I see now. The entire time before though they're shooting, even just a few seconds before when the player is shooting alongside some of his archers.
I'd assume that the ones standing around in the front ran out of ammo and got transferred to the infantry group, because you can see them start shooting right at the beginning. Not even two minutes is a short time to run out of arrows though so who knows.

Two handed war mace all the way baby. I fucking loved dropping a big lump of iron on some fuckers head in warband. Really makes you feel like you stand out in large scale battles. Like when you see big giant fuckers in movies carving through enemy ranks like Sauron in that Fellowship scene.
