Also, even people who release their creative works for free still want to be given credit for them, and the people stealing mods aren't doing that. Some of them are even accepting donations for doing nothing but uploading someone else's work.
>>
>>341645127
wait, is the issue just that pc mod makers don't want console players playing their mods? i mean i don't see the issue of somebody appropriately downloading a mod for the pc game and playing that on their console as long as they aren't redistributing the mod. or is the problem that they're downloading existing mods and putting them up publicly for other people to download?
>>
>>341646578
That may be an issue, but it's not 'the' issue.

The main issue being all these mods being "stolen" and reuploaded to Bethesda's site for consoles is they aren't made for them, and are liable to break.

beth could fix it if they wanted. give mod authors the option to package their mods in encrypted packages with the intended systems being set in the package's configuration. that would probably stop the problem for good. if could even get slick and allow the author to place files outside the package that the game loads when loading the package for any authors that wanted some of the files to be accessible and changeable by the player

Actually, many of the mods for PC don't work for console very well, featuring bugs that cause save data corruption, crashes, performance issues and even potentially bricking of consoles.

But consolefags, being the petulant children that they are, were getting mad at mod makers not releasing on console, so they just stole the mod and uploaded it themselves, then sent the mod makers complaints when it didn't work.

Popular mods have been inundated with thousands of "CONSOLE PLS!" comments for weeks now.

Oh come on, let's not lie to ourselves a non-unsignificant portion of Steam users are just consoles defectors on the PC platform and don't know any better.

PC is better, but it's been getting worse for a while now.
>>
>>341649624
When I say the very limited rudimentary knowledge, I really do mean the bare basics. I'm talking the difference between your average 12 year old kid or 30 year old casual who doesn't want to install mods in case viruses blow up his PS4.

Plenty of them exist on PC too, of course, but Fallout 4 on PS4 and Xbone is undeniably going to have more casuals than on PC.
>>
>>341649305
>whereas console users just don't have the very limited rudimentary knowledge required to install mods properly
Not even a problem anymore since nexus mod manager holds your hand. Most people aren't going to bother with manually installing mods anymore and will bitch on forums when a mod doesn't work.
>>
>>341650207
I mean literally that on PC you have to go download the nexus mod manager and want to download mods.

On console you just have to go "hey whats this button on the menu called "mods" do?"

Even with NMM or MO, you often have to have at least some idea of how Skyrim works to make your mods work properly. You'll almost certainly need to know how to make bashed/merged patches as well.

Almost no one installs mods manually. It's just a bad idea, especially when MO exists.

Fucking hell. First, I wouldn't imagine you can pirate the game and upload mods since you need to link via Steam.

Second - I don't give a fuck about Fallout 4 cause it's shitty but people putting time and effort into mods to fix a game that is a massive pile of fucked up should be getting paid by Bethesda.

They can't even release good games. And it's up to the modding community to fix something that costs millions and is apparently made by a "top developer" who thinks their games aren't shit.
>>
Bethesda should have just greenlit certain mods that they know work well with the consoles, they know full damn well the limitations consoles have when it comes to mods and lack of a console. They also don't bother to give any info about mods and make it sound like making a mod work on console is as simple as checking a box. Bethesda is chiefly to blame here.

Not necessarily handhold, but at least provide some basic information on modding, not just check the box to get it for console. There's a lot of players that have never dealt much with modding, of course they're not gonna know shit about them. Yeah they should have looked up information on their own time, but Bethesda hasn't been helping by making it sound like putting mods on console is as simple as checking a box. They're console users, there's plenty of idiots in that group who probably think Bethesda knows more about the game than modders.

I'd say it's more the industry people fuck everything up.

I see shit like this everytime I look for mods for my Xbox One, hell, are console players really this retarded? I know I cannot get mods akin to Project Nevada or XBOXHUEG mods like A world of pain into the Bone first because no script extender, second because the 2gb restriction which is fucking nothing because you could not run huge mods on console anyways (again mainly because of the script extender or if they were graphic mods your console would explode) so I'm content with our library full of tweaks and new item mods, I knew what I was getting and content with it...

Mods on consoles were a mistake most console players are insufferable ignorants about the modding scene and think you only have to hit a button that says "35490567 awesome mods pack 250 Xplus" and your game magically becomes modded

>>341649305
And having knowledge of how to install them is not even the issue since NMM does that for you, hell even if you want a merged patch or a bashed patch it doesn't take more than following a youtube video step by step.

The problem with console mods is first that the system cannot handle heavy mods, second we don't have a way to see in what a mod conflicts with another in some instance (mods that are always compatible still conflict sometimes if they alter the same shit) and most Console users are ignorant shits of anything PC related

knowing how to manually install mods is good knowledge, but like you said nearly no one does it, I mean I know how to do it but I still use FMM for my New Vegas mods (NMM can rot in hell if you ask me), and hell it doesn't really take a lot of time to learn how to mod your shit, I remember when I bought NV on steam and wanted to mod, I literally spent like 1-2 hours reading FAQs and watching some youtube about it
>>
>>341659449

Yeah, but I think modding Morrowind is a little easier than it was in Oblivion and Skyrim, except for certain mods load order isn't too important. Also I use NMM for Morrowind and don't really recall having any issues.

>>341659867

Except not using a mod manager can make uninstalling certain mods or finding what's causing issues a lot harder.

UnInstallation is much easier, plus if you create mods, being able to have smaller mod lists for testing is a godsend.

Or you could just click one thing in NMM or MO and have it be uninstalled in a matter of seconds.

what's the fucking point of it then? (not that 900m is little space for console mods, most of them weight less than 10 mb)

so Radio stations and custom sound for let's say a Rifle is out of the picture?

You must not have purchased more than one copy of Fallout 4. Your opinion has been discarded.

That means I have to track all those things down. Why bother when I can get rid of it with one click?

Dwemer subways acrosd Skyrim are lore friendly?

Yeah... Not doing that.

A case covered in that post you quoted.

yeah but they still have tools availableand it takes nothing for one to say mmm maybe I'l install them with MO just for a change, hell I doubt console players even understand NMM
>>
>>341659515
PC will always have things like Nexus, if Valve wants something like paid mods throught the workshop no one would use that shit and just mod like they have always done

also does anyone really use Steam Workshop to mod games? are people really this retarded?
>>
>>341660062
make a backup of your data folder everytime you install a new mod... that's what I do and yes I have a folder with a gazillion Data backups

Shut the fuck up, you're a fucking idiot

I was fresh off the console and never even heard of mod managers when I started getting into PC gaming and started modding my games manually, it was fucking easy and self-explanitory, stop overexaggerating. Anyone can figure it out of they give it a couple hours.

Second using a mod manager is way faster and gives you a fuck load more options. Why the fuck would you choose to do things the inferior way? "Lol because I'm not a pleb and know how to manually install" nigger anyone who knows the basics of file organization can figure that shit out.
>hurr this says "Data"
>maybe I should merge it with the data folder
Done! There's your "genius"

Why would anyone choose to do things the impractical way just because it's harder? This supposed to be some sort of self-imposed challenge? A way to seem "cooler" than other PC users? It's fucking stupid and only on PC woulf someone take pride in doing things the objectively (yes I said objectively) inferior way.

Please tell me why I should go back to doing things the shitty way?
>>
>>341662120

Always is a big word. If you'd told me ten years ago that not only the vast bulk of PC games would be enclosed behind walled-garden architectures, changing the platform into glorified would-be consoles, but also that people would clamor for them and refuse buy games that didn't use them?

I would have thought you crazy. Yet here we are.
>>
>>341660865
Fuck you I was retarded enought to buy it for both my Xbox and the PS4 I bought later
>>
>>341662896
You're a fucking idiot lol.
>>
>>341660476
They aren't superior, I used to do it that way. It's fucking stupid and good luck managing load order for Bethesda games that way. I have no godly clue why anyone would ever do manually unless they didn't have a choice like Garry's Mod used to be (and if youre looking for off the workshop mods still is)
>>
>>341662698

It's like you didn't read the post you're answering to.

So, again for the slow-of-understanding: it's a hint, not a proof. Meaning you *can* use a mod manager and not be stupid, if you're using for another reason
>>

Literally anything and everything is lore friendly, even (and some times more so) if it contradicts. This is why technically speaking Bethesda can make such massive lore retcons and still supposedly get away with it. Depending on who you ask even the in game menu is part of the lore.

It barely even matters desu. The only mods out for console are cheats that only take a few mb. PC can use huge amounts of storage on mods because you can get ultra high res texture shit, if you tried to do any of that on console the shit would melt.
>>
>>341663092
yes but since I had to leave my Xbox at home for my little brother, my other brother had the magnificent idea of buying a Ps4 for us that are in college, then I managed to get Fallout 4 for 30 dollars in one of those god awful PSN sales (In my defense I was piss drunk browsing the store)

Yes, and there are better ways to do it now. If you want to keep doing it your way because that's what you're used to and you don't want to change, that's fine. Just don't call other people idiots for not wanting to do it that way when other options are available.

Issues arise when people start modding through managers only, don't understand the implications of what they're doing, are too lazy bother extending the effort, and then start demanding customer support out of modders because they're too stupid to understand the difference between a paid product and something that's being given for free to them by someone.
>>
>>341664852
I'm not calling anyone an idiot, that's what I did for Oblivion and sure as hell I use MO for Fallout 3, Skyrim and New Vegas I'm not that much of an autist to manually mod everything I have
>>
>>341644658
Why even use Bethesda.net when Nexus still exists and is better in every conceivable way? Fuck, Nexus isn't even that good and it still looks like a fucking godsend compared to Bethesda's abortion of a mod site.

>>341665553
Console players can't use the Nexus.
