Does anyone else feel the combat looks/feels... Stiff?

It looks like attacks take too long to come out of. Or too look to deliver. Also, that GTA V rag doll when hit thing needs to go.

Hopefully most of these things will be worked on before released.

no

It looks very clunky and the ragdolling looks and feels incredibly out of place.

>>341562120
I think it looks fine
Regarding the slow part, it might be because he is using a heavy attack, or maybe it's the stream?

I really don't know, but I think it looks okay

I don't see why rag doll is a problem though.
>>
>>341561510
Yeah but I imagine after about 10 hours out of the hundreds of hours of this game, it will start to get incredibly annoying.
>>
>>341561607
It's a step above previous Zelda game combat
>>
>>341562254
It didn't get annoying in GTA
>>
>>341562252
The combat looks like when you swing your sword or other heavy swords, you're vulnerable and standing still for about 1 to 2 seconds, which can be incredibly annoying.
>>
>>341561169
It looks the same if not a little smoother than any other recent console Zelda's combat.
>>
>>341561510
>Takes 2 and a half hearts of damage from your own bomb.

They did it didn't they, the finally went back to when you could actually die easily in Zelda.
>>
>>341562453
GTA is kind of a different kind of game.

Though I probably wouldn't care desu, the game still looks amazing and fun as hell.
>>
>>341562453
I thought it was kind of annoying how they threw away bicycles and other less common vehicles, most of the guns, those nice FAST cars with good driving mechanics, etc. in exchange for ragdoll physics and a pretentious story. Wasn't worth the tradeoff.
>>
>>341562254
so you want canned animations?

go away
>>
>>341562835
no I want it to be better.
>>
>>341562701
some enemies can hit for like 5 hearts
>>
>>341562701
The bomb is 1 1/2, he extra heart is from sliding off the cliff I believe.
>>
>>341562757
The story wasnt pretentious at all, it was just rushed and shitty.
>>
>>341561169
Was the "...stiff" necessary faggot? You're typing not talking. Unless you're moviebob.
>>
>>341562940

You got a suggestion then?

because you really only have 2 options
>>
Honestly I love ragdoll physics. They're almost always fun to watch.

>>341562701
I don't think the bomb actually does that much damage. Watching it closely, it seems like you take some damage when rolling down a hill after being hit which is pretty fucking cool.
>>
>>341562950
Is there like some leveling system being worked on? Or something like that? Because I imagine enemies aren't supposed to be THAT tough.
>>
>>341563023
I thought they tried way too hard on it and they clearly thought it was the next great "gangster" story. You can just tell, Rockstar thought this was on par with The Godfather or Scarface. I thought the stories of GTA 3, VC, and SA were enough.
>>
>>341563243
Probably just the hearts are upgradable like in other Zeldas. Armors do have stats now too so that'll mitigate damage. You can also cook to make food that gives you extra temporary hearts
>>
>>341563619
Oh, that's probably the best way to do it for a Zelda game.

They probably didn't want to add a leveling system because it's Zelda.
>>
>>341561169
>>341561607

The ragdoll is the results of the game focuses on physics in general for puzzle solving

It's what's making Zelda be about solving shit any way you want

It's because they're cute and dopey, not ugly and retarded.
>>
The combat and the ragdoll looked fine to me, but that's just my opinion. But the ragdoll I'm fine with mostly because seeing you're main character die in a way like that always motivates me to try and not die as often, especially in a light hearted game like Zelda. Or it will make me want to die more to see Link's naked corpse be dragged down a mountain
>>
>>341563797
I believe Chiko was playing at that time. The Asian lady with the cute accent.

>>341563883
They modified the SS Bokoblin to look a tad meaner. They're almost bat-like. Which lends credence to the leak. Because the leaker called it.
>>
>>341564260
Which leak?

There was a leak claiming the game would have a heavy combat focus inspired by Souls games, when combat is essentially the same as any other Zelda.

>>341576952
To be fair man, this is the ONLY game Nintendo has coming out that is worth any damn. It's also the first in a streak of mediocre Zelda games. This is why we're all hyped for it.

The last good game the WiiU got was Splatoon, over a year ago.

We don't have anything else, but at least the ONE good game we have looks amazing.
>>
>>341577226
Smash 4, Mario Maker, Xenoblade X, and Woolly World were all very good.
>>
>>341561169

>>
>>341577808
SS had the worst combat. I was dumbed down into Simon Says. The Combat in TP is hands down the best in the series, but the enemies are all pushovers so it never shines. WW and TP had the best combat, a combination of the two would be the best.

SS was tedious at best when it actually worked. TP and WW actually saw me having FUN during combat. Especially with how WW allowed for items to be easily integrated into fighting and you could seamlessly go from boomerang, to sword, to hookshot, etc...

Thank god BotW seems to take the same cues.
>>

>>341564671
Fuck. I hate healthbars on mobs. Can they at least take those away.
>>
>>341578508
Complex =/= deep

You had a fuckton of shit to choose from, but most of it was completely inconsequential. A lot of teammates, but most were boring humans, and it ultimately didn't matter who you chose, since party set up meant fuck all.

Lots of equipment and weapons, but it all came down to choosing the equipment that has the best stats. and suits the abilities you wanted to use.

I'll admit that the foot combat was good, better than XC in fact, though it also sucked that the party members were useless now. However, then mechas came in and totally shit on that.

The world was MASSIVE, but it was incredibly shallow. No neat secrets to discover, no hidden lore. or secret villages. No story behind anything. It was just a massive set piece with enemies scattered around. You run, you kill shit, you arrive to your arrow marking and place a new probe. Repeat again and again and again. There was NO reward for exploring. In a game about exploration, the entire story was segmented into chapters. So it didn't matter if you found part of the Lifehold early on, it meant fuck ALL till the story dictated you go there. Your interaction with the environment was also lame as fuck. You simply pressed A, and got some text. That's it. You couldn't really DO anything anywhere. Which is a problem the first XC also suffers from as well.

Not only that, but the immersive factor of "exploring an alien planet" was ruined by its atmosphere, especially when the multiplayer component littered the planet with avatars of other players everywhere. How am I exploring new land if there's an outpost and a french dude waving at me right fucking there?

Not only that, but discovery meant fuck all. If I see an new alien or a new location that looks interesting, I can't learn ANYTHING about it. The environment doesn't speak to me, there's not story being told, it just looks pretty.

At the very least a scan visor like in Metroid woulda been good.
>>
>>341579149

Again, Massive world, but super shallow, and it's always better to be deep than wide.

XCX gets a 3/10 from me. First game was MILES better.
>>
>>341562757

Rod breaks, and easily. Apparently, old Zelda items will be plentiful, but have very low durability. Maybe you'll get the relics of old late in the game, that don't break. Like the Hylian shield, Master Sword, Hero's bow, etc.

What the fuck am I reading? There's a lot of lore. Go read all the entries on the enemies and those random random pick ups you find, and do your side quests especially the ones involving alien species. You also get rewarded consistently for exploring. Exploring and putting probes directly gets you money, and you get loot from scattered fauna, wreckage, and artifacts.

Bro, you need to play more Open World games if you believe any of that was properly executed.

Hell, just compare it to the last game, where the joy of exploration was IN the exploration, and the discovery of the little things. XCX, rather than move forward, seems like it took a step backward by removing the landmarks and replacing them with probe sites, and no longer making you fully fill up the map by walking.

The game is just fundamentally designed very poorly. The joy of exploration SHOULD be in the exploration itself. In that sense of wonderment and discovery. Not because you have loot box number 1649 over here and it gives you a new tanktop that slightly boosts your stats and makes your waifu's cleavage stick out. Or because you see a probe node marked on your map and you're heading to it to gain more resources.

It's an alien planet, you should make me wanna explore.

Compare that to the last game, where exploration was a blank as fuck empty map, and a bunch of shit around you. You merely look around, and you see interesting stuff that makes you wanna discover. You arrive, and are rewarded with exp and a "Landmark Discovered" getting to know a bit about it. Then you find NPCs which breathe a bit more life into the world.

XCX had none of that because it focused too much on the humans, and their struggle for survival, and rather than expand the exploration elements established by XC by giving us secrets and hidden records ala Metroid Prime, it took a step back and streamlined the exploration. Sure, the world looked pretty, but it had no life. All the interesting shit I saw felt more like a Disney attraction meant for me to oogle at, and a living, breathing part of the world.

But I also suspect that enemies in areas radially futher than the starting area will also be a lot stronger and a lot more difficult to compensate. Likewise, it's also likely that in game events by completing dungeons and such will raise the overall strength of all the enemies in game.

Or so I hope. But that's what the first Zelda did, so this one might too. Also, here's to hoping they add in a Master Quest a la OoT and LoZ.

Bonus points if it gives you the option to play as a different character, like say... Zelda, and she has different abilities available than Link.

A lot of the little physics stuff in the game look fun, but also pretty wonky. Everything looks greased up with butter in motion and the ground doesn't seem to do anything to really help slow you down, but then Link just stops flat for no reason.

There's also the webm that shows Link cutting down a tree and just the smallest tap causes it to start slipping and sliding because it has zero grip on the dirt and grass it fell onto.

Anything that just slides around like nothing on rough surfaces like this just looks off-putting and can easily get annoying since they're not hitting the effect they're trying to portray.

>>
>>341584389
>But I also suspect that enemies in areas radially futher than the starting area will also be a lot stronger and a lot more difficult to compensate.

That's always the theory, but it never actually works out like that because people who don't find all of the sidequests and upgrades and so forth still have to be able to clear the game. Reverse difficulty curves happen in systems like this 99% of the time, and what we've seen here definitely has the hallmarks of it. Early game with three hearts you'll die in a single hit for going off the beaten path, but when you start getting more combat options and the world starts opening up, it'll do so exponentially.

>>341584518
>Hero Mode: No armor at all, and only using the weakest weapons available.
It sure will feel truly heroic spending half an hour hitting every end-game enemy 5000 times for one damage a hit.

It sounds good on paper, but this simply doesn't work for games with heavy numerically scaled stats. It was playable in previous games because of how "chunky" upgrades were, so the weakest sword was still only a few times weaker than the strongest, but with a full RPG stat system it falls apart as a serious approach to difficulty scaling for anything other than gimmick runs to put on Youtube. It's also lame to have to restrict yourself to be challenged, rather than the game pushing you to find every edge you possibly can or face defeat.
>>
>>341585748
Anyone who can't see the obvious inspiration from the first game is fucking blind.
>>
>>341586009
>but with a full RPG stat system it falls apart as a serious approach

This is from the same company that made the Paper Mario series, which is kind of known for keeping reasonably low stats values through out the entirety of the game.
Like, single digit damage is still useful at the end of the game.
>>
>>341586009
Who cares if its lame when it's necessary? Zelda games haven't been genuinely difficult, in terms of combat, since AoL.

Which everyone hates because they are pussy fagets.
>>
>>341585959
it's wrong though. Journos rewrote "objective" with "defeat ganon", but the turh is the tuto area alone MUST be completed to get the glider before you can even leave it. The story is clearly linear and must be done step by step. or "objective by objective" like they said themselves. Like Oblivion
>>
>>341580070
Skyward swords link is a juggernaut though. Athletic as fuck, can run up walls, slice as quick as Raiden in blade mode and shoot energy chakrams out of his sword.
>>
>>341561169
Never been a Zelda fan really, but I like how this new one seems to be turning out. Looks really cool.
Also yes it looks stiff. That's like, a trademark of 3D Zelda games for whatever reason though. I don't really mind it, and a certain stiffness has been always present so it's not unexpected.
>>
>>341586101
As long as I don't have to bomb random, completely normal-looking walls and floors, I'm gold.
>>
>>341586295
Do you even understand the conversation? TP's skills with a sword were brought up because they are hoping we learn some combat techniques in this game. It wasn't a "which Link is strongest" argument.
For being able to move the sword freely in SS, you really could just cut in directions. TP had the most combat techniques, even if it barely used them.
>>
>>341586404
We saw at least one bombable wall, and it seemed pretty obviously marked.
>>
>>341584518
This is a pretty boring way of doing it. Ive run my fair share of low heart, no shields run i previous Zeldas, but I always disliked how it takes out some exploration from the game. Finishing the game with a pitchfork and dressed in a potato sack might be hard, but it doesnt sound rewarding for a first playthrough. I hope they instead just include a hard mode from the start.
>>
>>341584945
You could actually jump in TP and Sprint in SS. Wasn't rolling in SS?
>>
>>341586507

>>
>>341586691
>You could actually jump in TP

No you couldn't.
>>
>>341586404
i recall them talking about this and saying multiple times that bomb-able things look natural but also communicate very easily that they're destructible.
>>
>>341586748
With you sword sheathed if you hold L and flick forward and tap A at the same time he did a little jump. It wasn't really useful for anything but he did it.
>>
>>341586204
The buried Guardians in the first area had 500+ health, and there were random bokos with 72. If this is just the first few percent of the map, unless there's going to be a huge amount of redundant non-upgrade loot to find, I wouldn't expect anything like Paper Mario. Everything I saw seems like a polished but otherwise very direct emulation of the usual open-world fantasy RPG systems.

>>341586257
Who cares about deliberately avoiding 95% of the content? Me, to start with. Would Dark Souls have been as fun if, rather than desperately searching for better equipment to even the odds in a boss fight or get revenge on that fucking black knight and praying to make it to the next bonfire so you'd be able to upgrade and not lose your hoard of souls, it was the same level of difficulty, but you had to deliberately ignore all of those systems to get it? It kills a huge amount of the gameplay and choices, and fundamentally just is not a working replacement for more difficulty.
>>
>>341586691
Yeah, you could roll in Skyward Shota
>>341587072
That was Straight Sword, not Toilet Princess. If you did that in Twilight Paper, Link just rolled.
>>
looks bad
>>
>>341561510
Fuck, that looks kinda nice.
>>
>>341587135
We might be talking about two different things.

Zelda games arent hard. If that's what your want you will never be happy. Challenge runs make the game slightly harder for people who have already played it normally.

I get your complaint, I just don't think it's relevant here because Zelda hasn't been challenging in that way for almost 30 years.
>>
>>341585850
>There's also the webm that shows Link cutting down a tree and just the smallest tap causes it to start slipping and sliding because it has zero grip on the dirt and grass it fell onto.
I think that one was because the other end of the tree was barely on the ledge of that cliff. Not sure that makes it any better for you, but yeah. I don't recall it rolling when they chopped it down in a better place.
>>
>>341581458
They probably coded it to force it to be less random than full on ragdolls usually are, like by making you fall at a certain rate down the cliff but use the physics to animate Link's model.
>>
>>341587496
Even for a second playthrough, the heavy scaling seems likely to make it more tedious than anything, in a way that it wasn't in prior games. There's a skill ceiling to everything.

It's like that Grief Syndrome Madoka fangame where the idea is to reach as high a loop as possible, but once you hit the point where everything is a one-shot death and every mook needs a ten minute perfect infinite combo to kill, it's just tedious.
>>
I saw that we can launch our weapon on ennemis.
I saw that if the ennemis lost his weapon, he take the weapon from the ground that is the most closest.

What if we launch our Mastersword on the ground when a Bokoblins have lost his weapon. Do you think he gonna take the Mastersword to fight us ? If yes, what happen if we run away after he takes the Mastersword,.. It could be funny to try.
