I'm still mad.
>>
>>341544313
it is a 20 year old franchise with 7 mainline entries

anyone who didn't already have the type chart memorized would just look one up anyways, may as well have it in game
>>
not everyone is autistic enough to memorize all the type combinations.

and all it does it eliminate the need to look it up on google.
>>
finally
>>
so popplio is going to be water/fairy?
>>
Pokemon was already a game made explicitly for children
Be thankful they didn't include an auto-battle button that automatically picks super effective moves for you in battles
>>
>>341544313
Why?

Why would you get mad at this?
>>
RIP BRONZONG
>>

Do you hate yourself?

It's a game aimed at kids, pokemon isn't a game for tactical gamers, idk why people getting riled up that they're catering to their lowest common demoninator
>>
>>341544313

it also only shows you that after that pokemon is in your pokedex
>>
>>341544845
Pokemon fans are well known for having a lot of autistic members on their groups
>>
haha, really? there's at least an option to remove it, right?
>>
It only happens after multiple encounters of a Pokemon. They already fought litten so they know the typing. They didn't see pichu so it didn't show anything.

Okay, sure, but even then, even if it was, wouldn't it be a GOOD thing that you now know the best course of action?

Do you get mad at the screen showing the outcome of battle in Fire Emblem too?

>>
>>341544805
You know what I find funny about this? The (Elite 4) AI is entirely based around the concept that the player is always going to pick the Super Effective move. It's already that way.

I remember fighting some thing that was weak to Ice. And I had a Water Pokemon out. Obviously I had Ice Beam, and the Elite 4 opponent just switches out to some asshole who both resisted Water and Ice Beam.

Now it's obvious that the AI is fucking brilliant to the player. The player is going to go, "HOLY SHIT SO SMART" whereas before there was chance they would miss catching it, mistaking it as a lucky switch.
>>
Don't bother OP, the casuals here are all for it.

It's okay when Nintendo does it!
>>
why are you people even on a video game based image board a game getting dumbed down isn't a problem?
>>
>>341544624
I could imagine you playing a SMT game and then complaining that you don't understand it because it doesn't spoonfeed you information.
>>
>>341545465
Bronzong has Heatproof and Levitate as abilities, each negating one of its weaknesses. If this is in actual player on player battles and tells you what he's weak to, it's a real kick in the dick.
>>
>>341544976
>it's literally a benzene molecule
How come I only just noticed this
>>
>>341545271
Not really
I see why some people might be upset, there was already precious little depth to the combat system in Pokemon, and removing the knowledge requirement just makes an easy game even easier
That said, it's also a game made for children that basically shrugs it's shoulders and says "Yeah I guess people older than 12 can play this seriously if they want to", so I don't think it's that big a deal
>>
>>341545182
tried to look up what you mean, but didn't find anything

what's the deal with bronzong, did it change types or something?
>>
>>341545465
it has both Heatproof and Levitate, useful for multiplayer when your opponent don't know which one you have

to be honest, randomly guessing what type a pokemon is the first time you encounter it really isn't that fun.

>>
>>341546128
You still have to do that. This just remembers what's what. There's literally no reason to care
>>
>>341544845
Serious answer.

Previously the game wouldn't tell you which attacks were going to be effective or not, you have to learn by trying and remembering them the hard way.

>>341545271
Some people consider stuff like that 'handholding', arguing that stuff like the exact odds to hit robs something from the game.

It's really personal preference though. It's like comparing RTSs that have fog of war to ones that don't.
>>
>people complaining about easy mode in a game where only type match ups matter anyways

if competitive wants to worry about IVs and all that stuff, let em, but you can get through the whole of any pokemon game with nothing but attack moves. Considering there are over 600 of these things now and they change up the match-up advantages almost every gen I see no issue here.
>>
>>341546128
honestly the only pokemon that still trips me up sometimes is that purple scorpion thing, it's really easy to tell what they are 99% of the time. i don't know why people are making a big deal out of this

>>

Not that guy, but SMT doesn't have nearly as many type matchups as Pokemon.

Basic elements, and different strike damages. Mudo and Hama. Megido. Enemies aren't necessarily weak to what they appear to be.

Holy shit, /v/ is now defending the casualization of a video game.

How did this happen? Is the video game industry truly that far gone that asking players to remember things and/or think things through on their own is now too "autistic" for your regular gamer?

The meta expects you to know the type chart already.

>>
>>341544313
For those of us playing since gen1, learning ~100 or so new Pokemon's types every few years was never a big deal.
But for young kids just getting into the series, they're now diving into a sea of 700+ Pokemon. This shit will help them learn their types and weaknesses.
I'm really not seeing why this is a problem.
>>
>>341547997
It's fucking Pokemon you autistic nigger, it is the casual game par excellence.

Secondly, memorizing a type matchup chart isn't 'hardcore', it's not like without these the average player was going to try and learn things as they went along, either you've been playing the series since the beginning and at this point you know, or you're going to look it up on the internet because you're semi new / casual. And if you're a competitive player this has no impact at all on the meta.

Of all the fucking shit in video games that people could get mad about and you people pick the most harmless bullshit, jesus christ.
>>
I'm fine with this. Mostly because I can't be assed to learn any of the chart changes that came with Fairy.

>>
>>341548806
>or you're going to look it up on the internet because you're semi new / casual
Or you could, you know, play the game. When you encounter a pokemon for the first time you can use some trial an error to discern what type it is, say a Charizard using Wing Attack and Flamethrower. If they are both Super Effective you can make a guess saying that it's a grass type. If your fight with the pokemon ends and you're still not sure you can go into the pokedex and check on the typing. This isn't a game that's very challenging or has to be optimized to play, so you using a not very effective attack over the course of a battle is fine because you probably still have a chance to win, and the next time you encounter that pokemon or typing you'll know what to do, and it's not coming from the game spelling it out for you, it's knowledge you learned over the course of your adventure.
>>
>>341547717
>>341547936
>>341548451
Ha.

But yeah when the game was created that was how it was done. Kids would feel bright trying to learn it all, write it down in notes or fork out for guides.

I suppose it is kind of pointless now that you can google it a second. But you could also just watching twitch stream too and not play it too I guess.

Personally I don't believe not telling you the type effect really add anything to the game so I'm not bothered by it.

>You cannot tell me you haven't by mistake forgot type match-ups and made an attack that has completely fucked up the match at least once

That's the argument for not showing it. Even the best lineup can be undone by a simple act of carelessness.

But it depends how you look at it. Some seed is having the bumpers off and bowling other see it declaring check in chess,(which isn't the same thing as checkmate)
>>
I would only be mad if it sees through abilities. Like it says "not effective" on Bronzongs with Levitate
>>
>>341554593
This makes it so people no longer have to memorize the chart.

This boils the game down to "push the button that the game tells me to"

If you seriously can not tell how damaging that is, not just to Pokemon, but gaming as a whole then I dunno what to tell you.

The argument isn't that this makes Pokemon easier. The argument that this is a trend that teaches gamers that games that require no thought of your own is the best way to "play"

And then when you do consider that this is a game for children and you realize that these games are now training these young gamers to rely more on this type of hand holding than their own brains makes it all the worse.

More to the point, I'm worried about Abilities and items outright screwing with the effectiveness chart. Someone in the chat already brought up Bronzong, but I've got some real-life experience with this.

My niece was playing Pokémon White and was misled by NPCs into thinking that Ground-types were the best type to bring against Nimbasa City's Elesa.

Guess what? Two out of three of her Pokémon were pic-related, part-Flying. She still won, but it took a retry and a handful of anti-paralytics.

First of all, it's only there AFTER you encounter them, first encounters won't have them

Second, we don't know if this counts abilities, for all we know, it could still say that ground and fire moves would be super effective against a bronzong without it's abilities being accounted for

Third, and most importantly, keep in mind that online has limitations and might not have them. Remember Pokemon Amie and massive shitposting about how it raises your critical hit ratio because they love you? They turned that shit off during online and they could do it for this too.

Anon... This is Pokemon. It was always a casual game. From day one it was a piss easy game meant to be played in short bursts and made for a wide audience. If you play Pokemon and expect a hardcore experience for hardcore gamers such as yourself, you're going to be disappointed.

People have been looking at type charts for ever. The addition to game is just convinience, not casualization. And the main use of it is to remember the less obvious type combinations like Poison being weak to Ground, Dark/Psychic counter being Bug or Rock being weak to Fighting.

I feel like they're making the Pokemon games have more and more convenience to them (if that makes sense) in every new mainline entry, but they're forgetting to up the difficulty.

The original Pokemon games were fucked as far as mechanics went (the special stat, TMs not being reusable) and they're just spending development time basically making sure that clunky shit is gone. This is a bit different, but it certainly makes the games easier to play.

Normals have always universally been cutesy, delicate little fluffballs, in fact so much that a huge number of them got moved over to the fairy type. It wasn't a great leap of logic to understand that they can get their ass beat by ATATATATATATA.

It's the principle that matters.

Like when they gave you an EXP share that automatically turned to 'on', or straight up handed you a legendary pokemon after the 5th gym.
Sure you can turn it off, and put the legendary in the PC, but it's obnoxious all the same. The game assumes that you're a retarded hopeless idiot.

We are creating a generation of babied morons who won't be able to handle adult videogames when they inherit them as the prime demographic in 8 years. You all are ruining videogames with your contrarianism or brand loyalty or whatever stupid reason you have for defending this nonsense. Because the booklet doesn't tell you the typing of each and every Pokemon you encounter.
>>

Platinum was good for fire types. D/P was when it was god damn ridiculous with just Infernape and Rapidash.

easily the best new feature desu

Neither does this new function.

Well, I wasn't using any regardless, so.
Platinum is the best in series, also

Jesus christ, the casualization is real. It's not fair that people without access to the internet can be on the same playing field as me.

>Luvdisc doesn't evolve into this thing
Still the biggest mind fuck in Pokemon.
>>
>>341581516

The same few pokemon always show up throughout every game though
>>
>>341544313
i didnt play pokemon in years and when i played x/y all i did was look at a fucking chart, lol. not like it matters anyway, regardless of what damage types you use, you still steamroll everything in the fucking game because its a game made for literal toddlers. this does nothing but save time
>>
>>341581717
>Platinum is the best in series
What a strange way to spell Emerald
>>
>>341581631
No they didn't.

They don't list all Pokemon with the typings in the booklets.
>>

Both misspelled White 2
>>
>>341581810

Why are you playing a game for fucking literal toddlers you fag retard
>>
>>341544313
Difficulty in a game should not come from something so trite and mindless as rote memorization in the first place. If it does, you have some serious design flaws.
>>

The physical/special split called. Wanted to know why you prefer when the mechanics didn't make any sense.

BW/B2W2 are only really good as a set, but the region was a gelatinous shit compared to Sinnoh and the story was a way lamer too.
But if it's not Platinum then it's definitely Gen5 as a whole.
>>
>>341581934
Typing has appeared on pokemon you see in battles since the combo game of gen 2 and gen 3 onwards. And just like in this instance, the "its super effective" only appears if you have the pokemon in your pokedex

good question, why are you? and why are you getting so indignant over the truth? the games are designed to be accessible and finishable for children, not that that's a bad thing, but it doesnt really make for a compelling or challenging single player experience so i stopped playing it myself once the nostalgia goggles wore off
>>
>>341582356
Are you fucking joking? I'm not even him but Platinum is without a doubt the most challenging game, more so than fucking Emerald.
>>
>>341582356

So no game outside Platinum?
>>
>>341580472
This is why pokefags are mad. They realize their game is shallow as fuck when you actually understand what's going in. If you want to challenge a child don't give them pokemon in the first place.

Popplio is very likely going to be water/fairy, edgelord doesn't fit that.

I guess I was lucky then. Against the ghost lady i had multiple pokemon with bite and I had a good electric one+Torterra for wake

Different leaks. The one he's on about make Popplio out to be water/fairy
>>
>>341544313
How can you possibly be mad about this?

You act as if knowing the typing of every Pokemon is some kind of "skill". Don't make me fucking laugh. People who don't know would just google it or have the info in a booklet, printed out or saved elsewhere.

This is nothing but a quality of life improvement that changes literally nothing about the game's "difficulty" or """""skill"""""

Fucking retard

Go watch the footage again after you've calmed down, it only works against Pokemon you've already faced before. But I'm more than certain there are people here that are angry they're dropping the Imperial system and are still mad about infinite use TMs so whatever.

>People are somehow legitimately mad at this

Sounds like Dark Souls has some serious design flaws.
>>
>>341586795
Are you a retard or just underage? Double typing was in since gen 1
>>
>>341586795
Are you fucking retarded? How does it add anything? If anything, it takes away from the gameplay. It just holds your hand through a pretty big part of the gameplay.
>>
And why should you be?

Instead of having to try and remember what type you're battling
Instead of trying to remember what beats out what

(Which are both extremely easy pieces of information to obtain) you now have the convenience of seeing it on screen.

You're just a bitter cunt who for some reason wants to justify the inconveniences of a casual game just to make it appear less casual.

Even SMT was doing this and that game has a lot more substance/depth than pokemon, didn't take anything away from it though.
>>
>>341544624
>huh, a fire type, I wonder what are his weakness?

you are literally like Satoshi/Ash of retarded levels

What I don't get is, part of the game is discovering and learning about pokemon then using said knowledge in battle.
This is just giving the solution away, completely eliminating the need to play

But whatever, you shitlords defended Pokebank and black protags.

>>341588215
not to mention serebii was up in 2001 i believe? and everyone was using that (still are).

>>
>>341588946
>game is about discovering and learning
>lower screen (which is the pokedex) shows Pokemon types and weaknesses after you have encountered/caught them
>somehow these two things contradict each other
Maybe you're just trying really hard to be upset by literally nothing.
Like, I get the whole "if you spoonfeed these idiots they'll never learn to do anything for themselves" thing, but I also get the "these idiots demand everything be spoonfed to them because they're idiots and they won't buy our shit unless we pander to them" thing and I feel the second is more logical, financially.
And it's literally a non-intrusive feature that won't change anything about your experience anyway.
>>
>>341544313
this only shows when the other pokemon is actully in your pokedex.

This doesnt show up when you first battle a pokemon you nards
>>
>>341589715
>you're just upset
You're literally not even quoting me, completely eliminating any reason you have for replying to me. If you just want to talk to yourself, don't bring me into it
>>
I'm glad the Pokedex is actually being useful for once. Seems ridiculous that it's supposed to be the most advanced Pokemon encyclopedia in existence, and yet almost nothing of any meaning beyond fluff is in it.

Actually, why not expand that? Make information you actually care about like moves and evolution methods available in-game from the Pokedex rather than having ten tabs open on your phone.

Not only did I quote you, I also properly responded to your entire post.
Like, if you don't know how to read that's fine, but there's no need to digress about it to strangers on the internet.
Or maybe you've just developed some sort wacky pseud-dyslexia from the traumatic experience you've encountered having been shown a new minor thing in a children's game that barely changes anything.
>>
>>341590356
>Anythingatall used Earthquake!

You're taking something I've said, out of context, misinterpreting it, jumping to a wrong conclusion, then responding to that conclusion with all manner of fallacies I refuse to list since it's not my job to teach you how to talk to your elders
>>
>>341586795
/v/ legimately has a group of people who think that difficulty comes from a high floor rather than a high ceiling

To them, memorizing 18*18 grid is difficulty/challenge.
>>
>>341590698
>elders
Yeah, I'm sure you're 467 years old. Let me spell it out for you one more time, since you're clearly the sort of spoonfeeding dependent stupid idiot that this new feature is aimed at.
>the feature
uses the lower/pokedex screen to display information about types that the player character [programmes into the device as is his task when given the pokedex].
>you
>What I don't get is, part of the game is discovering and learning about pokemon then using said knowledge in battle
Literally complaining about a feature that actually displays the character using his/her information collected when battling Pokemon in subsequent battles with the same Pokemon.

You're literally contradicting yourself and if you still don't understand that then maybe you need to forget Pokemon altogther and invest in some "learn to speak English" or "Learn to not be an idiot" V-Tech shit or something.
Like, jeez.
>>
>>341591379

>>
>>341591851
>doesn't know what fallacy means

Nah, just because you lack reading comprehension then jump to conclusions doesn't mean I'm at fault
