let me break it down for you since I already have
>original story that doesn't tie into any other franchise
>it does take inspiration from many different sources
>has a name but they wont reveal it so it probably gives away something important
>game will feature an experienced spiderman that has been in the business for a few years
>as far as gameplay all they are saying is there is going to be a big emphasis on traversal and navigating the city, not only with how he swings but with the acrobatics he uses to move around
>combat system will also reflect the unique ways spiderman can move
>the game will play up peters intelligence as much as spidermans abilities
>the suit has something to do with this and there is a reason it looks the way it does
>it is as much a peter parker game as it is a spiderman game
>this is what its like when worlds collide

Attaching to buildings means absolutely nothing if the proper swing physics aren't there.

I really liked the shocker fight in Spiderman 2 for some reason.
It gave you this big factory to move around in, and shocker had some good attacks to keep you on your toes. It was also entertaining to see some of his more powerful moves ragdoll you across the level.
Id like some more boss fights like that.

Spiderman 2 had proper physics and attachments. Ultimate spiderman had attachments but lost the whole speed and momentum feel of the game. Then it degenerated further into the ASM games where webs dont attach and ontop of that you have the ability to hit max speed at the first swing and not even at the second half of your swing arc. The physics of it all is as important as the webs attaching. Its what makes taking a turn so fun, its what makes speed runs across the city so challenging as you time each web release and swing to get maximum speed.

Theres no confirmation about the webs and anything people say keeps coming up dry without a source. Expect max speed sky swinging until proven otherwise

yeah it all looks very QTE and shit so dont get your hopes up. Some anon will come in saying its all gameplay but it all depends on what you define as such in the end. I personally dont think holding X for awesome is but many do.

Seriously, if the proper physics aren't applied then ti doesn't matter if the webs attach to buildings. The momentum and control absolutely has to be there.

I don't understand how people whine about Spider-Man games and swinging and then say Ultimate Spider-Man is better than 2. Ultimate absolutely neutered a lot of the stuff you could do in Spider-Man 2 as well as all the acrobatic moves.

Completely agree. Too often we expect to make a cake with half the ingredients missing. The physics is what made spiderman2 great. Ultimate i think improved many things, races/villains/story/bosses/venom but lost the very fun swinging. Its swinging wasnt bad, compared to ASM its the GOAT but was a step down.

>>341638017
Id much rather just have a generic beat em up spidey instead of a million flashy moves that happen when i press a special button. Spiderman 2 was wonderful in that it let you spin baddies like a lasoo, pile drive them etc. Id much rather do this than the really flashy but automatic finisher moves from ASM

It's a hybrid type of swing.

If there's an object or building around, the webs will attach to it. The length would also be based on how far said object is.

If there's nothing around, it anchors to the sky.

The DS Metroidvania Spider-Man games also attached to surfaces and its length does factor into your momentum building and speed.
>>
>>341638108
>I didn't even swing in 2, I leveled up my wall run to max and just sprinted everywhere

Wall run + the charge jump is a great combination. Insomniac should look into allowing diff types of locomotion. An option for those who want to jump and wall run, an option for those who enjoy webzip and jumping, an option for those specialising in web swinging. A choice between better wall run, faster swing speed or higher jumping would make playing nice and variable as you distribute points differently through the game

This and ultimate were THE best games. PS1 gets a special consolation prize due to nostalgia and love

What I love about PS2 was that it was almost, ALMOST, literally Manhattan. No team will ever be so fucking ballsy as to create Manhattan in its ENTIRETY

I've always wished a proper sequel or remake or whatever of this game. It's almost perfect in terms of exploration. Being a NYCer, My dream was for a recreated and realistic Manhattan/NY

They dropped the ball on some details but it was perfect. The devs were so dedicated they actually put full dialogues when the citizens are on their phones. I eavesdropped on at least 3 NPCs and they all had different convos that lasted a pretty long time

RIP Spiderman 2. You'll always be on my shelf

arkham combat works for batman. Why would spiderman stand around trading blows with guys he can kill in a single blow? Combat needs to go the direction of spiderman 2 and web of shadows, web and acrobatics based. ASM combat was generic brawler shit that even if perfected makes no sense for spiderman. Web of shadows had you fighting on ground, walls and air and jumping between all three constantly. This is what needs to be done for spiderman combat. Simply make guns a lot more deadly meaning stagnant combat just isnt doable without dying. It should be spiderman jumping around dispatching enemies while dodging gun fire not punch counter punch stun punch counter finishingmoveanimation

The problem with a lot of these Arkham clones is that they aren't responsive and they put priority in the animations playing out fully instead of allowing you to interrupt them when countering. They also put a ridiculous focus on countering that pressing the standard attack button is pretty fucking useless.

ASM games and TMNT: Out of the Shadows both had this problem. ASM suffered far more as it had range enemies where your only option was to dodge. Countering didn't work since you wouldn't fly across the room to fight them, and getting to them is annoying as the other enemies will always run towards you and go for an attack while you're trying to focus on the guy with the assault rifle. You can disable his rifle but you better do it quick because the window is really fucking small.

And then they decide to throw 2 fuckers with assault rifles, and one of them fires when the other is the middle of reloading. Then it's just a never ending game of dodging until you reach at least one.

which is why they should add web based combat
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sB2yPdKrkY
movesets like these in combat would help spiderman jump around enemy to enemy, why they should implement more acrobatic and webbing moves. Web of shadows wasnt perfect but you can see what i mean

>>341643667
i have played them and i wasnt happy with how the radius in which batman could glide over and punch someone seemed to increase after each game. You shouldnt be able to maintain a combo between two guys on opposite ends of the room with the same attack button. I love the games but wasnt a fan of this.

I get what you mean with that style of gliding across the room being more spiderman style, if incorporated with webs like the link i posted it would be a great midway.

>Also, Spidey is punching normal goons in every game and movie
I get that but it just isnt fun to have spiderman having fist fights with some amateur goons like hes a normal person in an armor suit. Web of shadows imo had the, while not perfect, best spiderman combat system as it was what you would expect spiderman to fight like instead of standing on the ground and trading blows like rocky

>That webm of batman taking out an entire gang while the controller just spams the counter button comes to mind.

That actually works as intended though and you can interrupt your current default attack animation when there's a counter coming up.

ASM and TMNT doesn't allow for that. Your default attack animation must play in its entirely before a counter move is registered. It makes for a very sluggish and unresponsive combat system. At that point, pressing attack is fucking useless as it will only get you killed.

>>341644386
>movesets like these in combat would help spiderman jump around enemy to enemy, why they should implement more acrobatic and webbing moves. Web of shadows wasnt perfect but you can see what i mean

ASM actually had those moves too

They fucking sucked. But that's not why I brought up that example. I'm just pointing out why the other comic games with Arkham combat sucks ass. They copied it but they don't understand why it works.
>>
>>341644386
It would be easy to implement web stuff to Arkham base style. Hell, the ice grenades already serve a point in that. Also the batclaw but more diverse stuff for Spidey.
>>
>>341644898
>They fucking sucked. But that's not why I brought up that example. I'm just pointing out why the other comic games with Arkham combat sucks ass. They copied it but they don't understand why it works.

i understand. If they are to copy it we should hope for good implementation and >>341644945 said, incorporation of web moves.

I have high hopes for this game. Their biggest dev team yet, no movie time constraints, big budget. I feel like i can almost hope for good combat and story instead of just webswinging and physics as they should be a sure thing at this point. It feels strange to have a spiderman thread where we can discuss something other than swinging because we expect so much

I really hope that Insomniac isn't going to shy away from some of the more crazy stuff in the franchise.I want Spider-Man to come across weird shit and fight it. Lizards, mind readers, vampires, himself.

It's the only reason why I even tolerated ASM1. ASM2 jsut threw all that shit out the window just to be closer to the movies.

I dont blame em, they want one of the biggest features of their game to be done well because somehow 2 gens later we still cant do it. They are tunnel visioned in that should they get it they would probably be content with shitty everything else (i loved spiderman 2 but it had issues).

Some mysterio type levels where things get crazy and trippy, underground sewers with lizards and crazy morbius chases through the city at night would be wonderful. Its not attached to any movie so they can go as wild as they want.
>>
>>341628280
WHAT'S WITH THE GETTUP?
>>
>kraven the hunter
>throughout the game at random points get jumped and attacked
>a booby trap goes off or a quick mini boss fight with kraven after he hits you with some drug
>about 3-4 of these random encounters
>culminates in an actual mission where you finally track and hunt him for a proper big boss fight

Build up is as important as the actual fight, we need to build kraven as this constant threat. I understand a random attack would be annoying, it could be timed to occur right before a mission marker in a secluded spot to reduce inconvenience. Spiderman commenting on it through the story about a madman constantly chasing him and watching him would be goat.

Venom - small arena, up close and personal, like the PS1 fight
Shocker - big space to get shot around or bashed up, maybe like the Spiderman 2 fight
Vulture - On top of/across a few skyscrapers, hopefully without a bullshit chase sequence beforehand
Mysterio - Illusionary room, changing environment, maybe without any giant shenanigans like in PS1 or Shattered Dimensions
Kraven - Area with a lot of potential to get ambushed, maybe playing off the inevitable spider sense mechanic a little without making it easy by just dodging with a button (you know you're gonna get jumped, but you have to know from where)

I just got sick of having to do it, since you have to do a chase in over half the Spider-man missions. It came down to starting a mission and expecting to have to follow the next villain along on his rampage. They switched it up sometimes since the chases had different gimmicks (mostly), but it felt lame after the 5th one. I liked the races/trials better for swinging around and getting it just right.

Except that for like 50 years that was NOT part of his character. That he won't let a new generation of Batman exist without him creating it.

>>
>>341649830
i see what you mean. Vulture on the other hand could provide a unique chase type sequence, you chase him across manhattan and as you get close enough you pull off a feather or someshit while dodging bombs or something.

Youre right in saying the chases get boring for the 100th villain but i think designing it to be a boss fight of sorts in the chase could change it a lot. Perfecting your speed would be a lot more enjoyable if it means you can grab him and disable one of his 3 thrusters or something. Something to aim toward when chasing and that leads to the final boss fight.
>>
>>341649870

I'm not knocking MacGyver m8. Love the show.

The great thing about the show is that he always has a solution for a situation, but he needs to think it out and work for it.
>>
>>341649479
I don't know why people focus on Batman with this stuff. It's very basic in pretty much any story that the hero deus ex machinas themselves out of trouble.
Is it because Batman basically says "I knew this would happen"?
>>
>>341648969

Punisher is different. He was created in a time when the Comics Code Authority made it so that heroes didn't kill and generally tough issues weren't touched. Frank Castle is an exception, he was made specifically as a response to how bad crime in America was in the 70s.

batman did not win that, superman was outright holding back and trying to take him in peacefully the entire time. It was like a 5 year old fighting his dad who was trying to put him in time out.

the comics have made it very clear, even explicit that if superman chose to kill batman he could pop his head off at any time and batman would never see it coming. And that imagery isn't something I made up, the comic literally drew that in a panel.

I still can't tell if that's Spiderman 2 web swinging. I'd really like to hope, it LOOKS like it, but I've been burned too many times.

The way he slows down when he reaches the end of the swing makes me think that it is. But it could just be a canned animation and not physics.

If it has it, it'll be my GOTY either way.

Weird way to say the best Batman we have ever seen.

I dig the white spider. I've been a Spiderman fan since I was like 8, IDK what the bitching is about. I think the colors work.

Insomaniac should just buy Treyarch web-swinging mechanics. That would save them the job and make everyone happy.

A dating aspect could be pretty fun, if implemented well. You'd also get more replay ability if you can have more than one love interest.

moonswinging if I recall correctly. SM3 is actually an OK game but it doesn't hold a candle to SM2.

I also liked shattered dimensions for some weird reason

it cant possibly be that hard to do when it was done on whats considered a toaster these days. They have their biggest team working on this game, to expect anything less than sm2 swinging would be crazy. It should be the base line from which the work and expand upon.

Adding things like the ability to make clothesline between buildings to perch on or hook car jackers on, slingshots, improved web zips etc.

It would make me suicidal to hear that somehow they were unable once again to implement a basic physics based swing system where webs attach to things that exist
