I grew up on 12 acres with forest surrounding me, and my 'neighbors' were a half mile away from my house. A lot of my friends grew up in the suburbs 10, 15 minutes from my house, and there was a noticeable difference in light pollution between those 'burbs and my bumfuck patch of nowhere.
I remember friends coming over late, looking up at the stars at night and saying 'holy shit' and I always thought they were retarded. Turns out there wasn't any light pollution around my house, but you couldn't see shit at theirs at night.
