>>
Boy that promotional picture of cosplay Emily looks awful and out of place though.

>half of /v/ dislikes Dishonored

I'll never understand this. Are people really that asspained about a game reflecting your actions rather than just patting you on the back for being a psycho?
>>
i never managed to get into the first one. played through the first mission (not the tutorial mission) three times now and always ended up being bored. really want to like this game but we arent made for each other i guess
>>
>>341589664
If you have it try the dunwall city trials in the game. It was dlc but depending on the version you bought you could have it. It let's you experiment with more of the powers, maybe that'll help you enjoy it more, maybe not
>>
>>341589403
I personally liked dishonored but I felt it was missing something to be GOTY. I hope the new one turns out better
>>
>>341588529
Why's he still wearing the mask?
>>
>>341592372
he aint sure that if he puts it off he may die.
>>
>>341592723
don't they have measuring tape in dunwall?
>>
>>341592372

It has a few nifty gadgets on the inside, plus it looks cool.
>>
>>341592372
why did he wear the mask i was too bored to finish the first game
>>
>>341592846
For you.
>>
>>341592372
because he's a big guy
>>
I watched the Bethesda E3 presentation live and pirated and played Dishonored through just yesterday. I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it and am doing a no kills/ghost run now. I'll probs buy 2 on release.
>>
I missed almost everything about this game, except for the fact that you can choose to play as Emily or Corvo. Any gameplay differences between them? I was hoping Emily would be more sneaky, less magic bullshit and Corvo would be CUHRAYZEE town.
>>
>>341589403
Problem is stealth is too easy. Combat is far more fun, but you're punished for using half of the game's potential and mechanics. I really wish they could make it like Dark Messiah, so you can use stealth as a combat option, not to walk from A to B and finish the game by doing so.
>>
Dishonored is that kind of game I feel I should like; but I just don't.

Maybe I'm just boring in my playstyle but I found D1 very same'y.
>>
Emily looks extremely boring to play as. Feels like 90% of her abilities are suited for nonlethal, the only her interesting ability is that shadow beast thingy and Corvo is already a beast without needing a separate mode for that.
>>
>>341593258

>Feels like 90% of her abilities are suited for nonlethal

Thank fucking God.
>>
It looks good but I'm boycotting Bethesda
>>
>>341593492

You're retroactively boycotting Arkane which are a breddy gud studio.
>>
>>341593231
>you're punished for using half of the game's potential and mechanics
No you are not, stop repeating this crap.

If anything you are rewarded since the game spawns more guards/weepers for you which means more shit to kill.

>b-but high chaos!
>b-but bad ending!
>b-but no one likes me!
So fucking what.

It's clear you don't give a shit about the story anyway since you want it to disregard your actions and have no consequences, so what's your fucking point?
>>
>>341593258
>Feels like 90% of her abilities are suited for nonlethal
But that's good.

Domino seems pretty fucking OP though.
>>
>>341593572
Nothing retroactive about it, I can still enjoy Arx Fatalis because that was pre-Beth
>>
>>341588529
Best couple
>>
>>341593596
Only because game is designed this way. Like I said - you are a bad guy if you are killing in a game designed to have entertaining combat. What is the fucking point? It's like making non-lethal farcry3.
>It's clear you don't give a shit about the story anyway
I do an that's why I did a non-lethal blood and steel run.
>>
>>341593782
arx fatalis was such a good fucking game
>>
>>341588529
No this game sucks. Instead of elder scrolls 6 this abomination was announcrd
>>

>>

>>

>>
>>341593782

>>

Gee, thanks. Corvo it is.
>>
>>341593985

>>
>>341594263
It's almost like Emily is for faggots.
>>
>>341588529
You know i'm suprised not a lot of people are talking about it
>>
>>341588529
Honestly I'm super worried about it, they gave him a voice, and Emily commented on the dust storm when it started up.
I don't want to listen to their internal monologue while I'm playing, voice dialogue is fine but I don't need to hear them gab on while I'm trying to have fun.
>>
>>341593936
Just embrace beng the bad guy you pussy faggot
>>
>>341588529

Dev confirmed you can say no to The Outsider and have no powers at all in an Emily run.
>>
>>341594368
It's almost like Emily is supposed to be the main character in this game
>>
>>341594263
Emily gets tentacles and can transform into a crawling shadow beast
>>
>>341594515
The beast thing is the only interesting one.
>tentacles
That's the gimped blink. For stealth play, at least.
>>
>>341593936
>Like I said - you are a bad guy if you are killing in a game designed to have entertaining combat.
Dishnored is designed to be entertaining in a wide variety of ways, combat is only a part of it. You are supposed to complete the objective in each mission, how you do it is up to you.

>It's like making non-lethal farcry3
No it's not. Far Cry is designed with killing and killing only in mind and doesn't have any alternate non-lethal routes.

Have you ever thought that the game might be played more than once? What next, are you going to bitch about choices in quests because they don't let you see 100% content in one run?
>>
>>341594591
it is batman grappling hook, not blink.

I preordered the game and just finished the first. I'm excited as well, but HOLY FUCK DON'T MAKE ANOTHER TRIALS OF DUNWALL AND GIVE BULLSHIT ACHIEVEMENTS
MOST OF THE RFUCKGIN SHCHALLENGES ARESD PURELY BASED ON RNG AND LUCKA VAGINAS
IT;'SA BULSDIHT
But yeah, I'm pretty hyped.
>>
>>341594263
I play for the plot so I'm choosing Emily. In my opinion corvos story is done
>>
>>341594415
>tfw I want to play with no powers but I also want to play as Corvo
>tfw no face
>>
>>341594263
I assume one of them is more clearly designed for beginners?
>>
>>341594402
No. And stealth is dishonored is terrible - it's just evading blind and deaf dummies, patrolling on a fixed route. And if you DO use blink - it's a faceroll.
>>
>>341593936

The game punishes you by giving you a dark ending. There's a simple solution, though.

Play low chaos. Experience low chaos ending.

Now go cut people. Experience high chaos ending.

You people really fuckin' exaggerate just how much the game "punishes" you.
>>
>>341594651
There are two choices only. It's bioshock one level of content variety, really.
>>
>>341593936
You can always do a High Chaos run before doing a Clean Hands next playthrough.
>>
>>341594591
>>341594263
It's not as good for getting around, but you can pull enemies with it and kill them midair.

Pretty much looks like Emily is better for high chaos and Corvo is better for low chaos.

I tried Dishonoured and just couldn't get into it even though it seemed to be a good game
>>
>>341594686
Let's be logical.

We need an assassin who is going to risk his life in order to bring the rightful empress to the throne.

You can choose:

1: A seasoned killer who is skilled at stealth and is one of the best fighters across the world, already did a similiar job before and is supposed to protect the Empress. Also he can afford to die.

2: Young Empress who is not a killer, has no experience and if she dies all is lost.

Gee that's a hard choice.
>>
>>341595325
But corvo trained emily.
>>
You are all missing the most important question. Are we meeting for cigars and brandy tonight?
>>
>>341593936
>Wahhh I wanna murder people without any consequences
>>
>>341595614
Yeah I guess that changes everything.

Except:

She still has no real experience.

She still can't afford to die because she's the Empress.

Being trained doesn't mean she is better or even on par with her master.
>>
>>341595703
That will shorten your liefespan by half
>>
>>341595325
>Let's be logical
It's fiction, dipshit, there's nothing logical about it. It's all contrived and dear old anon figures that going with the new protag will make for a better story.
>>
>>341595703
It's whiskey and cigars, and indeed I believe so

and I just wanted to say sir, congratulations on getting your own squad
>>
Zdravo Chorba :^)
>>
>>341595872
Yeah but story wise it's Emily whose throne was stolen. It would make sense to play as her. We already did crovos story. From a plot pov Emily should the the one who get her own thrown back
>>
Better make a pass over here.
>>
>>341595928
>fiction can't be logical
>>
>>341595325
I feel like the game wants you to play as Emily. All the trailers have been from her point of view. Sure you can play as corvo but he's more of a second choice
>>
>>341589403
I liked it but it felt and played like poor man's thief and I mean old thief. I just wanted it to be more complex.
>>
>>341596268

For multiple runs, as long as he plays substantially different than Emily, then it really doesn't matter, since I'll be completing the game as both of them.
>>
>>341593787
You need to stop
>>
>>341589056

>>
>>341588529

I mean who is going to be fooled by a shall covering the lower part of your face.

Still looking forward to this game, hope it's good fun.

>>341596879
It can be logical though, and logic is usually beneficial for the plot.

So what's your point?
>>
>>341596834
It's actually makes sense for Emily. Her mother was murdered when she was young and Corvo a skilled assassin trained her to prevent that from happening again. The character isn't shoehorned in at all
>>
>>341588529
can you play as a female?
>>
>>341589403
>implying killing a bunch of faceless, nameless mooks will have any effect on anything
>>
>>341596840
>literal System Shock rip-off when we're getting two actual SS games
>killed the bounty hunter Prey 2
Nah, fuck it.
>>
>>341595325
The first game clearly indicates Emily since a young age was being trained by Corvo

Secondly this game is clearly her story as indicated by trailers and the such, Corvo already had his story in the first game and he's just tagging along

I would argue she may be trained in some form of killing, because in the opening scene shown at E3 it is indicated she dresses up and goes out, what's to stop her for taking out the occasional villain or two while she was doing that

Finally yes she is the Empress and if she does die it does kind of ruin things slightly, unless she has someone that takes over in the case, like she may have assets signed to Corvo in legal documents if she were to pass away for any reason.

Also finally her character has always been fiesty and in your face, now that she is an adult in her own right I can see she might ignore everyone's concerns and take things in her own hands
>>
I wonder if Emily gets to use the Heart. If she does, does she know who's heart it is?

It's her mothers heart, confirmed by the devs, clues put into context in game depending on where/what/who you ask it about.
>>
>>341597136

>>
>>341594415
>>341594743
Apparently it's doable with Corvo as well. How it's possible since he already has the mark, I don't know though.
>>

>strong, independent, ruler, magical assassin womyn character, we're so progressive

>>
>>341597483
It's not the what, it's the how.

Emily being in there is fine. She's clearly special snowflakey though, keeping her rulership and risking her life doing assassin missions.

Plus, you went through the whole game without seeing Corvo's face. But we show off Emily all the time. even when killing, her mask only hides half her face.

How do you make choices in a video game without playing it? Any worthwhile choice in a video game should be by playing it,. not by hitting A or X during a dialogue QTE. Get some standards.

The first game was meant to be GOTY but people disregarded it by the time it came to create those end of year lists.

The critics were more willing to make garbage like Journey, Mass Effect 3 and The Walking Dead GOTY over Dishonored! Can you believe such a thing?

But in the meantime, they're the ones keeping order, and without getting through or past them, you can't prove your innocence, so you must either kill or avoid them, and killing them means that they struggle to maintain order during plaguetime, so of course bad things are a result.

Funny thing about this, pretty much everyone in Daud's campaigns are bad people, yet killing them gives you high chaos, even the witches which makes no goddamn sense. I guess in Daud's story it makes more sense symbolically to spare thugs and killers rather than giving them what they deserve, all things considered.

Or maybe removing the main people in power produces a power vacuum that leads to even worse things down the road. There's a reason it's called "chaos".

Killing all the brigmore witches wouldn't lead to more chaos, it would probably lead to the opposite.

The chaos thing was more about creating corpses for the rats to devour, resulting in the plague worsening.

>>
>>341606452
Fair point, but that can't be all of it, shadow kill doesn't reduce chaos gained from killing people.

Emily can reject the Outsider and get no powers. Or get an entirely different set of powers. Corvo's powers are the same.

For ultra hard mode you can work against both criminal organuzations instead of siding against one and with the other, reject the powers, AND play a no-kill run.

Really I think there are a lot of ways they could have improved chaos, which I'm sure they would have done if they had the time. Killing rats, using shadow kill, killing weepers, etc for lowering chaos, and different levels of chaos gained on kill depending on faction and rank within the faction e.g. killing high level guards gives you a lot of chaos where killing low level thugs gives you next to none.

Because I'm upset that they chickened out and just went for a female character instead of a strong colored womyn.
But actually, because I didn't really like Emily in the first game; she was tolerable mainly because she was an item the plot revolved around, not really a character. If they wanted a female character with magical powers they should have used Billie Lurk from the knife of dunbwall DLC.

That's a bit weird for the whale since they have confirmed that killing animals don't raise chaos in the main game, now whales are big but still.

Granny's second mission though, even though it grants a rune, you infect with the plague something like 5 dozens of people, so it's normal that it raises chaos, did it the first time because I thought only the gangers would get the poisoned elixir, never did it after looking at the note on the desk though...

>>
>>341616398
>That's a bit weird for the whale since they have confirmed that killing animals don't raise chaos in the main game, now whales are big but still.
It has more to do with the fact that harvesting whales while they are still alive yields a lot more oil and, given the situation Dunwall is in, whale oil is very valueable and limited.
>>
Serious question, what the fuck is The Outsider's agenda?

The Void is ultimate power. He was a child in their universe version of the Roman Empire who was sacrificed to gain power from it. Instead, he became the near omnipotent one and he killed his killers.

He's spent the rest of existence just being bored and waiting for the end of all things. He gives unique people powers for shits and giggles, and takes it away when they bore him.

He's nihilistic because he sees all the terrible shit people do, but not evil or good himself. He just gives powers and watches what people do with them. He himself is actually outside of time.

Daud became predictable, a stereotype.

While I enjoyed Dishonored, one thing I didn't like about 1 was that the base game was a bit shorter than I expected. 9 missions simply was not enough, and made the game feel incomplete to me.

Same thing, though since it had decent replay value, you could easily play it twice in a row.
With the DLCs, you have actually 15 missions, and two takes on the story, so you could consider that it's the whole experience...

But yeah, I certainly hope they'll go for a longer game this time. Plus the two last missions of the base game and the first one were fairly short and straightforward.
>>
>>341604938
You have to slaughter almost every NPC you come across to get High Chaos, including civilians, guards and the target. Even if you complete each mission by killing your target and the guards surrounding him you'll get the good ending. To get the bad ending you pretty much have to kill every hostile enemy in the entire level.

This has probably already been answered, but I'm too lazy to read the thread. Is there a reason Emily has powers too? Outsider gives people powers because he is killing time until the world ends, and he wants to see what would happen since he's bored. He gave Daud powers and he became an assassin for hire, and it bored him. Daud killed the Empress, starting Corvo down on his path, so he gave him powers because it seemed interesting. I'm sure he offers powers to Emily because it would be amusing to see how they help her regain her empire.

>>
>>341627081
Yes. It was stated pre-release, so they were almost definitely just basing it on a single playthrough.
>>341626936
>Disgaea games
>Gravity Rush
>Persona games
>Souls games
>Company of Heroes games, although I admittedly took my sweet fucking time
>GTA V
Maybe not all 60 hours exactly on just campaign but much, much more than a single day.

Because you cannot make AAA game in 2016 with white male protag.

>comparing a game to games from different genres
All your games are shit, you can put thousands of hours into a single playthrough in MMOs.
>>
>>341627589
Are JRPGS suddenly disqualified from having storylines and campaigns?
>RTS games are now JRPG and Open world
For GTA I played the missions before fucking around.

Also those are off the top of my head, I can go find more if you'd like :^)
>>341627771
>MMO
We're talking about games with a fucking linear story to play through.
>>
>>341627439
>takin over 28 hours on GTA V

Wow, you're shit.
>>
>>341627584
>Who /powerless/ here?
Me, also no reloading on fuck ups unless I die.
>>
Nah doom is
>>
>>341627884
Lots of MMOs have a linear story.
>>
>>341627884

>Are JRPGS suddenly disqualified from having storylines and campaigns?

Are they in the same genre as Dishonored?

>For GTA I played the missions before fucking around.

Oh yeah I'm sure you did. Should've only taken you like ~8 hours then right?

this guy is clearly a massive faggot. i don't believe for a second he could have beaten the game on first playthrough in 5 fucking hours. he either didn't and is straight out lying, or he just played it on easiest mode just killing everything on sight with zero exploration and zero attention paid to the story and immersion. kyfs pleb
>>
>>341627439
>Gravity Rush
Gravity Rush is a fucking 8 hour long game. If that takes you around 60 hours, then jesus christ.
>>
>>341627439
What goalposts? We're talking about Dishonored, it's a stealth game, I don't really care what your dumb ass calls it, and I also don't care about other games that aren't similar. Further, unless you were really fucking around like a retard, you did not get 60 hours out of your first run in Dark Souls.

Thank you for this information, your views are now dismissed as unimportant. Have a nice day.
>>
>>341628461

I can't even imagine taking 60 hours in something like Deus Ex, like holy shit.
>>
>>341589403
Only problem is lack of ng+
>>
>>341627439
>Says that Dishonored is only long if you're a casual

Are you for real, now?

And the game also directed by Harvey Smith who is a huge liberal feminist and anti-GGer.
>>
>>341633332

She was being an adorably naive little kid who doesn't even understand certain concepts of the adult world, that's what was meant by her saying that.

Plus it's one of the earliest clues that Corvo and Jessamine were together. How could Emily have overheard Corvo answer "no" to that question before unless he and Jessamine had been seriously discussing it at one point?
>>
>>341633425

>Harvey Smith who is a huge liberal feminist and anti-GGer

He's just French. Their political spectrum is so much further left than ours that so much as questioning Feminism makes you literally worse than Hitler in the eyes of most Parisians.
>>
>>341633332
Obviously she didn't know Corvo was her father, and she starts off as the very epitome of innocence. A major theme of the game is the loss of innocence or honor, and Emily optimizes that through her reaction to Corvo's actions.

My favorite quote in the first game is when The Outsider tells Corvo, "Funny how there's always just a little more innocence left to lose".
>>
>>341598226
It'll probably just be a small bonus like extra runes.
It's basically confirmed that the game assumes that Dishonored 1 was finished with a Pacifist run with both Corvo and Daud
>>
>>341633917
>being far left means you have to be a feminist
Leftism isn't inherently irrational. Anyone with sense can see that modern feminism is bad and that women are being empowered at the great expense of men in westerns society.
>>
>>341633425
>worked on Ultima, System Shock, Deus Ex, Cyber Mage and Dishonored 1.
They could have done a lot worse for the game director.

gay. Daud should be dead.

>>341634365
While I personally agree with that entirely - and even make a point of not mentioning on /v/ that I am a Classical Liberal who rejects contemporary first-world Feminism because everyone on here gets so triggered by that idea - my previous post was more concerned with easily explaining why the head of a French studio might be a bit more generous towards Feminism than /v/ would like.

>>341634457
Huh. I just looked it up and apparently he WAS actually born in Austin. I could've sworn that Arkane was a French company, though.

>Huh. I just looked it up and apparently he WAS actually born in Austin. I could've sworn that Arkane was a French company, though.
The guy moved on in France only a few years ago (iirc), and yes Arkane is french so...? The guy made pretty much all his career in Austin, if wikipedia can be trusted (it can't but welp).

What's funny is that americans are quick to say that feminism is a french thing, yet the french are quick to say feminism is an american thing.
>>
>>341635507

Whatever. I still say that Harvey is a cool guy, even if I might disagree with him on some political issues.

I can't think of any other developers besides Michael Kirkbridge who are so passionate about their games' lore and world-building that they spend their off-hours developing the lore in online posts.

Or any who are self-aware enough to do something like pic related.
>>
>>341635507
Even if it was an American thing European countries are quickly embracing it with open arms.
