The producer I think said you wouldn't be able to really follow the story without playing the first game. GR1 is on PS4 now anyways and to me it was a very fun game but also a bit rough around the edges, it's a proof of concept with a strong base if you can tolerate repetitive combat to push the story and world building/exploration along. Other parts of the gameplay is just rewarding in itself such as flying around and exploring cities from top to bottom. Its a fun game.

The story was all over the place as far as giving answers about anything, but the atmosphere of the exploration takes a dip into the surreal half-way through that really made it worthwhile for me.
Kind of like blending a colorful and charming surface coating, with a dark Lovecraftian undertone.

The gameplay of exploring with gravity manipulation is really fun and original, but the actual combat is fairly repetitive.
It's a charming story with good atmosphere, but it's all over the place in focus and tone and ends with several unanswered questions. Yet it was intriguing and surreal in a way that I couldn't bring myself to ever hate it.
So Gravity Rush has its flaws, but I found it creative and entertaining enough to overlook them. Helps knowing that the sequel can actually resolve some of the cliffhangers though.

Flying around is great fun- rather than typical vidya flying, you just pick a direction to fall toward. The combat gets a bit repetitive, but not boringly so. 100% completion will probably take you 18-25 hours. There are races and combat challenges to complete in between missions.

I just started Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel and it's pretty good so far. If you like dungeon crawlers like Etrian Odyssey then you should try Dungeon Travelers 2 there is a demo for it.

I can only think of this in BB terms is blue hair something of an observer? The fact that she appeared like that before Syd and then that thing with Alias,(a petty thieve would have no need for nor have the ability to control navi nor harass Kat in her dreams like he did. And if you look at his collar Syd has that same symbol on it. On top of the mysteries after Alias was beaten second time and seemly killed, the mayor, had mysteriously vanished with some NPCs saying he died and before the timeskip Yukina had alot more haughtiness to her, with her leering at Kat receiving phrase for beating the criminal.
Finally, the strangest mystery is the Navi when Kat first starts diving down, they aren't nearly as aggressive, you could be right up in the flying one's faces and they wouldn't make much of an effort to attack you but when she starts climbing up, they're very aggressive and the big nevi made an extreme effort to either kill Kat or drag her back to the depths and showed no interest in the children at all. Even in the boss fight with it the second time it will be attacking Kat more than going after the Ark.
Another thing, The arc itself. The kids knew of it, Raven knew of it but it was never xplains how they thought it would get them home, why it actually needed the hands of Two shifters instead of just one like the panel implied and Why the children were protected inside but Raven was able to immediately leap back into action as soon as the old man pulled her out.
The game's story is a mess right down to Yukina's assistance in the final battle, To stop the machine, you only really need Raven to stop it from spinning so you can have a clear window to attack the core where as Yunkina's charge shot does nothing, it doesn't even attribute taking a sliver off the bosses health.
And finally, the game tried to make it seem like Nevi are more than mindless kill monsters including telling asshole about queen kat.

It isn't clear if Cyanea knows everything, but she seems to state that everyone's on a path preordained by fate.
The Ark's a complete mystery, outside of being a potential remnant from a past organization that may have had some involvement with the shifters, or the creators, based on how Kat's powers affected it after Cyanea made her take a look at her past.

My theory is that the Nevi respond to emotions. Echo's was apparently docile until she started freaking out, and the harsh military rule seemed to make the Nevi attacks on the city more frequent.
I don't know if they're the ones who told Alias about Kat's past though. I assumed that he had a shared history with her, before she lost her memories.

So they had an excuse for Kat to hold Raven's hand, obviously.
But for real, these are my suspicions:
- Ark was built by a civilization of gravity shifters
- Kat comes from the same place, another city most likely farther up the pillar, she may be their queen
- Since time passes more quickly the further up the pillar you go, the shifter city is probably much more technologically advanced than Hekseville and has a lot of tech that's based on manipulating gravity, the likes of which Hekseville was just starting to scratch the surface
- The gravity animals may come from the same place, since such a city is closer to the sky and the animals appear to be full of stars
- Raven's raven may have been on board the Ark when it originally fell (maybe it was the partner of the Ark's pilot, who died?)
So even though this game is based in another area do you think we will go back to hecksville at some point?

It feels like they might have just ended the scientists' story on a tragic note, but I hope the sequel brings them back as well. Thought it was one of the better subplots to discover in the first game.
