It shows Link emerging from a draining pool of water, this is unmistakably a symbolism of Hyrule emerging from the draining Great Sea, this plus all the plethora of obvious hints like the exact same Koroks, the salt shards from the Great Sea, the way mounted combat looks and feels like combat on boat in WW and obviously his shirt.
This is a distant future sequel in that timeline.

The only problem I have with those games is that 90% of the hidden places you find only rewarded you in ruppees or other shit that you didn't really need if you were marginally far into the game. It's way more satisfying to get an actual, useful ITEM, which in most games are only in the dungeons.

This is my major problem with it too. I like treasure to be significant.
People might shitpost for mentioning it but at least in Dark Souls most of what you find is unique in some way so even finding a really standard weapon can be exciting. When you find a new sword in BotW you know it's exactly like your current one but slightly better. Repeat for the rest of the game.
The fact that there's stuff like the fire rod is promising though, there might be a pretty large number of unique weapons. And finding clothes should always feel pretty good since they seem to be rare and I think unique.

I remember thinking ALttP had some of the better exploration elements in all the Zelda games I'd played because you could find actual interesting shit for exploring, not just heart containers or whatever, but optional weapons and items like upgraded boomerangs, ice rods etc.

Yes, definitely. Although seemingly interesting caves with useless shit in them is a staple in any RPG with exploration. I mean they've already trolled us with the sword in the stone that just turned out to be shitty beginner weapon, so who knows what twists they'll pull. It'd be cool if the Master Sword weren't a story weapon, but an actual secret you can get to by exploring way off the rails.
Personally though I'm just fucking hyped that they managed to recapture the breadth and mysticism of an open world like OoT did when you first played it back in the day. Like the OoT map wasn't large by any means but it seemed large the first time you get out of Kokiri and the camera panned through the field. I had too much fun exploring every nook and cranny in Hyrule 64 and Termina, but none of the maps in the later Zelda gave me that sense of adventure and discover. I was also a severe Triforce hunter back in the day and believe a lot of those shitty rumors. I'm hoping they toss us folks a bone and hide some truly cool shit in this game.

The games already have uncountable years between them. I mean the very geography of Hyrule changes from game-to-game, which isn't something that can happen within a century. I'm thinking this Link isn't one from a previous series, but was sealed away for a similar purpose as in OoT. They didn't have the means to defeat Ganon because he was too powerful at the time, so they put the hero into stasis to wake up at a time when he would be stronger.

My theory is that it is an alternate timeline to OoT when young Link is put asleep for 7 years.
Something happens that hinders the sages from waking him up and so he wakes up 100 years later near the Temple of Time.
Super tinfoil bonus theory:
Zelda gets trained by the Sheikah and she somehow manages to bind him to Hyrule Castle with her triforce-power.
Then, she and the sheikah left the technology and Guardians in the world to protect what little has remained of Hyrule.
Ganon is slowly getting more powerful and now has influence on the Guardians so Link is awakened by the godesses (The voice at the beginning). They are speaking english because only Link (and so through him we as the player) can understand them.
