, FE10 for recapturing FE4's gameplay, and FE11 for making me appreciate FE3 more with slightly more dialogue and music.

You honestly need to plan units out. Early promotion is honestly not a bad idea. If you don't plan on using Arthur as a combat unit lategame, making him a Zerker helps a lot. Tonics exist for a reason.
It is a hard map, and its even tougher if you play as a dude(jakob >>> felicia). But its doable and rewarding once you figure it all out.

it was my first fire emblem game, and ever since I played it for the first time, I've been hooked. the characters aren't amazing, but they're decently written. the plot is meh, but I loved the artstyle, I loved several characters, and it's a game I find myself replaying and beating at least once a year.

You should have kept going. I know people who beat Conquest on Hard without DLC, but they are real series veterans who really love FE.
Boo Camp and Ghostly Gold are useful, but if you use them too much they do make a lot of the challenge obsolete. Conquest is hard in the same way FE6 was: it throws tough enemies at you constantly. But as long as you keep your units around the same levels as your enemies the game is really fun and still maintains a good bit of challenge. But if you are underleveled the game is a nightmare and if you are overleveled the game is too easy.

Nah, I don't feel superior at all since I suck as well, my main team on Conquest hard was pretty bad and I suffered a lot on the latter chapters. That being said, trying to put the other guy down when you yourself are using outside maingame features doesn't bode with me well. In terms of game content, supports are unfortunately shit, but there are some good ones. There is no reason for you to use outside maps when you can definitely get the supports with the maingame. No grinding is needed as well since you can have pocket paralogues in case some units fall back.

Have Effie, Silas, Corrin, and Arthur cover the three land routes enemies can get it. Have Camilla hunt down Pegasus Knights and defend with Corrin when she isn't doing that. Always have someone supporting Arthur(I used Felicia and Beruka), and have Azura and Ellie go where needed. Have Odin or Nyx at the fire orb, have Mozu at the back ballista, and have Niles at the front ballista. Then just ensure your weaker units stay outside the red zones.
